He pointed to the successful Gulf experiences presented at the forum as practical models, offering a clear roadmap for institutional development and sectoral integration. 'These are not mere theoretical exercises but actionable frameworks that can elevate performance across entities and contribute to a sustainable development model rooted in shared expertise,' he said. Dr Al-Ajmi concluded by extending his appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its warm hospitality and excellent organization of the forum. He also lauded the efforts of the Executive Office of the GCC Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs, as well as the GCC General Secretariat, for their effective coordination of the forum's dialogue sessions.
The session also featured a presentation by Director of the Civil Society Associations Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Iman Al-Enezi, who outlined Kuwait's achievements in promoting financial sustainability among non-profit organizations. She said Kuwait has adopted a comprehensive institutional framework rooted in transparency, governance, and empowerment, enabling civil and charitable associations to diversify their income sources through legislative, financial, and regulatory reforms.
'We now have pioneering national models of community leadership that can be leveraged at the Gulf and Arab levels,' Al-Enezi said. She explained that Kuwaiti non-profit organizations rely on a mix of government funding, private sector support, individual donations, and charitable endowments—strengthening their independence and operational flexibility.
Al-Enezi praised the Gulf Forum as an effective platform for exchanging experiences and aligning development goals, reaffirming Kuwait's firm commitment to supporting joint Gulf action and enhancing civil society performance. The Kuwaiti delegation to the forum was led by Dr Khaled Al-Ajmi and included Iman Al-Enezi and Director of the Charitable Organizations Department, Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi. The forum is part of the implementation of recommendations from the 10th meeting of GCC Ministers of Social Affairs and reflects ongoing efforts to consolidate sustainable community partnerships and reinforce the role of non-profit institutions in advancing the development agenda of GCC states. — KUNA

KUWAIT CITY, July 26: Municipal Council member Alia Al-Farsi has submitted a question to the executive body of Kuwait Municipality regarding tyre landfills and dumping sites, pointing out that Kuwait has scarce and undiversified natural resources, while it has large quantities of waste that can be utilised in the economic sector. Al-Farsi said the Environmental Affairs Committee in the council discussed this issue in its first workshop -- held on June 26, 2024 -- under the title, 'Tyre Landfills and Dumping Sites and their Impact on Public Health and Environmental Safety - Current Situation and Sustainable Solutions,' which resulted in the issuance of a set of urgent and long-term recommendations. She included in her question the most important recommendations presented at the workshop -- the need for coordination between the Municipality, Environment Public Authority (EPA) and Public Authority for Industry (PAI) to gradually eliminate tyre accumulation, particularly at the Kilometer 65 site in Salmi, with the participation of factories licensed by PAI and Kuwaiti entrepreneurs approved by the Municipality. She said this should be part of a comprehensive plan that includes studying the specifications of the accumulated tyres (both new and old) and the mechanism for distributing them to treatment facilities, under the supervision of the Municipality and according to a clear timetable. She added that the plan must also include meeting the requirements of the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) at tyre collection sites, such as establishing temporary water basins, developing a comprehensive plan to manage tyre disposal in line with sustainable development goals, and rehabilitating waste transporters in light of the new regulations for municipal waste management and public hygiene. She enumerated the other recommendations as follows: Promote modern tyre processing methods; Prepare a procedures manual for the use of recycled building materials in coordination with Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Ministry of Public Works and Kuwait University; Specify legislative frameworks through the Regulations Review Committee at the Municipality; Monitor the results of experiments conducted by some entities using rubber asphalt extracted from tyres, in preparation for developing technical specifications and expanding the scope of application in road projects; Invest in recycled waste within road maintenance contracts at the Ministry of Public Works; Support and encourage the private sector to implement projects that promote sustainable development and the green economy Al-Farsi pointed out that more than a year had passed since the issuance of these recommendations, which prompted her to present a series of questions to the executive body in the Municipality, about the measures taken regarding the tyres landfill in Salmi (Kilometer 65) and the extent of the commitment of the Municipality to implement the recommendations; especially concerning the disposal of tyre waste in line with the sustainable development goals. She also inquired about the mechanism followed in measuring and managing the quantities of accumulated tyres, as well as the increase and disposal rates.

The deals, unveiled by Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih at a Damascus forum, are a major financial boost for Sharaa as he struggles to establish control over Syria, which was rocked this month by sectarian violence in the southwest. Al-Falih said his visit to Syria had been ordered by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, calling the trip 'confirmation of the kingdom's firm and supportive stance towards sisterly Syria'. The investment deals included $2.93 billion for real estate and infrastructure projects and about $1.07 billion for the telecommunications and information technology sector, Al-Falih said. Businesses involved in the plans include telecommunications firms the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and GO Telecom, digital security company Elm, cybersecurity firm Cipher, and Classera, an education technology company. Al-Falih said 47 agreements would be signed over the course of the conference, with more than 100 companies participating. Al-Falih also announced the establishment of a Saudi-Syrian Business Council at the event, which had been scheduled for June but was delayed due to the conflict between Iran and Zionist entity. Riyadh has been a key ally of Sharaa's government, which came to power after longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad was toppled in December, using its diplomatic influence to persuade US President Donald Trump to lift sanctions.
