MLA seeks Central Ministers support to boost devpt
Tirupati: SrikalahasthiMLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy met several Union Ministers on the sidelines of the International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, pressing for key developmental initiatives in his constituency.
During the event, the MLA called on Union Ministers Prataprao Jadhav, K Ram Mohan Naidu and Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar and Anakapalli MP CM Ramesh.
He discussed critical infrastructure upgrades, improved healthcare access, and tourism promotion—especially around the historic Srikalahasthi temple.
The MLA sought Central support for road connectivity, drinking water supply, and wellness tourism under AYUSH schemes.
He emphasised Srikalahasthi's potential as a spiritual and health tourism hub and requested expedited assistance to meet growing regional demands.
Expressing gratitude for the encouraging response, Sudhir Reddy assured close follow-up on proposals.

July 1 is observed as National Doctor's Day to commemorate Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned doctor who also served as the West Bengal Chief Minister, and whose birth and death anniversary fall on this day. Dr Roy was in 1961 awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine and public service. This day, established in 1991 by the Government of India to honour him, is also dedicated to honouring the tireless dedication, compassion, and relentless efforts of its medical professionals. Acknowledging the role that the doctors play, PM Modi referred to their contribution in his 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme, 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday. He said that on the 1st of July, the country honours two very important professions -- Doctors and Chartered Accountants (CAs). "Both of these are such pillars of society, which make our lives better. Doctors are the protectors of our health, and the CAs are the guides of economic life," the PM said. Last year, PM Modi had said the government was fully committed to improving the healthcare infrastructure in India and also ensuring that doctors get their deserved respect. Union Health Minister also extended his wishes on the day. He said," On National Doctor's Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all doctors for their selfless service to humanity. Their round-the-clock dedication brings hope and saves countless lives every single day. Prioritise mental health for a developed India: Tripura Guv
Vijayawada: Tripura Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy stressed the importance of mental health as essential to the nation's progress while inaugurating the Clinical Psychology and Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) courses at Indlas Hospitals here on Monday. Speaking at the event, Indrasena Reddy stated that the vision of a Viksita Bharat (Developed India) is incomplete without ensuring the mental well-being of its citizens. Along with medical and health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, he handed over admission letters to students of the newly-launched courses. He also pointed out India's growing reputation as a global healthcare hub attracting patients even from developed countries due to quality and affordable treatment. However, he called for an end to the social stigma surrounding mental illness, urging society to treat mental disorders like any other health issue. Minister Satya Kumar Yadav praised Indlas Hospitals for initiating the advanced mental health courses to address the growing demand for professionals in this sector. Citing national data, he said nearly 80 per cent of people in India experience some form of mental health challenge, while Andhra Pradesh alone records a prevalence of 76.22 per cent. He called on the film industry to refrain from misrepresenting mental health professionals and appealed for empathy and respect toward those undergoing treatment. He further said there is a need for at least three psychiatrists per one lakh population and shared that the Central government had allocated Rs 1,100 crore towards mental health in the current financial year. The minister also announced the upcoming launch of a Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Visakhapatnam, modelled after NIMHANS, Bengaluru. An expert committee led by Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy will be formed to drive innovation in the field. The event featured the unveiling of course brochures and concluded with minister Yadav felicitating Governor Indrasena Reddy with a Dharmavaram silk shawl and a copy of his book 'Satyakalam'. Key dignitaries present included Dr P Chandrasekhar, vice-chancellor of Dr NTR Health University, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, registrar Dr V Radhika Reddy, and Dr G Samaram.
