Aga Khan meets French President Macron
His Highness was received at the Élysée Palace by President Macron for luncheon and private discussions. His Highness was accompanied by his uncle, Prince Amyn Aga Khan, his two brothers, Prince Hussain Aga Khan and Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan, and leaders of his institutions.
Three agreements were signed at the Élysée:
Agreement between the French Republic and the Ismaili Imamat. The agreement reinforces a long-standing and deep relationship. It spans the domains of development investment, humanitarian support, health care, education, higher education and research, culture and the arts, agriculture development, food security, infrastructure, environmental protection and the fight against climate change, and social cohesion. It also facilitates dialogue and cooperation in matters of international relations, with the aim of fostering peace and stability, reinforcing respect for pluralism, developing a strong and effective civil society, and promoting interfaith dialogue. The agreement recognises the presence of the Ismaili Imamat in France, including through official representation between the two parties and a joint coordinating committee.
Declaration of Intent to Cooperate in Syria. France and the Ismaili Imamat signed a declaration confirming their intention to cooperate for the successful and peaceful transition in Syria, protection of human dignity, rebuilding resilience, and resettling displaced people. Cooperation will include responses to the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and investments in the foundation for the sustainable, long-term development of the country, including rebuilding the economy through agricultural support and entrepreneurship; reinforcing the healthcare system; and providing cultural support to create employment and catalyse economic growth.
Declaration of Intent to Cooperate in the Indian Ocean Region. France and the Ismaili Imamat signed a declaration of their intention to cooperate on the regeneration of coastal zones and marine ecosystems in the Indian Ocean region. Notably, this initiative will include support for the reconstruction and sustainable development of Mayotte.

Chinese experts' report: Minister reviews finalisation of sectoral action plan
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review the implementation and finalisation of the sectoral action plan based on the Chinese experts' Report. The meeting was attended by Secretary Planning Awais Manzur Sumra, Vice Chancellor PIDE, Chief Economist, Project Director CPEC Secretariat, and senior officials from various ministries and divisions. The report shared by the Chinese Embassy was prepared by Chinese Working Teams following their visit to Pakistan to assess potential areas of enhanced economic cooperation. The report outlined key observations and recommendations in different sectors such as connectivity, the development of a national agricultural plan, Gwadar Port linkages, IT collaboration, and other strategic areas. Ministries were requested to review the report and provide feedback. In line with the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, 10 federal focal groups were constituted to develop sector-specific action plans in response to the technical assessments presented by the Chinese expert teams. Since then, the Ministry of Planning under the chairmanship of Minister Ahsan Iqbal has held multiple rounds of meetings to shape the final action plan and has consistently encouraged the ministries to align their inputs with Chinese recommendations and outline a clear path forward. During the meeting, all relevant ministries discussed the sectoral suggestions made by the Chinese teams and presented updates on their respective projects. Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed that each ministry must prepare a comprehensive response based on the Chinese Experts' Report so that the CPEC Secretariat can compile and submit a unified, detailed reply to the Chinese side. He also directed that China should be formally informed about the progress made by Pakistan on the recommendations, and efforts should be made to fully capitalize on the areas and projects for which China has already expressed willingness to cooperate. The meeting marks a significant step towards deepening Pakistan-China economic cooperation and ensuring that both sides move forward with a shared understanding and commitment to mutual development goals. Indian water aggression: National policy being formed: Ahsan
LAHORE: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that a comprehensive national policy is being formulated in consultation with all four provinces to counter Indian water aggression. He said this while inaugurating the newly established Engineers' Lounge at the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, here. Ahsan maintained that the proposed policy is aimed at effectively safeguarding Pakistan's water resources in the face of ongoing regional challenges. He also announced to establish a special technical committee comprising water experts and engineers to provide technically sound recommendations to address water disputes and related challenges. Highlighting the importance of engineering for national progress, Ahsan stressed the need for mobilising engineers as part of a national mission to address Pakistan's pressing challenges. Ahsan Iqbal further said that Pakistan's engineers were a valuable national asset, and their intelligence and hard work must be harnessed for the country's development agenda. IMF reaffirms support to reform agenda
ISLAMABAD: International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Resident Representative for Pakistan, Mahir Binici in his comprehensive guest lecture at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), shed light on the evolving economic landscape across the MENA region and Pakistan, and reaffirming the Fund's continued support for Pakistan's economic and climate reform agenda. Addressing economists, researchers, and policy experts at SDPI, Binici stated that growth across the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) region, and Pakistan is expected to strengthen in 2025 and beyond. However, he cautioned that 'elevated trade tensions, geopolitical fragmentation, and weakening global cooperation continue to generate exceptional uncertainty and weigh on the global economic outlook,' underlining the urgent need for prudent and forward-looking policy actions. Aurangzeb says IMF case approved 'on merit' despite disruption attempts Focusing on Pakistan, Binici noted that the country's performance under the IMF's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) has been 'strong so far,' adding that the successful completion of the first review by the IMF Executive Board in May 2025 was a key milestone. 'Early policy measures have helped restore macroeconomic stability and rebuild investor confidence, despite persistent external challenges,' Binici remarked. He emphasized that structural reforms remain central to Pakistan's long-term economic sustainability, particularly reforms that strengthen tax equity, improve the business climate, and encourage private-sector-led investment. He also spotlighted Pakistan's progress on climate-related reforms under the IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). According to Binici, the RSF is designed to help countries like Pakistan bolster resilience to climate-related vulnerabilities and meet international climate commitments. He mentioned that the key areas of reform under the RSF included enhancing public investment planning, promoting efficient and sustainable use of water resources, improving institutional coordination for disaster preparedness and financing, expanding the availability and transparency of climate-related data. Binici stressed that 'support through the RSF will not only strengthen Pakistan's climate resilience but also help unlock green investments and foster a more climate-conscious economic trajectory.' Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri, Executive Director SDPI welcomed the IMF representative's outreach, noting the importance of informed economic dialogue and multilateral cooperation in Pakistan's journey toward sustainable development. The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion on fiscal and monetary policy frameworks, external buffers, and the role of international institutions in fostering inclusive growth.
