Forgotten soap storylines
The nation's soaps have had many gripping storylines play out over the years. However, some plots proved to be far less memorable. Here are some forgotten stories from Weatherfield, Walford and more...
Coronation Street
Ken and Audrey's romance (2015): After the death of wife Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride), Coronation Street original Ken Barlow (William Roache) started to move on in his life. He started to develop a spark with old friend Audrey (Sue Nicholls), with then-Corrie boss saying it would be like "Ross and Rachel". In the end, nothing ever came of it and the two remained platonic pals.
Beth's bigamy (2016): Despite being happily married to Kirk (Andrew Whyment), a troubling secret came to light about Beth Tinker (Lisa George). It transpired that she had never divorced from her first husband, Darryl (Paul Loughran), father of her son Craig (Colson Smith). Although Craig and Kirk were shocked - and Beth was arrested - the storyline didn't didn't go much further.
EastEnders
Kat Slater's secret son (2017): Capitalising on the popularity of Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie (Shane Richie), the two received a spin-off back in 2017. Titled 'Redwater', it saw the two travel to Ireland where they met long-lost son Luke, now called Dermott Dolan, played by Oisín Stack. Despite the high-tension events during Redwater, Kat seems to have put the experience behind her as Dermott's not been mentioned since.
Alfie's brain tumour (2015): Having learned in 2015 that he had a brain tumour, Alfie kept the news from Kat until their trip to Ireland. At the time, actor Shane Ritchie revealed fans would see a change in Alfie as he battled the illness. It would appear that at some point after leaving the Square, was told the tumour was non-malignant. By the time Alfie returned in 2022, fans were left confused over what had happened to the storyline.
Kathy and Buster's affair (2016): In 2016, Walford legend Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) fell into the arms of convict Buster Briggs, played by Karl Howman. Buster was the long-time lover of Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) and fathered both her sons - Mick (Danny Dyer) and Dean (Matt Di Angelo). When Buster left, he begged Kathy to join him, but she refused for the sake of her family. Meanwhile Buster didn't even stop to say goodbye to Shirley before exiting with a broken heart. Fans expected a showdown between the two women, but this never came to pass.
Emmerdale
Jacob's OCD (2016): After his dad, David (Matthew Wolfenden), was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016, Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) developed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This manifested in the form of cleaning. Jacob's OCD made a brief return one year on, after David had another scare after finding a lump. Jacob frantically searched the bins for a 'lucky coin' that had accidentally been thrown away. Despite stressful situations - such as being groomed by his teacher Maya, losing his fiancee Leanna to a serial killer, dealing with mum Leyla's drug addiction, and surviving a stabbing - the condition doesn't appear to have returned.
Marlon and Charity's fling (2003): Few fans would likely remember few will remember the one-night stand between Charity (Emma Atkins) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) in 2003. The pair slept together when Charity was staying with Marlon while still under suspicion for husband Chris's supposed "murder".
Hollyoaks
Alex Browning's revenge plot (2014): Fans expected a confrontation when Dr Browning's son Alex (Ojan Genc) mer stepmum Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe). After all, Mercedes, with Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) and Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin) had murdered Alex's dad, double-murderer Dr Paul Browning, after he kidnapped and attacked his new wife. In fact, the soap teased Alex would seek revenge for his father's death upon arriving. However, he instead gave Cindy's son Hilton (his half-brother) a life-saving transplant, became his godfather, and leaving the village soon after.
The new role comes three years after Hannah tied the knot to former The Bill star husband Huw Higginson.
Huw is most notable for his ten-year role in The Bill as PC George Garfield.
Huw posted a celebratory shot showing their special day in October 2022 as they posed with their son Jack, 11, on a boat in Sydney.
The Bill actor gushed in his caption: "Got married to my love yesterday. We had the best of days."
Hannah can be seen gazing lovingly at her spouse as they celebrated their special day.
She wore a patterned, long-sleeve blue frock - perhaps as her something blue - complete with gold strappy sandals and a navy pashmina.
She clutched a bouquet of cream flowers and accessorised with a pair of sunglasses.
The happy couple made the move to Australia in 2014.
It came after Hannah married fellow EastEnders star Ricky Groves in 2006.
But, the pair separated in 2010 and divorced in 2014.

The Bachelorette's Laura Byrne shares sweet tribute to her husband Matty 'J' Johnson on his 38th birthday

has shared a heartwarming tribute to her husband Matty 'J' Johnson as he celebrated his 38th birthday. The Bachelorette star, who met Matty on the hit reality series in 2017, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a slew of sweet - and hilarious - pictures, along with a caption gushing over her radio star hubby. 'Happy birthday to this glorious hunk of dad, the real MVP of this family and the man who thinks budgy smugglers are a complete summer wardrobe,' the 39-year-old quipped. 'We would be utterly lost without your daily silliness, your dedication to filling the green bin, and your 10 out of 10 chicken pies,' she hilariously penned. 'You're aging like a fine wine (see pic 17 for proof) how lucky we are to do life by your side - WE LOVE YOU.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Amongst the pictures were photographs of the happy couple at different stages throughout their relationship, as well as a few funny snaps of the birthday boy. One throwback picture showed Matty as a teenager at his school dance while a number of snaps showed him in a tight pair of colourful speedos. The post, which has already received nearly 12,000 likes, also included snaps of Matty, Laura and their two daughters Marlie-Mae and Lola. Laura recently made headlines for calling out her podcast host husband after he accidentally revealed the name of their unborn baby girl on-air. In June, the reality star was doing an 'ask me anything' questionnaire on her Instagram story when one of her followers brought up the moment, which she was seemingly unaware of. 'Did you punch Matt in the ovaries for revealing [your] baby name on Two Doting Dads?' the question read. Laura was clearly caught off-guard as she replied: 'He did f***ing what?!' Later on, the business owner brought up the blunder with her husband as they lay in bed together. 'Matt I have a question for you: did you say the girl's name, the baby's name, on the podcast?' she asked him in a clip posted to her Instagram story. He looked at his partner confused as he denied the accusation. 'I think you might have,' she told him, cheekily. 'I would never, never. Never would I say that,' he said defensively as the couple both broke out into giggles. Laura told the camera: 'People always ask us, 'how do you know the limits when you're telling stories and stuff on the podcast?' and normally we're pretty good... Normally.' Matty began to pipe up as he sported a giant smile on his face, clearly telling a fib. 'Whoever is spreading this false information, shame on you, because that's not true at all,' he said. While Matty may have mentioned the little girl's name, it seems it was edited out of the podcast as it could later no longer be found. In April, Laura announced on her podcast, Life Uncut, which she co-hosts with fellow reality star Brittany Hockley, that she was expecting her third daughter in October.

