Marcos wants PWDs to have safe access to transportation
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to ensure that persons with disabilities have safe access to public transport.
''Ang instruction nga ng Pangulo tulad ng nasabi ko kanina, siguraduhin na may safe na public transport at accessible na public transport para sa ating mga kababayan na may kapansanan,'' DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said in a Palace press briefing.
(The President gave an instruction for the DSWD to ensure safe and accessible public transport for PWDs.)
Gatchalian earlier inspected three electric buses intended for persons with disabilities at the DSWD Central Office.
The provision of electric vehicles is under the DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program's (SLP) Persons with Disabilities – Electric Transportation Service (PWD-ETS) Project.
The PWD-ETS is a pilot project that aims to provide livelihood grants to persons with disabilities in SLPAs to purchase electric vehicles that are disability-friendly.
The said project will enable the beneficiaries to earn income while helping other persons with disabilities to safely access modes of transportation. Each SLPA is composed of 115 members who are all persons with disabilities from 10 local government units in Metro Manila.
Gatchalian said the DSWD would work with the Department of Transportation to scale up this measure.
''The goal talaga is palawakin, palawigin, paramihin not just in Metro Manila but also in the other Metro areas para mas magkaroon ng accessible at safe na space para sa ating mga people with disability,'' he said.
(The goal is to widen and extend this not just in Metro Manila but also in the other metro areas to provide accessible and safe space for PWDs.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Marcos: Gov't monitoring 'price gouging' of goods
CAPAS CITY — President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Wednesday the government is monitoring "price gouging" in the consumer market. Marcos made the statement as he noticed that the prices of some goods have already increased. "Iyon lamang binabantayan natin ngayon 'yung price gouging. Dahil ang dami ko nang nakita nagtataas ng presyo, hindi naman tumaas ang presyo ng langis. So, iyon ang babantayan natin ngayon. That's what we are going to watch," Marcos told reporters. (We're monitoring the price gouging. Because I've seen a lot of price hikes even though fuel prices have not increased. So that's what we will monitor right now. That's what we are going to watch.) Asked if subsidies for drivers and other sectors would continue, Marcos said if the price has not changed, it would be "business as usual." "Kung hindi nagbago 'yung presyo, then we do the same like before. Ang sinasabi namin hindi ayuda, subsidy 'pag tumaas ang presyo," Marcos said. (If the price has not changed, then we do the same like before. We're saying subsidy if the price has not increased.) "Eh kung hindi tumaas ang presyo ng langis, then there is no need for that. We can proceed–, we can do business as usual," he added. (If the price has not increased, then there is no need for that. We can proceed–, we can do business as usual.) Petroleum companies are implementing a big-time price hike in fuel products this week on a staggered basis as the Philippines reels from the effects of the Israel-Iran conflict. In the wake of the development, a group of supermarket owners has said the prices of manufactured items such as canned goods, processed foods, and drinks would depend on the decision of management. Earlier, Department of Energy officer-in-charge Sharon Garin said that as of June 24, the average price of crude oil stood at about $69 per barrel. This came after United States President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was already in place. Trump asked both sides not to violate it. Due to this announcement, Garin said the government's fuel subsidy program for the public transport and agriculture sectors might not be activated. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Marcos tasks agencies to ensure safe, orderly return of Pinoys from Iran, Israel
As tension escalates in the Middle East, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday tasked government offices to take the necessary steps to ensure the safe and orderly return of Filipino workers who wish to avail themselves of voluntary repatriation. In a statement, Marcos said the government is already processing over 200 requests for repatriation and ''we are moving quickly to bring them home while others have opted to remain at work.'' ''I urge our fellow Filipinos to coordinate with our embassies in Tel Aviv and in Tehran. Please follow their guidance, inform them of your situation, and do not hesitate to ask for assistance,'' Marcos said. ''Your government continues to act and is ready to serve to protect your safety and well-being. Nothing is more important than the safety of every Filipino,'' he added. Amid the ongoing hostilities, the Philippine government has raised crisis alert level 3 in Israel and Iran, urging Filipinos in the area to avail of voluntary repatriation. Marcos said Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac is in Amman, Jordan, and is scheduled to receive the first batch of 26 repatriates from Israel at the King Hussein Crossing. In Israel, Marcos said the government has already provided food packs and financial help to Filipinos. ''Many are staying in our migrant workers' office hostel with more space ready should it be needed,'' Marcos said. The President added: ''We continue to monitor our OFW caregiver who remains in hospital— stable but still on oxygen support and a ventilator. We are in touch with her family and are making sure she gets the care that she needs.'' In Iran, Marcos said the embassy is preparing for the repatriation of an initial batch of eight Filipinos in the coming days. ''Upon arrival in the Philippines, they will receive immediate support from the government, including P150,000 in immediate assistance, some accommodation, transport and livelihood support with training vouchers to help them recover and to start again,'' he said. Marcos said the government would help with skills training, job matching, startup capital, and support to begin a small business or find new opportunities. The Philippines has called for de-escalation of tensions and called on concerned parties to pursue diplomacy after the United States struck Iran's nuclear sites over the weekend. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the country, which has a huge presence of workers in the Middle East, is "greatly concerned" over the developments in the region "in these last few hours."—LDF, GMA Integrated News
