Coweta County daycare worker caught on camera slamming 3-year-old onto cot
The alleged assault happened March 21 at Big Blue Marble Academy on Summerlin Blvd in Newnan. Days later, deputies charged Samantha Hertzog, 33, with cruelty to children in the first degree.

In a short surveillance clip, you can see a teacher, identified as Hertzog, walk to the back of the classroom.
At one point, deputies say the teacher kicked a 3-year-old's cot before she picked up the toddler and 'forcefully slam' them back onto the cot. The sheriff's office report did not say what injuries the child had.
Deputies went to Hertzog's apartment on March 26. Body camera video shows deputies escorting Hertzog to one of their patrol cars.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that it is investigating the daycare and sent the following statement:
'A child care worker was arrested following allegations of physically assaulting a child during naptime. The worker has been charged with first-degree cruelty to children. On Friday, the 34-year-old artist received a guilty verdict in an Atlanta court. According to WSB-TV Atlanta , the life sentence plus 70 years will run concurrently. His mother, Linda Smith, was sentenced to 30 years, and his cousin, Tyrone Taylor, was sentenced to life in prison plus 70 years. Gibson is known for his 2014 platinum hit 'Cashin' Out' and 'She Twerkin.' He released one studio album in 2014, 'Let's Get It,' and six mixtapes. The trial, which began this past June, brought forth allegations that Gibson, his cousin and his mother had forced women into sex work. When they operated the 'house of horrors,' they were also said to have coordinated the sale of women and the corresponding payments. Prosecutors presented text messages from eight different phones as evidence. 'This has been going on for seven years,' Fulton County prosecutor Earnelle Winfrey said to the Atlanta courtroom on Friday. 'This ain't just straight pimping — this is trafficking.' She added that though they were 'pimping, for sure,' it was the 'force and cohesion' of the operation that made it trafficking. Advertisement Gibson first faced charges in June 2023. His legal team claimed that victims were pushed to testify. In closing arguments, his team argued that the women involved were not forced. His mother claimed that she was unaware of the trafficking, but prosecutors cited payment receipts linking her to the offenses. This included a leased residence where some of the victims were said to be housed. Additionally, witnesses claimed that Smith had engaged in prostitution herself.

ATF launches anti-gun trafficking campaign in South Florida, cracking down on "straw purchasing"
A renewed effort to stop people from buying guns for those who cannot. "I think that nobody should be buying guns for anybody else," said gun owner Waldo Toyos. "You buy your own gun, and it's your gun." Waldo Toyos is a gun owner, but doesn't think everyone should own a gun, especially those who legally cannot. "Miami and South Florida and all the way up until the Orlando area," said ATF Deputy Director Rob Cedaka. "There is a lot of firearms trafficking, and it ends here and ends up in the Caribbean. It also ends up in Mexico as well." Federal and local officials teamed up on Friday to increase awareness of their "Don't Lie for the Other Guys" campaign. "When these firearms are out there in our community and in the wrong hands, we see the results: we see the shootings, we see the robberies, we see the crimes that are occurring," said Miami-Dade Asst. Sheriff Erick Garcia. According to ATF, more than 40 illegal firearms were confiscated in Margate more than five years ago as part of a long-standing investigation. "We've seen traffickers spread themselves all around the country trying to develop targets, people that they think are easy victims to go out and willing to use their clean, criminal history, or lack of criminal history to be able to buy a firearm," said Cekada. The owner of Top Gun in Southwest Miami-Dade sees the importance of this initiative in keeping the community safe. "It's important to get the information out to customers and to prevent crimes from happening," said Steve Schack, Top Gun's owner. "If you're going out and committing a crime, whether you're purchasing a gun or doing anything that here in [Miami-Dade County], we're gonna go out, we're gonna look for you and we're gonna make an arrest," said Garcia.
