Small town dad kills family of 4 in Mother's Day weekend murder-suicide hours before son's graduation: police
The wife of a Nebraska man who is suspected of killing his entire family of four in a murder-suicide pleaded for support for her husband's mental health online just days before she and her two sons were murdered, according to a report.
Jeremy Koch, 42, stabbed and killed his wife Bailey, 41, and sons Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16, before killing himself in their rural Dawson County home, Nebraska State Patrol confirmed Saturday.
Hudson was scheduled to graduate from high school on Saturday, just hours after the family was found dead, according to News Channel Nebraska.

The outlet reported on a now-removed GoFundMe page Bailey began earlier this month called "Jeremy's Battle: Mental Health Support Needed."

"May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so here we are... making you aware," Bailey reportedly wrote.
She said Jeremy first attempted suicide in 2009 and had tried to take his life multiple times.

Last year, according to Bailey, Jeremy's depression reached a fever pitch.
"Jeremy cannot get out of bed unless forced," she wrote. "By not eating or drinking, Jeremy is slowly completing suicide."
She reportedly wrote that the family's income, which came from a local landscaping business Jeremy owned, had dried up.
In March, Bailey said she woke up to Jeremy standing over her with a knife but talked him down and convinced him to get inpatient mental health care. That was the fourth time Jeremy had been hospitalized for his mental health struggles, according to the report.
She said a round of electroconvulsive therapy did not help her husband.
"It didn't work. Jeremy became a shell of himself."
"I have no pride left," she wrote at the time. "Mental illness is taking my husband from me, and I'm begging you to open your eyes and see the reality that is this society's mental health crisis."
However, Bailey reportedly said on the GoFundMe that Jeremy had been released from the hospital last week to attend Hudson's graduation.
Bailey worked as a special education teacher at Holdrege Public Schools.
"Our Holdrege school community is grieving after a tragic event that has deeply affected us all," the district reportedly said Saturday. Security staff were the first to approach the man and talk to him before police took over. After almost three hours, the man was eventually talked down and "detained for his own safety". In a statement, a spokesperson for the police said: "Police received a concern for safety report for a man aged in 30s on the East Cliff of Whitby at 3.46pm on Sunday (3 August 2025). "Security staff initially talked to the man and then police officers attended the scene along with paramedics, the fire service, and the coastguard as a precaution. A beloved cyclist was allegedly stabbed to death by a knife-wielding madman after heroically stepping in to protect a mother and her children who were being harassed at a California train station. Colden Kimber, 28, was waiting at a Muni stop in San Francisco with his girlfriend on July 26 when a ranting lunatic approached a terrified family and hurled unhinged threats that prompted the 6-foot-4 New York native to courageously intervene, according to court documents obtained by KGO. 'Oh, you think you are better than me,' alleged assailant Sean Collins, 29, screamed at the mother and her two children at the Ingleside transit hub, adding, 'You are scared of me.' 5 Colden Kimber, 28, was killed on July 26 when a knife-wielding madman allegedly stabbed him in the neck. That is, until one got too close for comfort, winding up trapped between her camera and face. When she screamed in terror, an unknown part of the bat wound up in her mouth for a few seconds. Her father, a physician who had been traveling with her, said she should immediately start a course of rabies treatments, even though she wasn't sure if she had been bitten. She quickly went online to purchase a medical insurance plan before going to a hospital in Flagstaff to begin treatments — under the impression it would cover her two-week course of rabies shots, which she received at clinics in Arizona, Massachusetts and Colorado, KFF reported. But her biggest shock of all came when the bill arrived, showing she owed $20,749 between the four facilities — for treatment including four doses of the rabies vaccines and three shots of immunoglobulin to increase antibodies against the virus, which is fatal if left untreated. 3 Bats account for around 33% of the 4,000 animal rabies cases reported in the US each year. If left untreated, the rabies virus is fatal to humans. 'I guess I was naive.' 3 Khan had been traveling with her father, a physician, who urged her to seek out rabies treatments after a bat flew into her mouth while she was taking pictures at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Arizona. GoFundMe After being laid off from her engineer position the previous month, she opted against keeping her insurance under COBRA for $650 a month, rolling the dice she would not wind up facing an unexpected medical emergency. Khan told the outlet she's since gotten a new job and once again has health insurance. She's negotiated some of the bills down a bit, but says she still owed more than $19,000 for her treatments — which she said she plans to continue appealing. Despite her horrifying encounter with wildlife — ripped from the stuff of nightmares — Khan said it hasn't put a damper on her love for the great outdoors. 'I know what bats taste like now. It's an earthy, sweet kind of flavor,' she joked to the outlet. 'It's actually a pretty funny story — if it weren't for the horrible medical bill that came with it.' Around 4,000 animal rabies cases are reported each year in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — with less than 10 people dying of the virus per annum. More than 90% occur in animals like skunks, raccoons, foxes and bats. Bats account for the highest proportion of reported animal rabies cases, at 33%.
