Aberdeen author Nan Shepherd's former home on the market for £490,000

This beautiful house in Cults was once home to the late Aberdeen author Nan Shepherd.
While living at Dunvegan, she penned her most celebrated work, The Living Mountain, alongside her various novels and poetry.
For the last 24 years, it has been home to Gráinne Cullen, Dan Ryan, and their family.
It still retains many period features today, including high ceilings, bay windows, traditional fireplaces, and moulded ceiling cornices in some rooms.
The 'quirky charm and individual character' initially drew the couple to the five-bedroom house.
But they soon realised the location on North Deeside Road suited them both.
Gráinne grew up in a big city, while Dan's childhood was spent on a farm, and this house offered both a gateway to Royal Deeside while only being 20 minutes from the city centre.
A wrought iron garden gate leads directly to the Old Deeside Railway Line and the 'great outdoors'. Meanwhile, on the other side of the house is a direct road and bus route to the city centre.
The short walk to Cults primary and secondary schools was another plus when raising their three children.
But now that their kids have 'flown the nest', the retired couple has decided it's time for them to downsize and they have put their home on the market.
The Victorian house, which dates back to 1875, is striking to look at from the outside, bolstered by beautifully maintained gardens.
While the many shrubs and trees provide a haven for wildlife, they also give the property some privacy.
There is a fruit garden filled with redcurrants, raspberries, gooseberries, rhubarb and apple trees – perfect for anyone with green fingers to take on.
'We've so enjoyed our gardens, the stunning views and the double garage which has provided space for our various hobbies, and those of our children, over the years,' Gráinne added.
The inside of the Victorian property is just as impressive.
While the elegant lounge is cosy, thanks to the traditional fireplace and slate hearth, the large bay windows and ceiling cornices brighten up the space.
And the well-appointed family/dining room is designed for entertaining guests or enjoying a family meal.
'The open plan living areas blend seamlessly with the Victorian character of the property,' says Gráinne.
Meanwhile, the bright and airy dining kitchen is well equipped, with a gas hob and double oven which is perfect for whipping up family feasts.
Gráinne and Dan added a kitchen and utility room extension in 2009, which they say has brought space and light into the back of the house.
Other key features include a cloakroom with mosaic splashback tiling and a stained glass window plus a store that has part-glazed double doors leading through to a porch.
But one of the more striking features is the conservatory, complete with French doors leading out to the front garden.
Not only does this bright and colourful spot provide stunning views, but it is also home to a 94-year-old grape vine.
Gráinne says they will miss their annual grape harvest when they move from their North Deeside Road home.
'Not only is the fruit delicious, but we have never grown tired of the spectacle of the vine laden with fruit,' she added.
'We've spent many memorable summer evenings with friends, sitting in our conservatory under the grapevine, sharing a meal and enjoying the magnificent views in the long twilight.'
Ideal for growing families, this home has five generously sized bedrooms on the upper floor.
The bedrooms either feature bespoke furniture or built-in wardrobes, meaning space and storage are no issue.
And they all have beautiful views, with two rooms overlooking Lower Deeside.
There's a family bathroom complete with a roll top corner bath with an overhead shower, as well as a separate shower room – perfect for a busy household.
And there's even another room on the ground floor currently used as an office, but could be transformed into a sixth bedroom if required.
'It's a wonderful family home, suitable for anyone who would like to work from home,' Gráinne says.
Dunvegan, 503 North Deeside Road, Aberdeen is on the market for offers over £490,000.

