Teen Doesn't Want to Go on Fancy Cruise with His Mom's New Boyfriend and the Man's Entire Family: ‘Torture Trip'
Venting about the situation on Reddit, he said the cruise will have 'fancy dinners'
'My mom told me I have to come along with them every time and have to wear a tuxedo,' he saidA teenage boy is not on the same boat as his mom when it comes to whether he should go on a cruise with her, her boyfriend and the man's family.
The 14-year-old boy explained on Reddit's 'Am I the A------' forum that while he's 'glad my mom's happy' with her new boyfriend, he doesn't want to be 'stuck' on a ship with him and his relatives on the 16-day cruise.
'I need some help here,' he began. 'My mom divorced my dad a while ago and she's been dating this new guy for a few months now. He's alright, I don't have a problem with him.'
'His family must be quite wealthy, his parents have a huge house, his dad drives a Porsche and so on,' he continued. 'They invited us to come on this cruise this summer, and they're paying for the whole thing for us.'
Although he admitted that the trip 'sounds cool,' he feels 'weird' about hanging out with all of those people, none of whom are his age.
'I found out that there will be these fancy dinners and events every three days, and my mom told me I have to come along with them every time and have to wear a tuxedo because 'we're part of the family now' and all the other men will wear one,' the teen wrote of his mom's expectations.
'That's when I said, 'Wait, what?' I hate formal clothes. I've always hated shirts and suits and this crap, and my mom knows this,' he added. 'I told her. 'That's enough, not gonna do that,' and she just got mad and said I'm being ungrateful and difficult and I would embarrass us in front of them.'
The boy elaborated on why he isn't in the mood to 'play along.'

'The idea of being stuck in a suit or tuxedo or whatever the difference is for 5 to 6 hours every few days to sit through dinner and then opera singers or some crap like this afterward sounds like absolute torture to me,' he said. 'It's my vacation. I don't want to feel miserable and uncomfortable.'
The son then confessed that he just wants to 'hide' because right now is his 'last chance to avoid this torture trip.'
Seeking validation about his complaints, the teen asked Redditors, 'Am I the a------ for not wanting to go on this trip?'
Many people, envious or not, encouraged him to go on this trip.
'[Not the a------] for not wanting to go, but I think you should suck it up and go,' one person replied. 'Cruise ships are huge, so there will be plenty of chances for you to have alone time and go off and do your own thing.'
The Redditor added, 'Put on your tux, smile, eat fast but with good manners, then politely excuse yourself and go back to your room. A 16 day cruise is a huge opportunity to travel and experience some luxury.'

Caitlyn Jenner 'numb with shock' over death of Sophia Hutchins
Caitlyn Jenner is "numb with shock" over the shock death of her longtime friend and manager Sophia Hutchins. Sophia, 29, is believed to have collided with a car while riding an all-terrain vehicle on a road close to Caitlyn's property in Malibu, California last week, before the ATV plummeted into a ravine. A source told "Caitlyn is numb with shock. She is absolutely devastated and can't believe what's happened. Sophia was a big part of her life." TMZ previously reported that emergency services were called, but Sophia was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else is believed to have been injured in the accident. Sophia took over managing Caitlyn's career in 2017 following the reality star's divorce from Kris Jenner. She appeared in her reality show I am Cait and even lived with the star at her Malibu home. She explained the career move in an interview with the New York Times in 2019, insisting she just wanted to protect her friend at a vulnerable time in her life. Sophia told the publication: "I saw nobody was managing her, and there were all these people taking massive advantage. "And I was saying: 'Caitlyn, if I don't step in here and start managing you, you're going to go broke'." She added of their relationship: "Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship." The pair became so close, they were forced to deny speculation they were romantically involved. Sophia is believed to have maintained a good relationship with Caitlyn's ex-wife Kris and daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, while she also appeared in a campaign for SKIMS - the clothing brand run by Caitlyn's stepdaughter Kim Kardashian.

