Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith signs somewhat surprising NIL shoe deal

USA Today2 days ago
Shoe allegiances can run almost as deep as a favorite college football program. When you can marry the two together, perhaps in charge of marketing may have something special.
That appears to be the case with Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith and Adidas, because according to a social media post on Tuesday, it appears as though Smith has signed an NIL deal with the popular sports apparel company based in Germany. And if you are like many of us, the fact that it's not with Nike (the apparel company that sponsors Ohio State) might be a little suprising.
But hey, this is what NIL is for, right? Athletes are able to enter their own partnerships with companies to take advantage of their star power, and kudos to Adidas for recognizing what Smith can be for them as a public figure and spokesperson. Of course, we don't know the terms of the deal and probably never will, but if you are a Smith and Ohio State fan, now you have conflicting priorities.
One has to wonder what kind of cleats Smith will be wearing when he runs out of the tunnel on Aug. 30. Somewhere, there has to be contract language that spells out how this whole thing is going to work. And maybe, just maybe, down the line we'll get to see some Jeremiah Smith Adidas cleats we can all get our hands on.

Another major commit coming? Alabama among finalists for elite 2026 in-state edge rusher

A program with an extensive amount of momentum on the recruiting trail at the moment, could yet another major commitment be coming for the Alabama Crimson Tide? Yes, on Thursday afternoon, Alabama was named among the finalists for another one of the nation's elite recruits, this time coming from in-state in highly-touted edge rusher Anthony "Tank" Jones. Per a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Jones has narrowed down his list of finalists to three, listing the Crimson Tide alongside both Oregon and Texas A&M. According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Jones is currently considered as the nation's No. 16 overall prospect in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 3 edge rusher nationally. A five-star prospect, Jones is also ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the state of Alabama where he attends St. Paul's Episcopal School. Alabama's 2026 class currently ranks No. 6 nationally, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings, with 17 total commitments, three of which are five-star prospects. The most recent of those came this past Wednesday when wide receiver Cederian Morgan committed to the Crimson Tide. ESPN writer picks Chiefs RB Brashard Smith as the biggest surprise heading into 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs selected running back Brashard Smith in the seventh round of this year's NFL Draft. ESPN's Adam Teicher recently wrote an article identifying the Chiefs' biggest surprise player as Smith, going into the new season. "Judging from how he was utilized in offseason practices, the Chiefs have plans for Smith, a seventh-round draft pick out of SMU," wrote Teicher. "Smith was a wide receiver in college before moving to running back for his final season, and the Chiefs showcased his versatility by getting him the ball out of the backfield, from the slot, and split out wide. Smith ran a 4.39 40 at the combine, so he will fit in with a group of other fast skill players, including Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, and Elijah Mitchell." Smith earned Third-team Associated Press All-American All-Purpose and First-team All-ACC honors in his final college season with SMU. He led the team with 1,332 rushing yards on 235 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns. The former wide receiver brings versatility to the position and could have an impact similar to that of the current starter and former seventh-round draft pick, Isiah Pacheco.