David Beckham hugs Harper and Victoria on superyacht amid stormy family feud

For months, rumours have rumbled of a bitter split within the Beckham family - but proud dad David looked happy as a clam as he hugged his daughter and wife on a luxury holiday David Beckham looked in good spirits on the high seas as he hugged his daughter and wife during a trip to St Tropez. The 50-year-old sporting legend joined wife Victoria, 51, and daughter Harper Seven, 14, on the deck of a luxury yacht. ‌ The sport star looked casual in a sand coloured cap and dark t-shirt - and with a smile stretched across his face. Victoria pouted alongside her husband with her hair loose around her shoulders. ‌ While teenage daughter Harper looked pretty in a pink as she wrapped up in a casual hooded top. The trio were spied on the deck of the boat lined up for a photograph together. ‌ The famous family are known for heading to the south of France to enjoy a summer break year after year. And they were joined by second son, Romeo, 22 - who reportedly spent the afternoon zipping around the sea on a jet ski. Father, daughter and wife posed and smiled for the cameras as their boat - worth a reported £16 million - bobbed gently on the Mediterranean waters. The Daily Mail shared the sun-soaked snaps which made the family look like they had not a care in the world while enjoying the picturesque French weather. ‌ The calm image is in contrast to the stormy headlines that have haunted the Beckham family in recent months. A feud is said to have erupted between the family and eldest son Brookyln - who is married to American Billionaire heiress Nicola Peltz. Fans became concerned for the Beckhams after they noticed Brooklyn and his wife snubbed David during his 50th birthday celebrations in May. In subsequent months, there have been reports that Brooklyn and Nicola have clashed with his younger brothers - while other reports have suggested the family have been at odds since Nicola and her husband got married in 2022. There have also been shady comments and social media quips that have left fans reading into the smallest details for evidence of a feud. ‌ On Saturday, social media posts featuring Romeo and his younger sister Harper hinted they were glad to be in the sun and away from feud-fuelled headlines. The duo were spotted heading out for dinner in St Tropez and both cut casual appearances. Romeo was pictured wearing a red baseball cap, teamed with a round neck white sweater. ‌ Meanwhile Harper opted for a white hoodie with the word "Seven" emblazoned across the front of it. Both looked in high spirits as they enjoyed an evening out with their parents. While Vicky, Dave and their kids have been lapping up the sun in France, estranged son Brooklyn has been spotted in the UK - far from his Hollywood home. The couple took a leisurely stroll through a picturesque garden where they were spied by fans. Nicola took a candid photo of her husband by a quaint garden well, while they both opted for casual outfits for their trip. One sweet photo shows Brooklyn kissing Nicola as they pose in front of a mirror. Fans noted, however, that the couple enjoyed time in the UK while the rest of the Beckham family were abroad - raising speculation they may have coordinated their trip to avoid a run in.

Luxury fragrance brand launches £62 ‘Aperol spritz' perfume that smells like summer weekends

If you've been looking for the perfect summer scent, you're in luck as Maison Margiela's REPLICA has launched a new 'Aperol spritz' fragrance that's been hailed as 'summer in a bottle' With balmy evenings, blue skies, and sunshine-filled mornings, summer is (hopefully) here to stay. And now that the warm weather is mostly settling in, there's no better time to treat yourself to a new scent. So if you're on the hunt for a new fragrance to match your mood, Maison Margiela's REPLICA has just launched what might be its most summery scent yet. The French luxury fashion house introduced its first fragrance, Untitled, in 2010, and has since built a cult following with its genderless perfumes and home scents. By 2012, the iconic REPLICA line was born, designed to capture nostalgic moments and feelings through scent. From By the Fireplace to Lazy Sunday Morning, each fragrance is intended to reproduce a familiar scent. And now, Never Ending Summer is here with that golden hour, Aperol-sipping, Italian coastline vibe. With spicy citrus notes and a gorgeous sunset orange shade, this could easily become your new favourite scent of the season. The top notes include spritz accord, bitter orange, and pepper duet, with the base notes of patchouli, cedarwood, and vetiver bringing an earth element to the Mediterranean citrus smells. The overwhelming reviews all agreed that this scent is 'summer in a bottle' or the 'perfect summer scent'. One shopper praised: "Summer in a bottle. Maison Margiela's Never Ending Summer Eau de Toilette is sunshine in scent form! It opens with a burst of citrus and warm, sun-kissed notes that instantly lift my mood. Light, fresh, and effortless, it lingers beautifully without being overpowering. It truly captures that carefree, golden-hour vibe. Perfect for daily wear or a summer getaway, this fragrance feels like a warm embrace from a perfect day. A second added: "So summery. I purchased this a gift for a friend who was spending her honeymoon in the Amalfi Coast. She wears it all the time now and it smells so good on her. It is very citrusy and fresh - perfect for summer and my friend says it reminds her so much of being on the Amalfi Coast." However, a couple did note that the lasting power is not as long as it should be for the price. A reviewer said: "Summer in a bottle but doesn't last long enough. I got to try this in store today. It's such a refreshing citrus scent, perfectly balanced not too sweet nor sharp or sour. My only complaint is that it didn't last, and I could hardly smell the zesty notes on my jacket after two hours; it just left with a faint mossy scent. If you're looking to test out the Replica fragrance before purchasing, the Maison Margiela Replica Memory Box is £36 and allows you to sample 10 different mini fragrances. While the Kayali Discovery Sampler Set is currently £18.65 at Beauty Bay.