NFL Fans Loving Annie Agar's Fourth Of July Swimsuit
NFL Fans Loving Annie Agar's Fourth Of July Swimsuit originally appeared on The Spun. Social media influencer Annie Agar went all out for the Fourth of July this year. Agar, an NFL correspondent for Chicago Sports Network, has built a loyal following on Instagram, TikTok and X over the past few years. Fans love when she does her weekly recaps during the season. She goes out of her way to mock the NFC North since she's a diehard fan of the Green Bay Packers. Prior to the 2025 NFL Draft, fans were truly worried about Agar because she was sporting a black eye. It turns out she fainted in her bathroom. "Guys, I'm OK. Thank you all for asking," Agar said. "Just in an extreme amounts of pain in my eyebrow and probably concussed. So other than that, everything's fine. The story is not that exciting. I drove home from St. Louis from my speech. I felt very dehydrated. I woke up the next day, felt super nauseous when I got up, walked to the bathroom and just passed out. I don't remember falling. I don't remember anything. I woke up with this (a black eye) and I think I drilled my head on either the corner of something or the floor. It was not fun – 10 out of 10 would not recommend." The good news is that Agar has fully recovered from her concussion and fractured nose. On Friday afternoon, Agar shared a photo of her wearing an American flag swimsuit along with the caption "don't feel too bad england, the week 1 bengals lost to the patriots too." Most of Agar's social media followers raved about her patriotic outfit. Others, however, were too busy laughing at her caption. "Absolute perfection," one fan commented. "God bless America," a second fan said. "Sorry, England. Beating you wasn't enough, so we're gonna make you watch the Jets play there every year," another fan wrote. "Thanks for the reminder," a social media user said. "Happy 4th of July!" This won't be the last time Agar goes viral this summer, that's for sure. That being said, NFL fans will have to wait until Week 1 to witness another hilarious press conference skit from Agar. Fans can check out Agar's work Fans Loving Annie Agar's Fourth Of July Swimsuit first appeared on The Spun on Jul 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 5, 2025, where it first appeared.

Woman Walks Out of Her Own Graduation Dinner After Mother-in-Law Gives Speech Thanking Herself
A woman says her mother-in-law delivered a speech at her master's graduation dinner — and made it all about her In a post on Reddit, she writes that her husband's mom delivered "this long monologue about how proud she was that 'her guidance and emphasis on education' inspired me" Now, she wants to know if she overreacted by leaving the dinner earlyA wife and mother who recently got her master's degree was shocked when her mother-in-law delivered a speech at her graduation dinner — and made it all about her. In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 28-year-old woman writes that she recently completed her master's degree, "while juggling two part-time jobs and caring for my 3-year-old." "My husband (30M) and I have had a tough year, so this was a big moment for me. He planned a small dinner with family to celebrate. Sweet, right?" she adds. But when the woman's family and friends sat down at the dinner table, one guest remained standing — her mother-in-law. "My MIL (60s) stood up and tapped her glass like she was making a wedding toast," she writes in the post. "She went on this long monologue about how proud she was that 'her guidance and emphasis on education' inspired me. Then she said, 'She wouldn't be here if I hadn't raised such a hardworking son.' " Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. She continues: "I blinked. No mention of me, my work, my late nights, my sacrifices, just her and her son. My own parents weren't there because they live overseas, so I felt even more humiliated that the one moment meant to celebrate my achievement was hijacked." The woman adds that she then "quietly got up and left halfway through dessert." "My husband thinks I was rude and 'made it weird.' He said, 'she was just trying to honor you her way.' I said I'm done being treated like a supporting character in my own life," she writes. "Am I overreacting?" Reddit users don't seem to think so. "Why did you let her continue her speech? Just call her out right on the spot? Actually your husband needed to call his mother out on the spot," writes one. Adds another commenter: "She wasn't honoring you in her own way. She wasn't honoring you at all. Who is she to suggest that you wouldn't have been able to get your master's without marrying her son and having his baby? What kind of nonsense is that?"
