REVEALED! Why Did Gautam Gambhir Lose His Cool At The Oval Before Abusive Tirade
Gautam Gambhir's outburst at The Oval's head groundsman Lee Fortis was due to India not getting a suitable practice pitch. Tensions rose when Fortis made specific demands.
The reasons behind Gautam Gambhir's stunning abusive tirade at The Oval head groundsman Lee Fortis are slowly coming out.
According to further reports, it all started when India wasn't given a desirable surface to practice on the ground. Reportedly, the pitch provided was wet, and India asked for different arrangements, which were denied. Further, Fortis is said to have tried to pinpoint minute details at Gambhir, like where the team should make their marks and not, which further angered the head coach, unraveling into the argument.
Videos from the incident show Gambhir pointing fingers at Fortis, and telling him, 'You can complain to whoever you want, you don't tell us what to do. You are just a groundsman.'
India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak is said to have played a role in easing out tensions by speaking to both parties. He recently spoke at a press conference to explain what went down.
'When we were looking at pitch, they sent a staff member to order us to stand two and a half metres away," Kotak said. 'We were wearing joggers. It was a surprise, very odd. We were looking at the wicket with rubber spikes, and there was nothing wrong with it. We were making sure the ground wasn't damaged. It's a pitch, not an antique."
Fortis was repeatedly asked for a comment by the media present on the ground but denied, only mentioning that Gambhir was 'a bit touchy' ahead of the big game. Kotak, on his part, said that India won't lodge any complaint.
It all happened during India's official practice session before the Test. Not all players were present, but the support staff was there early to get hours into Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav, among others.

How Chris Woakes overcame injury to deliver for England at crucial moment
Chris Woakes It was a remarkable scene to end a remarkable series. On Friday morning. Chris Woakes was ruled out for the rest of the fifth Test match at The Oval on Friday morning. Three days later, though, he walked out to the crease with his left arm in a sling beneath his jumper, prepared to bat one-handed and on his non-dominant side, as England needed just 17 runs to win. Woakes stepped out of the dressing-room from the Bedser Stand. The drama and tension of the series decider only enhanced after this move, making the moment as moving as Rishabh Pant's hobble walk to the crease in Manchester with a fractured foot. England are yet to provide an official statement on Woakes injury England are yet to give an official statement, but it is believed that Woakes dislocated his shoulder while diving in the field on the opening day of the Test. He is set to consult a specialist this week to assess the severity of the injury. Woakes has been ruled out for the rest of the summer and is already a major doubt for the opening Ashes Test in Perth on November 21. With the final delivery of the 83rd over, Prasidh Krishna bowled England's No. 10 Josh Tongue, saving Woakes from facing a ball and allowing Atkinson to keep the strike. Woakes was clearly uncomfortable, though, as he grimaced after each run and asked umpire Ahsan Raza for assistance when his sling came loose during a bye. Woakes would have been replaced immediately following his injury on Thursday night in most other sports, but cricket is different. On Saturday, instead, he remained in the dressing room and observed England's three-man attack in action. He went to the indoor school for a practice batting session on Sunday afternoon as the chase continued. Woakes had a throwdown session before walking out to bat on final day Woakes initially tried to hold the bat normally while facing a few throwdowns, but as the tempo increased, the pain became unbearable. He then adopted a left-hander's stance and began batting with his left arm back in a sling. In addition to providing him with control over his 'top' hand, this helped him keep his injured shoulder as far away from the ball as possible. On Monday, Woakes required help from England physio Ben Davies to get padded up and had to improvise with his gear. He wore two small arm guards on his right arm and added as much protection as possible to his left, which was tucked under a jumper to keep it stable. Mohammed Siraj became furious when Woakes fought his way through for a bye at the end of his opening over at the crease. 'Nahin bola tu?' After landing his wide yorker and watching Dhruv Jurel's underarm throw miss the stumps, he asked Shubman Gill, 'Didn't you tell him?' Woakes, however, had bigger concerns, grimacing in pain and holding his left arm. Woakes managed to take off his helmet to put his left arm back in place. He asked Raza for help after realising that he won't be able to put his glove back on alone. As Woakes took a deep breath and prepared himself to stand at the non-striker's end once more, the packed fifth-day crowd began to grasp the full extent of what he was enduring.

