Opposition to land pooling increases as support remains limited to AAP leadership
There are no organic voices yet from urban areas supporting the policy.
Unlike the farm protest at Shambhu border, which led to the blockade of the vital National Highway 44 for close to a year, and where there were voices from trade, industry, and urban areas for lifting the blockade, there are no such voices from urban areas speaking in support of the land pooling scheme. The crackdown on the protest at the Shambhu border helped the ruling party get support from trade and industry sectors, and this became evident during the Ludhiana West byelection.
Even when it comes to community, caste, social and economic levels, no section has yet started speaking out in support of the policy. There are quite a few videos that have been widely shared on Punjabi social media space, in which farmers have issued warnings to AAP supporters to face serious physical consequences if they come to their villages to explain the policy.
BKU (Doaba) president Manjit Singh Rai, whose land is coming under the land pooling policy in Hoshiarpur district, publicly said he would not let anybody entering his land escape unscathed.

A similar warning has been given by farmers from villages near Jalandhar.
With opposition to the policy now becoming 'political correctness' among farmers, AAP may face an uphill task in getting farmers who can publicly speak in support of the scheme.
From the govt side, along with chief minister Bhagwant Mann, ministers Aman Arora, Harpal Cheema, Hardeep Singh Mundian, Sanjeev Arora, and MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer have defended the policy.
A few office bearers have also given interviews to a few YouTube channels to defend the policy.
However, most of the MLAs or constituency in-charges, whose constituencies have areas coming under the land pooling policy, have confined themselves to sharing the party's pro-policy statements or videos, instead of giving their own statements or going to the villages whose land is covered under the scheme.
These were mainly the rural areas of Punjab which provided the greatest push to the urban-centric AAP in the 2014 parliamentart election, due to the peculiar political situation in the state. In the 2022 assembly elections, the party swept equally in rural and urban areas. Now, with farm groups, opposition parties, Punjabi activists, and netizens pushing the counter-narrative across rural Punjab, much beyond the villages whose land is coming under it, the task for AAP is getting tougher.

Hyderabad: Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma has sent the Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance to the President of India for a decision. Governor's rationale Sources indicate that the governor's decision to escalate the matter to the President stemmed from two main concerns: The state's attempt to override the 50% reservation ceiling — a threshold reaffirmed by various Supreme Court rulings — through legislative amendments and legal ambiguity over whether a state govt possesses the authority to unilaterally remove this cap without prior central approval. Given these concerns — and with the two BC reservation bills already awaiting Presidential assent — the governor chose to refer the ordinance to the President for further examination, sources said. Development works in villages have come to a grinding halt, and crucial Finance Commission funds — amounting to over ₹1,600 crore — remain frozen, as these can only be released to duly constituted local bodies. The term of existing local governing institutions expired over 18 months ago, resulting in a vacuum of leadership — no sarpanches, mandal parishad territorial constituency members, or zilla parishad territorial constituency members are in place. Cong plans next moves To push for the Centre's assent, the Congress govt has drawn up an action plan. A series of political programmes are scheduled to be held in Delhi between Aug 5 and 7. The state plans to wait until Aug 15 for a response from the Centre. If there is no progress, the govt is contemplating holding the elections with 42% BC reservations regardless of the pending assent, sources said.

"The city is known for its cultural and spiritual legacy. Lord Ram had spent over 11 years in Chitrakoot. Now the govt is making efforts to develop it into a land of faith, security and self-reliance. The govt is planning to construct a riverfront along the Yamuna to boost tourism and local employment," he said. Yogi highlighted ongoing efforts to beautify and develop key pilgrimage and educational sites in Chitrakoot like the Gramodaya University, Ashram Paddhati Vidyalaya, Valmiki Ashram and Kamadgiri. AP in a state of emergency, alleges Jagan; TDP hits back
Tirupati: Former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday alleged that Andhra Pradesh is in a "state of emergency" due to the "autocratic and undemocratic practices" of the NDA govt. The YSRCP chief, who met former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy at Nellore central prison, slammed the govt for targeting YSRCP leaders and intimidate the opposition. Criticising the TDP-led govt for booking 14 "false cases" against Kakani, he said when YSRCP activists were attacked near Kavali, Kakani held a press conference and condemned the ruling party for instigating the attacks. "TDP holds a grudge against him for that. He was immediately booked in multiple cases with the help of fake witnesses and evidences and has been confined to Nellore prison," he alleged. Jagan, who also met former Kovur legislator Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, condemned the attack on the six-time MLA's residence. She further said that despite being shunted out of power, Jagan hasn't learnt any lessons.