Coleen Nolan's sex confession as she signs up to unusual dating app after split

Coleen Nolan has been single since late last year and exclusively reveals what she thinks about dating again, and why she doesn't want anyone's 'toothbrush in her bathroom' again Loose Women legend Coleen Nolan has opened up about getting back on the dating scene after splitting up from her ex, Michael Jones, late last year. The TV legend had been dating her ex since 2001, but the pair decided they "would rather just stay friends," Coleen said, and they went their separate ways. After the split, Coleen said: "It's nothing to do with anyone else, it's nobody's fault. But I'm really busy and when I'm not really busy with work I'm busy on the farm and I feel personally that I can't give time to everything. We still get along great and hopefully we can continue to be friends, who knows?" ‌ ‌ While she's still officially single, Coleen said she'd "probably date again", but was waiting for the right time - and the right person to come along. "The men I meet are either married or gay, so I've no hope in the industry I'm in,' she exclusively told OK!. 'And I don't go out to bars, unless they're serving me a cup of tea.' For now, Coleen's focus is her farm - and 30-odd animals - as well as her new YouTube channel which gives viewers a glimpse of the highs and lows of living on a smallholding. With limited time for dating, Coleen doesn't rule out signing up to a dating app to find her perfect match. 'Apparently, there's one that's aimed at country folk, called Muddy Matches, so that'll be the one I try when I'm up for it,' she says. 'But whoever I date, I'm not sure I want their toothbrush in my bathroom. I've been in relationships my whole life and I'm enjoying having my house to myself, not worrying about anyone else." Coleen, who was once married to EastEnders actor Shane Richie, followed by musician Ray Fensome, says she doesn't' necessarily miss "sex", but the odd bit physical affection would be welcome. ‌ 'I do miss hugging and kissing, but not necessarily sex. That said, if I meet him and I fancy him, he's getting it! You can't beat a good snog and there's only so many times I can kiss my boxer dog's crinkly face.' Double dating with her Loose Women colleague Ruth Langsford, who separated from her husband Eamonn Holmes last year, is also not currently an option, she added. 'Ruth's definitely not going on dates yet. I'm trying to force her into it but she's not having it. And I think she'd be a terrible wingwoman — she'd be too severe and say, 'No, you're not right, get away!'"

AFL star Billy Brownless and his partner Crystle Fleur celebrate anniversary with 'biggest adventure yet'

Billy Brownless is celebrating his one year anniversary with his partner Crystle Fleur - and marking the milestone with a big gesture. The girlfriend of the former AFL star took to Instagram on Sunday to gush about her beau, while also hinting at what's to come for the happy couple. 'Happy 1st anniversary to this amazing man!' the mum-of-three captioned the post, which was accompanied with a sweet photo of the pair with giant smiles. '365 days of love, laughter and amazing adventures as we fly off to start the biggest one yet!' she added. Friends poured into the comments section to congratulate Billy and Crystle on their year together, including former AFL player Dale Thomas, social media star Emma Hawkins and 7News sports presenter Rebecca Maddern. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The couple are set to celebrate the anniversary with a romantic getaway, though where that may be is not known as of yet. Billy, 58, and Crystle, 52, went public with their relationship back in October last year and it seems things are on the up for the couple. The pair have been spotted out and about together on several occasions, notably attending Geelong's Best and Fairest awards at the end of last season, the Australian Open in January and his daughter Ruby's wedding, in March. Ruby wed Josh Wallis, the brother of Western Bulldogs star Mitch, at a lavish ceremony in Noosa at the beginning of March, with Billy cutting an emotional figure during the ceremony. Billy and Crystle's relationship blossomed shortly after he made headlines for a grand gesture involving another female friend. Since then, he and Crystle have been inseparable, seen enjoying outings across Melbourne. In February, the pair were spotted strolling hand-in-hand through South Yarra after a casual café date. A mother-of-three, Crystle's low-key style and successful career have captured Brownless' heart. Billy (far left) is said to have cut an emotional figure during his daughter Ruby's (third from left) wedding to Josh Wallis in March Brownless, one of Geelong's most popular players, made his name with 198 AFL games and 441 goals. Billy was previously married to Nicky Brownless for 18 years before separating in late 2015. Brownless' private life hit the headlines in 2016 when his friendship with Garry Lyon was rocked by scandal. The former best mates fell out after it emerged Lyon was in a relationship with Brownless' ex-wife, Nicky. The public split caused deep hurt for Brownless, who spoke openly about his disappointment.