England Players Have A Nickname For Mohammed Siraj: 'They Call Him Mr...'
Last Updated: Nasser Hussain has revealed a hilarious nickname that England players have for Mohammed Siraj. Former England captain Nasser Hussain has revealed that Ben Stokes' team has a nickname for Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj — Mr. Angry — because of his fiery nature on the field. Hussain gave it out in his tribute for Siraj, calling him a 'born entertainer' with everything from passion and skill to succeed at this level. Siraj won India the Oval Test with nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul in their defense of 374. He had some forgettable moments, like dropping Harry Brook when he was new at the crease and then seeing him hit a century, but didn't let it deter his belief to script India's narrowest win, by six runs, and one of the best comebacks. He ended the series, drawn 2-2, as the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets. 'He's fiery, the England boys call him Mr. Angry, and he has the longest follow-through in the history of the game, but he demands your attention," Hussain wrote in his column for The Daily Mail. 'You could do a montage of the histrionics – down on his knees in despair at Lord's, the celebrations and dejection when DRS decisions go one way or another." 'He's a born entertainer, but crucially he's got all the other attributes you need at the highest level: heart, passion, and ultimately skill. He's gone from being a hit-the-deck bowler using wobble seam to trap people LBW – as he did with Joe Root – to one who has developed outswing so big that Shubman Gill wasn't interested in taking the second new ball," he added. 'Then, there is the fabulous yorker, such as the one to Crawley late on day three. He went to it again just before midday, knowing that Gus Atkinson was trying to hit him over midwicket for a second six that would have tied the game, nailing it under the most immense pressure. If Siraj gets it wrong, India lose the series, so it was perfect execution from a champion cricketer that has unfairly courted controversy over the past month," Hussain said. Earlier, even Root had called out Siraj for his 'fake-aggression'. Speaking light-heartedly and with praise for the Indian pacer, the English batter said he sees right through Siraj's antics while batting. 'I will miss it': Nasser Hussain on India-England series Hussain summarised the frantic final day of the series, saying he'll miss it now that it's over. 'Now it's finished, I will miss it. So incredible has it been that it makes you wonder why this format is ever questioned? If you landed someone 30 days ago and took them around this country's Test match venues, asking them: Is this thing we call Test cricket working? They'd look at you funny. It's so bloody good," Hussain said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Commonwealth Sport Team To Visit Ahmedabad Today
Last Updated: India's chances of hosting the 2030 CWG have brightened after Canada pulled out of the bidding race last month. A team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by its Director of Games Darren Hall, will be in Ahmedabad for three days starting Tuesday to inspect venues and meet Gujarat government officials as India's chances of hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games improve. The team arrived in the national capital on Sunday and will be in Ahmedabad – the proposed host city if India secures the hosting rights – on Tuesday. 'Yes, a team from Commonwealth Sport (formerly known as Commonwealth Games Federation) is in New Delhi and will visit Ahmedabad from August 5 to 7," an official privy to the development told news agency PTI. The team met with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials. 'A large delegation from Commonwealth Sport will visit later this month," the official added. India's chances of hosting the 2030 CWG have improved after Canada withdrew from the bidding race last month. India has submitted an Expression of Interest to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, selecting Ahmedabad as the host city. However, the country must submit final bid proposals before the August 31 deadline. The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decide the host country in the last week of November in Glasgow. 'The host selection will be based on sustainability, athletic centre, regional appeal, and flexibility regarding the host nation," Harpal Singh, IOA executive member and member of the Sports Committee of Commonwealth Sports, stated last month.
