Norman O'Connor, Colin Miller and a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, brazenly pinched cash from the man's pockets during the horrific burglary.
Threatening the man with a hammer, the gang of three stole his vintage Jaguar after raiding his home.
They then wrote off the vehicle, which was driving at speed with the lights switched off, in a head-on crash with a police car.
Liverpool Crown Court heard how the 76-year-old man, who has not been named, was at home alone watching television on the evening of December 20 last year.

He then "heard a loud bang" as his windows were smashed.
The three defendants then proceeded to enter the property through the broken window.
One of them brandished a hammer at the classic car collector demanding money.
Prosecutor, Helen Chenery, described how the pensioner gave them £240 from his pocket before one of the offenders took the keys to his £25,000 Jaguar from his briefcase.

All three then fled the address and sped away with the vehicle.
Just minutes later, the stolen car ploughed head-on into an unmarked police car on Heyworth Street in Everton as they were pursued by other patrols.

Two officers were in the police car at the time with the Jaguar, driven by O'Connor, said to be travelling up to 90mph prior to the collision.
The 37-year-old fled before he was detained nearby on the pavement while the 14-year-old boy was discovered in the front passenger seat with a leg injury.
Miller, meanwhile, was flung from the back seat and into the centre console.
One of the officers in the unmarked police car suffered "bruising and pain" while the other will be left with permanent scarring after a cut to his hip.
A statement from the 76-year-old Jaguar owner was read to the court which said: "Prior to the incident, I was an independent 76-year-old man who lived on his own. My home is meant to be a safe space.
"I knew, because of my age, that I was unable to fight. These males entered my home, where I'm meant to feel safe, and made me feel vulnerable and scared.
"This has affected my family greatly, to the point where they want me to relocate to Southampton to ensure that I'm safe and that nothing like this will happen again."
He went on to add that many of the motors in his classic toy car collection, which were damaged in the attack, were presents from his wife who passed away a few years ago causing him "a lot of heartache".
The robbery comes a month after O'Connor stole a £429 coat from John Lewis in Liverpool One shopping complex before he was detained in the city centre for possessing a set of bolt cutters.
He also set fire to a Vauxhall belonging to his neighbour in May 2024.
His criminal record shows 17 previous convictions for 32 offences including burglary, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.
Peter White, defending, said on O'Connor's behalf that there was "no justification" for his conduct and that the defendant told him that this period of his life was "dominated by drink and drugs".
He went on to tell the court that O'Connor's offending "massively escalated" after his long-term relationship came to an end in 2018 and he lost contact with his young son.
The court heard how O'Connor was living with his 70-year-old mother who is in poor health and his "greatest fear" is that he will not be there for her in her final days.
Miller has 40 prior convictions for 112 offences dating back to 1987 - 54 of which are theft related matters.
The 54-year-old's counsel, Brendan Carville, told the court that he has not been well and is currently awaiting test results for bowel cancer.
Carville added that Miller "bitterly regrets" his involvement and "apologises to both complainant and the court".
O'Connor admitted robbery, theft, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, theft and going equipped for theft - he has been locked up for nine years.
Miller pleaded guilty to robbery and theft and was jailed for eight years and one month.
Sentencing, Recorder Richard Pratt KC said of the 76-year-old victim: "It is clear that his independence and pride was shattered by your actions on this night.
"The only real mitigation that can be advanced on either of your behalves is the fact that you pleaded guilty."
The youth, now aged 15, was previously handed four years and seven months in youth detention.
He admitted robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a bladed article in a public place, two counts of racially aggravated assault, assault, criminal damage and possession of cannabis.
He was also found guilty of wounding with intent having repeatedly stabbed a man in the street earlier this year.

