Thousands turn up for mega e-khata mela, 677 get documents on the spot
BENGALURU: During the e-khata Mela and door-to-door e-khata distribution programme organised by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the revenue department in Byatarayanapura on Sunday, over 4,000 tokens were distributed and 1,679 applications were processed, of which 677 applicants received their final e-Khatas on the spot.
With more citizens still awaiting service, the mela will continue on Monday (June 30).
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar stressed the government's commitment to clean governance. 'No citizen should have to pay a bribe to obtain their property records. This government has come to your doorstep to protect your property,' he said. Highlighting the importance of digitisation, he stated that property records across BBMP limits are being scanned and corrected. 'Just like Aadhaar gives a unique identity to individuals, we will assign a unique identifier to every property,' he added.
Shivakumar also announced that the e-khata campaign will run throughout July, covering all BBMP wards. 'Get your e-khata and protect your property from fraud. Officers and workers will assist you,' he told people.
As thousands turned up at the mega e-khata mela, many citizens faced difficulties due to long queues, delays in processing and some not bringing the required documents. Several applicants had to return without completing the registration as they were unaware of the specific papers needed for the e-Khata process.
A property owner complained about the time taken for the registration. 'It has almost been an hour now and I am still waiting because they said that there is some problem with the server,' he said.

Earlier on Sunday, Karnataka Minister KN Rajanna stated that several political developments were expected to take place in the state and at the national level after September. 'As far as Karnataka and national politics are concerned, there will be a lot of political changes expected after September. But, we people in Karnataka think of only this chief ministership, the presidency and the cabinet reshuffle. But at the national level, it is also evident that those who are 75 years of age are not entitled to hold public office. That is the dictum that is the policy of the BJP and the RSS,' the Minister told ANI. Rajanna stated that since there was a demand for a reshuffle in the Karnataka Congress party, several people were aspiring to become ministers. 'In the Karnataka Congress party and the government, there is also a demand for a reshuffle first, so many people are aspiring to become ministers. Many people have their agendas. All those agendas will be coming into force, and those will take shape after September,' he further added. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday asserted that the Congress government in the state will remain "as solid as a rock" for five years and maintained that he and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar share good terms. He also hit out at BJP leaders for claiming he would not inaugurate the world-famous Mysuru Dasara celebrations this year, calling them "experts in lying." These remarks come amid renewed speculation about a possible leadership change in Karnataka later this year. "This government will be as solid as a 'bande' (rock) for five years," Siddaramaiah told reporters, with Shivakumar-often referred to as 'bande' by his supporters-by his side. Asked whether he and Shivakumar were on good terms, Siddaramaiah replied, "We are on good terms". He then held and raised Shivakumar's hand as a sign of unity. Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar present united front amid renewed buzz on change of guard in Karnataka
A day after Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain fuelled speculations about a change of guard in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar presented a united front in Mysuru Monday, ruling out a 'revolution' in the government in the next two months. 'This government will be secure as a bande (boulder) for five years,' the chief minister told reporters, before raising Shivakumar's hand in front of TV cameras. Bande, incidentally, is a moniker for Shivakumar, who is referred to as 'Kanakapurada Bande' – Kanakapura being the constituency he represents. The gesture came amid renewed speculations of Shivakumar replacing him in the top post. Responding to questions in this regard, Siddaramaiah said, 'BJP leaders are experts in telling lies. He and I are on good terms.' The two leaders were in Mysuru to offer 'Bagina' to the Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir, located near Srirangapatna in Mandya district. The Bagina ritual involves offering a saree, flowers, fruits, bangles, turmeric-vermilion (arishina-kumkuma), and rice placed on a bamboo tray. As per a purported 'seat-sharing' formula, under which Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were to hold power for two and a half years each, the former is supposed to step down this year. There has, however, never been any official confirmation on this. On Sunday, MLA Hussain had triggered speculations with his reaction to claims made by Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna last week that a 'revolution' would take place in Karnataka politics after September. Though Rajanna clarified later that he was referring to changes in all parties after September, Hussain said that it was in reference to the leadership transition in the Karnataka Congress government. 'I am confident that the (Congress) high command will take the right decision at the right time and give him (Shivakumar) an opportunity…. The 'revolution' they are talking about is the same thing. Everything will be decided in two to three months,' he said. Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru on Monday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao objected to Rajanna's comment and the subsequent remarks by Hussain. 'The use of words such as 'revolution' is not right. In the same way, such statements (by the MLA) only cause unnecessary confusion. This is neither good for our government, nor the party,' he said.
