Dujonna Gift is Snow White's secret weapon

Yahoo21-03-2025
When Dujonna Gift went to her first open audition, aged 18, after dropping out of performing arts school, little did the south-London native know it would lead to her big break in the West End's Motown: The Musical. Since then, she's starred in Hamilton and Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), but now, the actor is swapping the stage for the big screen in Disney's highly anticipated Snow White. Here, Gift, now 27, shares what it's like working with Rachel Zegler, making friends with Zendaya, and her future goals.
A close friend of mine was a choreographer for the film and encouraged me to audition. Initially, I didn't even know it was for Snow White. My dad had recently passed away, so it was my first Christmas without him. I remember lying in bed thinking 'life sucks' and holding back tears when my agent called to tell me I'd got the role.
We first met in rehearsals and she was dressed like an old maiden. There was a meme at the time that began with, 'Hey, maid,' and she responded with the second part immediately. We clicked! We leaned on each other a lot as she was away from home, so I adopted her into my family and we explored London together. I'm grateful for our friendship. She's a special human.
The role that will always be closest to my heart is Robin in Two Strangers. You don't often get to see women of colour playing love interests. I didn't initially see them casting someone like me, but that role changed my life and I'll always be grateful.
The Color Purple. Every time I listen to it, I get goosebumps.
When Zendaya came to watch Two Strangers. It made me realise that the people you admire could be privy to what you do. We spoke about the [Sag-Aftra] actor strikes and her living in London, and she was super complimentary of the show. It was a cool moment.
Every actor has their hustle. When I'm not acting, I design costumes for Notting Hill Carnival and I take headshots for other actors. When I'm not working, I'm out of the country. I love travelling, and I go back to the Caribbean as often as I can. I also binge-watch Real Housewives.
Strong, multi-faceted and exuberant. I hate being called strong, but I'm that friend who people will come to [when they're] in need.
I would love to play Princess Tiana in The Princess And The Frog. Or, if they remade The Cheetah Girls, then I would want to be involved in any capacity.
When my brother had a daughter, I realised that I can't look at her one day and say, 'I gave up.' I tell myself that I am good enough despite what this country or industry tells me. No one can want it for me, more than me.

Alien Superhero, Superman, Being Labeled An Immigrant By James Gunn Sparks MAGA Outrage & Lunacy.