Five guilty of stabbing Leonardo Reid, 15, to death in double murder during rap video shoot after teen mistook for rival
A VIOLENT criminal due to be deported nine years ago was yesterday convicted of a double murder. The prolific criminal carried on his crime spree while appealing his deportation notice, carrying out vicious robberies and almost killing four people. He was jailed for four years in 2017 after crashing a stolen car into a group of people outside an Islington pub, leaving three men and a woman with life-threatening injuries. Read More But even then, Furtado, whose parents are from Angolan and claimed asylum in the UK three months before he was born, still avoided deportation. An immigration appeal panel ruled he was entitled to the highest 'imperative' level of protection from deportation because he had been resident in the UK for more than 10 years. He and Kosovan co-defendant Lorik Lupqi, 21, were both on electronic tags when they took part in the June 2023 murders of Leonardo and Shekaj. Lupqi fled back to Kosovo after the attacks and was extradited to the UK in November last year. Most read in The Sun His brother Dior Lupqi is already serving a life sentence for an Islington gang murder. Dior was only 15 when he stabbed Nashon Esbrand, 27, to death in August 2017 and was given a minimum 12-year tariff. It can also be reported that a third defendant convicted yesterday, Abel Chunda, 29, has 97 previous convictions for offences including robbery, assault and possessing knives. Eden Clark, 31, and Xavier Poponne, 22, were also both convicted of two counts of murder. In addition, the infamous five were convicted of attempting to murder Abdulla Abdullahi, 28, who was also stabbed in the attack. The defendants - all from North London - had fought among themselves in the dock during the 15-week trial. 10 The victims were stabbed to death when Furtado's gang attacked a group of around 40 people watching a rape video shoot Credit: BPM 10 The horror unfolded on June 29, 2023 Credit: PA 10 Five men were found guilty of murder Credit: PA Detective Inspector Jim Barry of Specialist Crime North said 'These violent men went into this estate with the intention of killing anyone they could, under the false impression that those there were rival gang members. "This was a senseless, violent act which has shattered the lives of so many, especially Leonardo and Klevi's loved ones.' The horror double murder unfolded on Thursday, 29 June 2023. There had been a large gathering on the Elthorne estate to film a rap music video, the Met Police said. Lupqi, a gang member from Islington, spotted the group at around 8:30pm. He messaged his girlfriend stating that 'opps were outside.' She urged him to stay inside, but Lupqi decided to message his close friend and gang associate Jason Furtado. They planned to meet up with three other gang members and go to the Elthorne estate. When they arrived, most people had gone, but a couple of local youngsters were still kicking about. The gang thugs then fatally stabbed 15-year-old Leonardo Reid, who sadly died at the scene and 23-year-old Klevi Shekaj who died in hospital. They also stabbed another man, who was taken to hospital. Met Police's Specialist Crime Command launched a double murder and attempted murder investigation. Enquiries found the gang had contacted each other through 50 short phone calls in the two hours leading up to the attack. After the brutal stabbing, the four went to Abel Chunda's house and called organiser Furtado. Chuna and Furtado were arrested on July 3. Clarke had fled to the Suffolk coast and tried to disguise himself, but Met Officers located and detained him on July 12. Lupqi illegally travelled to Kosovo days after the murders and told his girlfriend not to wait for him. The force worked with the Kosovan authorities, the National Crime Agency as well as the CPS, to extradite him to the UK. Officers cuffed him at Luton Airport on 12 November 2024. After Poponne's arrest in November 2023, lyrics were found in a drill song written the day after the murders. The disgusting words had glorified the murders and made references to elements of the attack which could only be known to those involved. The lyrics highlighted how Leonardo and Klevi were not involved in gang criminality. Shortly after the murders, Poponne also changed his social media name to 'X3' referencing the number of people he had stabbed. The group denied murder throughout their trial. They all appeared at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 23 July where they were all convicted of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Detective Inspector Jim Barry added: 'Our team have remained focused on getting justice for those affected by this violent and unnecessary attack. 'This dangerous group of men will now spend a long time behind bars but the effect of what they did will be felt by the victim's shattered families for longer. 'I thank the members of the public who tried to help and save the lives of those injured and have assisted our team with enquiries. 'We will continue to tackle violent offenders and ensure that justice is bought for the safety of our communities.' Sentencing was adjourned until 25 September when they will face mandatory life sentences Detective Inspector Jim Barry of Specialist Crime North said 'These violent men went into this estate with the intention of killing anyone they could, under the false impression that those there were rival gang members. Brit pilot jailed in ex-Soviet hell prison could be freed after ex-wife's ‘chilling confession to killing baby' emerges
