For Summer McIntosh, a record swim and fourth gold to cap superb world championships

Summer McIntosh, the 18-year-old Canadian swimming star, rolled to victory Sunday in the women's 400-meter individual medley, setting a world-championship record and winning her fourth individual gold medal of the event. McIntosh entered the meet in Singapore hoping to equal Michael Phelps' record of five individual golds, set in 2007. She came up just a few seconds short, fading down the stretch of an incredible women's 800-meter freestyle race on Saturday and taking bronze there. Aside from Phelps, only Americans Caeleb Dressel (2019), Katie Ledecky (2015) and Ryan Lochte (2011) have ever won that many individual medals at a world championships. Australia's Jenna Forrester and Japan's Mio Narita tied for silver behind McIntosh, both finishing in 4:33.26, more than seven seconds behind. More to come

Ontario Reign Sign Parker Berge To One-Year Extension

The Ontario Reign have re-signed defenseman Parker Berge to a one-year deal, it was announced earlier this week. A product of Edmonton, Alta., Berge split the 2024-25 season between the ECHL's Greenville Swamp Rabbits and the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. Across a combined 57 regular season games, he scored six goals and added 35 assists for 41 points. Prior to making the move to the pro game last fall, Berge played his junior hockey in the WHL for the Regina Pats and the Everett Silvertips. Over 213 career regular season games, he collected 18 goals and 82 assists for 100 points. With Berge extending with the Reign, he stands a good chance of making his AHL debut in 2025-26. A smart, skilled defender who knows how to exploit lanes in the offensive zone, Berge made his presence known in his rookie pro season and will only continue to get better.