Couple's Victorian home renovation is nearly perfect but one detail 'ruins' it

A couple who decided to transform their semi-detached Victorian property have been praised for their "beautiful" renovation - but some social media users can't get past one "offensive" detail A couple nearing the end of their meticulous restoration of a 1901 semi-detached Victorian home have been lauded for their "beautiful" decor choices. However, a small aspect of their renovation has drawn criticism for marring the otherwise sympathetic and traditional aesthetic. ‌ Tackling a home renovation is no mean feat; it's often expensive, disruptive, and laborious. Yet, once the dust settles, the fruits of such labour are usually worth it, providing a stunning, safe haven that perfectly suits the owner's tastes. ‌ While some proud homeowners take to social media to share their home refurbishment, others prefer to watch these transformations from afar, in the comfort of a dust-free environment. ‌ The pair behind @a. have shared their home renovation journey on TikTok, attracting a number of views thanks to their step-by-step process. They've managed to retain original features like the classic Minton floor tiles in the entrance hall, while also updating the property to be more energy-efficient, all without sacrificing its inherent period charm. In a recent post on the video-sharing platform, they offered followers an updated house tour, revealing six completed rooms with just two left to finish. The caption of the video read: "Updated house tour! 6 rooms completed; 2 to go", followed by a rundown of the specific paint colours and brands they've chosen for each room. The calming palette of blues and neutrals in the ground floor space generates an ambience that feels fresh, crisp and inviting. Across the dwelling, there are numerous nods to the home's Victorian roots through ornate fireplaces and period wall panelling, expertly merged with contemporary touches like bold statement artwork and signage. ‌ Yet, one particular element has sparked quite the debate amongst interior design fans on TikTok. Positioned at the far end of the kitchen sits a handy downstairs loo, distinguished by a bold black and white plaque declaring 'the shi**er'. In the comments beneath the clip, one observer penned: "Everything was absolutely perfect except the toilet door sign". The original content creators and property owners hit back with: "Not everything is to everyone's taste! We love it". ‌ Another remark stated: "Your house is stunning I don't like that loo sign tho". However, another TikTok user seemed baffled by the fierce backlash over the signage. They commented: "People so pressed over a toilet sign". Other social media viewers found the cheeky lavatory label rather entertaining. One fan remarked: "Well done, it's beautiful, still laughing at the sign above the toilet door downstairs". Praise for the property extended well beyond the divisive door decoration. One TikTok user gushed: "Beautiful home". Fellow users voiced their appreciation, with remarks including: "Beautiful and very tasteful" and: "What a fabulous transformation well done!" Another user heaped on the accolades, exclaiming: "Absolutely beautiful! A renovation done sympathetically and well! Best I've seen!"