Source: The White House / Donald Trump / Superman James Gunn's Superman has finally hit theaters. After he used the one word that is Kryptonite to MAGA lames to describe the iconic superhero, they are now boycotting the summer blockbuster. The White House even chimed in with the ridiculous photoshopped image you see above. The head of the DCU went too far when he accurately described the extraterrestrial refugee, Kal-El, also known as Superman, as an 'immigrant' and as 'the story of America' when speaking with The Times of London during the film's ongoing press run. If you have been under a rock, Superman would absolutely be ashamed of the United States, and thrown in Kryptonite handcuffs right now by ICE and sent to alligator Alcatraz because he's an immigrant, as the Trump administration is currently waging war on anyone who doesn't fit their description of American. Gunn's description of the DC Comics character sparked a massive wave of outrage from conservatives, who feel they are trying to make a compassionate alien 'woke.' Bloviating about Gunn's comments, Fox News pundit, Kellyanne Conway said, 'We don't go to the movie theaters to be lectured on Superman.' Fox News anchor and professional douchebag, Jesse Watters, added, 'You know what it says on his cape? MS13.' The crying didn't stop there. Dean Cain, who unfortunately played Superman for years in the hit ABC series Lois & Clark, told TMZ that he's afraid Hollywood is gonna make Superman 'woke,' and that Gunna labeling him an immigrant was an 'avoidable mistake.' 'How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?' Cain told the celebrity gossip site. 'How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters [to] exist for the times? For Superman, it was 'truth, justice, and the American way.' Well, they dropped that… They came up with 'truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.' Changing beloved characters I don't think is a great idea. If you want to create a new character, go ahead and do that.' 'Superman has always stood for 'truth, justice and the American way,' and the 'American way' is immigrant friendly, tremendously immigrant friendly,' Cain continued. 'But there are rules. You can't come in saying, 'I want to get rid of all the rules in America, because I want it to be more like Somalia.' Well, that doesn't work, because you had to leave Somalia to come here… There have to be limits, because we cant have everybody in the United States. We can't have everybody, society will fail. So there have to be limits.' 'I think that was a mistake by James Gunn to say it's an immigrant thing, and I think it's going to hurt the numbers on the movie,' Cain said. He continued, 'I was excited for the film. I am excited to see what it is,' adding, 'I'm rooting for it to be a success, but I don't like that last political comment.' The White House Had The Audacity To Share A Photoshop Image of Trump's Head on Superman's Body The Trump administration continued to prove just how unserious it is and injected itself into the conservative fallout about the Superman movie. In typical Trump fashion, the official White House account, managed by a right-wing incel, shared a photoshopped version of the Superman movie poster with Donald Trump's head photoshopped on the film's star, David Corenswet's body. Yes, the post is still up if you're curious. The film's director and cast were asked about the outrage, and they are all sipping on MAGA tears when it comes to the matter. Gunn told Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of the film that he doesn't have 'anything to say to anybody,' making it their business to speak negatively about his superhero film. He also added that 'I think this is a movie about kindness and I think that's something everyone can relate to.' Gunn's brother, actor Sean Gunn, who plays Maxwell Lord in the film, told the outlet, 'My reaction to [the backlash] is that it is exactly what the movie is about. We support our people, you know? We love our immigrants. Yes, Superman is an immigrant, and yes, the people that we support in this country are immigrants, and if you don't like that, you're not American. People who say no to immigrants are against the American way.' Actor Nathan Fillion, who plays Green Lantern in the movie, said, 'Somebody needs a hug. It's just a movie, guys,' reacting to the MAGA backlash. He's not wrong, but they damn sure need more than a hug. First Look at Evan Peters as The Villain Julian Dillinger in TRON: ARES — GeekTyrant

Disney has dropped some new photos from it's upcoming film Tron: Ares , and they offer a first look at Evan Peters as the film's villain, Julian Dillinger. The third entry in the Tron franchise. following 1982's Tron and 2010's Tron: Legacy , is finally surfacing after years of development, and Peters' character appears to be stirring up trouble on both sides of the digital divide. Julian Dillinger, as the name suggests, carries a heavy legacy. Speaking at D23, Peters teased the connection: 'Dillinger doesn't always mean great things for those on the grid.' One of the newly released images also shows Julian alongside a character played by The X-Files star Gillian Anderson, who portrays Julian's mother, Elisabeth. In Empire magazine, Anderson opened up about the tension in their dynamic: 'Having a son that behaves in the way that Julian does, and trying to deal with his actions, both emotionally and logistically — it adds a level of stress and strain to their relationship.' The film's official synopsis sets the stage: 'A highly sophisticated Program called Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind's first encounter with A.I. beings.' Directed by Joachim Rønning ( Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ) and written by Jesse Wigutow, the movie brings back Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn and introduces Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, and Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena. Tron: Ares hits U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025.

‘Scrubs' reboot with original stars airing on ABC this year

'Scrubs' will be back in action, as are its three stars, later this year, more than 15 years after the hit medical comedy took its final bow. A reboot of the NBC-turned-ABC sitcom has gotten a straight-to-series order at the latter, where it will air for the 2025 to 2026 season, Variety reports. In addition to Zach Braff, whose planned return as J.D. was reported in late May, original stars Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke will also be back. They starred in the original Emmy winner as Turk and Elliot, respectively. 'After years apart, best friends J.D. and Turk reunite at Sacred Heart hospital, where they face modern medical challenges alongside fresh faces while keeping their legendary friendship alive,' reads the logline on the untitled series' IMDb page. 'Scrubs' creator Bill Lawrence also created the reboot, which he will co-executive produce. ''Scrubs' means so very much to me,' Lawrence told Variety. 'So excited for the chance to get the band back together.' Variety reported in December that the new iteration was in early development at Disney-owned ABC. 'Scrubs' debuted in 2001 on NBC, where it aired for seven seasons before moving to ABC for its final two.