A BRIT pilot jailed for murder in a hellhole ex-Soviet prison could be freed after his ex-wife 'confessed' to killing their baby daughter. Barakat was sentenced in 2020 after a judge ruled he But the chilling audio which has been newly uncovered could mean the commercial pilot, who flew for a subsidiary of Hong Kong Airlines, could be freed or face a retrial. Madina was the main prosecution witness at his trial in Read more about crime here Barakat received a maximum sentence under the criminal code because of the "aggravating circumstance' of committing the murder 'in a state of alcoholic and drug intoxication', said the appeal court. The country's prosecutor's office recently triggered an investigation 'on newly discovered circumstances', namely a confession by the pilot's glamorous ex-wife that she killed the baby. Detailed analysis including a 'forensic video-phonoscopy examination' reveals the confession to be Madina's voice, the pilot's legal representatives have been informed. It also found there was no tampering of the WhatsApp recording. Most read in The Sun The pilot himself recorded his ex-wife from inside his prison. 'I kill her….,' Madina is accused of posting, in evidence now being examined by police. 'I know you did,' replied the pilot, who has always maintained his innocence and previously claimed that his wife accidentally killed the child on 24 October 2019, but blamed him. Madin allegedly said on the recorded call to Barakat how she broke Sophia's neck at the hotel in Almaty. 'I left…and then when I come back, she is awake and crying because she's hungry. 'I start to feed her. And then she start to poo… 'And I try to wash her bum. And when I wash her, I break her neck…' She also told him she wanted to have another child with him. In a video made by privately-schooled Barakat, he said of her 'confession': 'Two days ago, we had another argument. 'I told her I would never have another baby with her until she told me what happened to my daughter, Sophia Barakat. 10 Barakat received a maximum sentence Credit: East2West 10 The courts ruled that Madina had been beaten by her husband Credit: East2West 10 Barakat was sentenced in 2020 after a judge ruled he smashed his "smiling" baby during a drunken drug-fuelled hotel rampage Credit: East2West 'And here you can see, she wrote 'Call me please'. 'And then, she writes 'I kill her'. In later conversations, Madina repeatedly asks him to 'forgive me'. These accounts are startlingly different from the version accepted by judges at the pilot's trial and appeal. The courts ruled that Madina had been beaten by her husband - despite no evidence she had any injuries - and left their hotel room after which he killed the child. The wife then opened the door and picked up the motionless girl, rushing down to the hotel lobby, where she was seen on security cameras. Madina had shouted: 'He killed my child, he hit her,' according to one hotel staff member. Hotel workers said the baby was 'blue'. Earlier they remembered the British girl as 'always smiling' during the family's stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in Almaty. The wife collapsed several times in the lobby as staff called medics who found the baby to be dead. 10 In later conversations, Madina repeatedly asks him to 'forgive me' Credit: East2West 10 The pilot was said by the judge to be drunk and under the influence of drugs Credit: East2West 10 Mohamed Barakat, 46, is serving a 20-year sentence Credit: East2West There are a host of other inconsistencies regarding the verdict. In turning down an appeal by the pilot, three women judges in 2021 ruled that 'the guilt of the convict [Barakat] was proved by the testimony of a witness - a hotel maid - that she heard the sounds of banging on the wall, after which the crying of the child immediately fell silent'. The judges said: 'More than ten witnesses testified that they saw the woman [Madina] with the child in her arms, who ran to the reception and reported that her drunken husband had killed her child.' Yet law enforcement broke their own rules in using photographs not the corpse to establish fatal wounds. Based on these errors, the court found Sophia died from 'multiple impacts…caused by repeated blows' - namely from Barakat banging his child's head repeatedly against the walls or doors, smashing the child's brain. The pilot was said by the judge to be drunk and under the influence of drugs yet astonishingly no drugs were found in his blood or urine, according to documents in the case. The only evidence of drug use was a toxicology test showing traces of THC in vomit from the hotel mattress, yet the centre has dismissed use of such evidence as unreliable. 'CCTV shows him walking steadily into the hotel, handing balloons to his daughter, and carrying her. Hotel staff said he did not appear drunk,' said his lawyer Din-Mukhamed Narymbetov. Additionally, Madina was the main prosecution witness based on evidence she gave in the aftermath of the killing. 'Her statements were obtained with procedural violations, and she eventually retracted them,' said the lawyer. Barakat said after obtaining his ex-wife's 'confession': 'Madina knows I am innocent. My family knows I'm innocent. The lawyers who stood with me - they know I'm innocent.' He must now wait for the Kazakh authorities to decide on the next legal steps. Asked to comment, Madina Abdullayeva said: 'I am not going to answer these questions.'
