HK Star Louis Koo Said He Fell In Love With Penang & Prawn Mee After His First Visit
The actor was recently in town to promote his new action thriller movie, 'Behind The Shadows (私家侦探)'. For the press tour, Louis and co-stars Chrissie Chau (周秀娜) and Phei Yong (培永) visited the Megamal Pinang and Gurney Plaza malls in Penang. While the 54-year-old has visited Malaysia many times, this recent trip was his first to the northwestern state. However, Louis said it was enough for him to fall in love with Penang.
Yesterday (10th June, Tuesday), the actor updated his Weibo account to talk about his recent trip to Penang. Louis expressed awe at local fans' support, writing, 'I went to Malaysia to promote the 'Behind The Shadows' movie and attended the premiere at the Mega Cineplex in Penang. There were a lot of fans for the movie, and the scene was very lively!'. However, what caught fans' attention was his sudden proclamation of love towards the state.
Louis wrote, 'Although this was my first time in Penang, I've fallen in love with this city'. The actor specifically mentions the local delicacy, prawn noodles, saying, 'The human touch and the delicious prawn noodles here are unforgettable.' He ends his post by promising to return soon, adding that he'll remember to take more photos with fans the next time he's in town. The Weibo post garnered the attention of local fans.
In the comments section, many Malaysians thanked the star for visiting the state, noting that most press tours are limited to Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. Others also expressed joy over being able to meet Louis during the meet and greet, sharing photos of their interaction with the actor. 'In Malaysia, the Bon Odori Festival started in 1977 and has grown into an annual occasion which is one of the largest Japanese cultural events here, and possibly one of the largest Bon Odori festivals outside Japan,' said Sunway Malls chief executive officer HC Chan at a press conference. 'A total of 110,018 Japanese tourists visited Selangor in 2023 and the number increased to 132,526 last year. 'This growth not only shows the strong bilateral relationship between Selangor and Japan, but it is also a sign that Selangor is one of the favourite destinations of Japanese tourists,' Ng said. Direct flights between Pontianak, Kuching and KL to boost tourism, economic ties

Speaking at the launch of AirAsia's flight routes between Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Pontianak, held in conjunction with the Sarawak Travel Fair 2025 at Ayani Megamall here yesterday, he said the reinstated services would not only boost tourism, but also strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries. 'In addition to tourism, it will also facilitate access to educational and healthcare services in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak,' he said. Azizul added that the initiative aligns well with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, during which a wide range of tourism, education, and cultural programmes are expected to take place across the country. 'Last year alone, some 500,000 West Kalimantan residents entered Sarawak via land, while nearly 400,000 Malaysians travelled to West Kalimantan through the same means. 'This clearly demonstrates the strong tourism, education, and trade potential between Sarawak and West Kalimantan — a potential that will only grow stronger with improved flight connectivity,' he remarked. He noted that Sarawak and West Kalimantan share the longest land border between Malaysia and Indonesia, stretching approximately 900 kilometres. SMK Kunak Jaya (Team A) was the runner-up, followed by SMK Putatan in third place. SMK Bandau Kota Marudu, SMK Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu and SMK Menumbok Kuala Penyu secured fourth, fifth, and sixth places respectively. Deputy Director of Information, Supian Musa, stated that the competition aimed to foster love and pride as Malaysians, especially among school students. 'Additionally, they can learn about national art figures and personalities related to the country's development. Through this competition, they also discover the sacrifices these figures made for the nation in the struggle for independence, as well as their contributions to our country's arts and culture. With this event, students gain awareness of the dedication and services rendered by these icons,' he told the media after the judging session for the Sabah State-level National Storytelling Competition Finals here on Tuesday.
