Liverpool given Marc Guehi boost as wantaway star's transfer preference emerges

Liverpool are edging closer to the signing of Marc Guehi while Harvey Elliott could be on his way out as Arne Slot aims to streamline his squad for the upcoming season Strike while the iron's hot, they say, and Liverpool have done exactly that this summer. Boasting their newfound status as Premier League champions, the Reds have already spent more than £200million. June alone saw the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong while Trent Alexander-Arnold was the big-name departure. There are plenty more ins and outs expected to occur over the coming weeks, as we approach pre-season. ‌ The Reds will head to Asia later this month for a tour, with the squad firstly set to meet up for training in Kirkby next Monday, July 7. But there could be a fourth signing between now and then, with a deal for Marc Guehi in the pipeline. ‌ There's now been an update on the Crystal Palace defender as well as the future of Harvey Elliott. The Reds midfielder could be one of several players to leave for pastures new before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Anfield. Reds get Guehi boost Crystal Palace are one step away from acquiring their replacement for Marc Guehi, boosting Liverpool's chances of signing the England international. The Eagles have agreed the basics of a deal to sign Ousmane Diomande, 21, from Sporting Lisbon. Portuguese outlet A Bola report that Palace have landed on a €55million (£47m) fee for the Ivorian centre-back. All that's left is to settle Diomande's sell-on clause and if things go smoothly on Palace's end, it'll open the door for Guehi to leave Selhurst Park, having entered the final year of his contract. ‌ Elliott preference emerges Harvey Elliott wants to join a Champions League club if he leaves Liverpool this summer. Elliott, 22, was named player of the tournament as England won the under-21 European Championship after he scored five goals in six games. But the midfielder's future is uncertain. The Athletic report that Liverpool would be willing to accept a fee in excess of £40m if a buy-back clause is inserted, or above £50m without one. ‌ Arsenal enter Ekitike race Arsenal have joined the race for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who's been linked with a move to Liverpool. France youth international Ekitike has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, having netted 22 goals and laid on 12 assists last season. German publication Bild claim that Arsenal have 'suddenly' turned their attention the 23-year-old as an alternative to top targets Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko. It's added that Eintracht are holding out for a bid worth between €80m and €100m (£68m and £85m). Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Arsenal's first summer signing confirmed with Spain star to follow

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined in a £5m deal from Chelsea to provide back up to David Raya with Martin Zubimendi set to follow from Real Sociedad soon Arsenal have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window with Kepa Arrizabalaga joining in a cut price £5m deal from Chelsea. And his fellow Spain international Martin Zubimendi is expected to join imminently after a deal was agreed with Real Sociedad. A move for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard is also close to completion with the Bees admitting they are 'happy' to see a key player of the Thomas Frank era move on. ‌ But Arsenal's quest to find a new centre forward to take them from second spot to the top continues with little movement around Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres. Here are the tales to keep an eye on from in and around the Emirates. ‌ Kepa official Arsenal have confirmed the £5m signing of keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Gunners have swooped for the Spain international who is set to become back-up and competition for current No1 David Raya. Arsenal have activated a £5m buy-out clause in Kepa's contract which means he leaves Chelsea for a bargain fee seven years after moving to Stamford Bridge for £71.6m which made him the most expensive keeper in the world. Kepa, 30, who has won 13 senior caps for Spain, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth but was open to the switch to Arsenal to give himself a fresh challenge. Arsenal are expected to confirm the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has agreed a £51m switch while Arsenal are still looking for a left winger and striker. Gyokeres blow Sporting Lisbon are confident of completing a €55m (£47.2m) deal with Crystal Palace for their defender Ousmane Diomande in the coming days – ensuring the Portuguese side are under even less pressure to sell coveted striker Viktor Gyokeres for a cut price. Arsenal and Manchester United have appeared at the front of the queue for Sweden star Gyokeres but Sporting have made it clear that they will not accept anything less than their £85m asking price for their top scorer. ‌ "Happy" sale Brentford's director of football Phil Giles admits he's "happy" that Christian Norgaard could be about to move to Arsenal - presenting the Dane with the chance to add silverware to his CV. The Gunners remain in talks to land the midfielder as they look to bolster their own ranks. Giles told Sky Sports: "Arsenal approached us in the last two weeks about Christian. I think it's fair to say it's more likely to happen than not. We have to go through the full process, tick all the boxes and then we'll see at the end of it. "He's been a fantastic player than us, unbelievable. I'm actually happy for him with the opportunity at this stage, 31, at this stage of his career to have an opportunity to go and try win some trophies.' Man Utd held private talks with rivals over intriguing Marcus Rashford swap move

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa in the January transfer window and his move could've resulted in another player heading in the opposite direction Manchester United held talks with Aston Villa over a potential swap deal for Ollie Watkins as Marcus Rashford came to the end of his loan spell. Rashford, 27, spent the second half of last season at Villa Park, having fallen out on favour under Ruben Amorim. The loan deal included an option for Villa to sign the United forward for £40million but it could've been very different had the swap with Watkins came to fruition. The 29-year-old was reportedly available for transfer in January, even being offered to Arsenal. ‌ According to the Athletic, United held discussions with Villa about signing Watkins at the end of the season. The Red Devils have now made a fresh enquiry separate to Rashford, who Villa won't be signing permanently. ‌ Amorim wants to sign a new striker and Watkins has emerged a target, with Rashford having returned to Old Trafford but appearing to have no future at United. Villa, meanwhile, are currently grappling with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules and it's claimed that they need to make one lucrative sale in order to avoid punishment. It's been speculated that Villa Park chiefs could follow Chelsea's example and sell their women's team in what would be a controversial move. Selling Watkins would also cause outcry, with Villa already letting one striker leave in the January transfer window before narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification. Unai Emery's side sanctioned the departure of Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr for a cool £65million. Duran's departure didn't mean that Watkins was always first-choice for Emery, though. Rashford started both of Villa's Champions League quarter-final clashes with Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Watkins 'fuming'. "I played 20 minutes against PSG in both games, so I'm not going to lie - I was fuming I wasn't playing," he told Sky Sports. "I let him (Emery) know that. He's the manager at the end of the day. I respect his decision. But I'm not one of the players happy to sit on the bench. Should Aston Villa have swapped Ollie Watkins for Marcus Rashford? Have your say in the comments section. ‌ "It's something I haven't experienced before, missing out on the biggest stage. You always want to play, especially in the Champions League. Me and a few others are disappointed we didn't start the game, but like I said, it's the manager's decision... Rather than let it hinder you, you have to use that anger as motivation." The England international would almost certainly start most games for the Red Devils, as he's significantly more Premier League-proven compared to United strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Last season, Watkins bagged 17 goals and laid on 14 assists. Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
