Sacha on missed kicks: 'Off target, not off track'

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has reacted to criticism of his performance in the Springboks game against Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 19 July.
The flyhalf came under fire after missing a series of crucial penalty kicks.
Last year, Sacha was inducted into the national rugby team and has made nine test match appearances.
In an Instagram post, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu directly responded to criticism of his missed penalty kicks.
Posting a series of pics from Saturday's game, he shared: 'Off target — Not off track. Great experience out in Nelspruit! Thank you, South Africa.'
On social media, rugby fans claimed that Sacha had gotten off lightly as compared to fellow flyhalf Manie Libbok, who has often been criticised over his performances.
Meanwhile, Rassie Erasmus has conceded that while Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu 'made the most errors', he was 'pleased' with his performance.
In a post-match briefing, the Springbok coach said: 'Sacha is not necessarily the first choice. Number ten, we have Manie, who is pretty much on song, and we saw with Handre when he came on that he is pretty solid.
'You can't just look at his goal kicking. He struggled before doing pretty well, but in the warm-up he got a hip pointer injury and we weren't quite sure if we should push him through the game. But he wanted to play, but that's not an excuse for the way he kicked at poles.
Rassie added: 'We are pleased overall, it's his second start for us this year and he is younger than the other fly-halves.'

Boland mourns player's tragic death after club rugby game

The Boland Rugby Union has expressed heartbreak over the passing of James Jonas, a Kleinmond RFC player who died on Saturday, 26 July. Jonas, 44, collapsed after playing for Kleinmond against his hometown team, Genadendal RFC, in a regional fixture in the Overberg. The first team match between the two clubs was immediately cancelled out of respect for Jonas and his grieving family. A beloved figure in Boland club rugby, Jonas was known for his deep connection to both Kleinmond and Genadendal communities. He attended school in Genadendal before representing Kleinmond with unwavering loyalty throughout his playing career. Jonas' – whose wife and two children were present at the ground on Saturday – sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the Boland rugby landscape, uniting rival communities in shared grief and remembrance. The Boland Rugby Union extended condolences to Jonas's family, his teammates, and the communities of Kleinmond and Genadendal. The union's president Bennie van Rooi said Jonas left a lasting legacy. 'Our hearts are heavy over the loss of one of our own,' Van Rooi said in a statement released Saturday afternoon. 'We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family, and all who loved him. May they find comfort in his legacy and the memory of his unwavering spirit.' Kleinmond RFC chairman Basil Swartz described Jonas as a humble, loyal man who gave everything every time he wore the club's jersey. 'James was a true rugby player,' said Swartz. 'He leaves behind a void that will be difficult for anyone to fill.' 'Our club mourns together with his family and our rugby brothers from Genadendal. We will remember him as a man of integrity, dedication, and true sportsmanship. Support is being offered to those affected, and a memorial is expected to be planned by the club and local union. Lions maul Sharks in dominant Currie Cup opener

The Lions scored seven tries to crush the Sharks 46-5 at Ellis Park, avenging last year's Currie Cup final defeat. Jarod Cairns crossed early to open the scoring before Rabz Maxwane finished off a slick move sparked by Angelo Davids' break. Nico Steyn chipped crossfield for Maxwane to gather and score, giving the Lions a well-earned 10-0 lead inside 20 minutes. The Sharks lacked cohesion and discipline, with winger Phiko Sobahle receiving a yellow card for a deliberate knockdown near halftime. That infringement gifted the Lions a penalty try and a numerical advantage just before the break at a buzzing Ellis Park. Maxwane made full use of the extra space to bag his second try, pushing the Lions into a commanding 24-0 lead. Sobahle prepared to return from the bin when Jean Smith was shown yellow, reducing the Sharks to 14 men again early on. Lions debutant Angelo Davids took immediate advantage, slicing through the broken defence for a well-taken try in front of the home fans. The Sharks struggled to exit their own half and made little headway against a physically dominant Lions pack and lively backline. While Sobahle finally crossed for a late consolation try, the game had long since drifted beyond the visitors' reach in Johannesburg. Rynhardt Jonker burst through the midfield to score before Layton Horn dotted down soon after to compound the Sharks' misery. The Lions showed superior structure, finishing ability and composure as they exacted revenge for last season's heartbreaking Currie Cup final loss. With confidence high, the Lions now shift focus to a testing home fixture against Western Province at Ellis Park next Saturday.
