First-look trailer for Saipan movie starring Steve Coogan released
The film is about the infamous confrontation between iconic Republic of Ireland football captain Roy Keane (Éanna Hardwicke) and his national team manager Mick McCarthy (Steve Coogan) during the team's preparations for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
It takes a comedic spin on the events leading up to Ireland's incendiary 2002 World Cup campaign and delves into how the intense rivalry between these two personalities transcended the game, gripping an entire nation and the sporting world.
"On the surface, the feud was all about standards, but deep down it was a hugely emotive story of two men whose rivalry and contempt came to surpass the sport they loved. This is the definitive account of one of the most fractious fallings-out in the history of sport,' the promo says.
Directed by award-winning filmmakers Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations, Ordinary Love) and based on an original script by Paul Fraser (Heartlands, A Room for Romeo Brass), SAIPAN stars BAFTA nominated Éanna Hardwicke (Lakelands, The Sixth Commandment) as Roy Keane, with two-time Academy Award® nominee Steve Coogan (Philomena, The Reckoning) as Mick McCarthy. Supporting cast include Alice Lowe (Sightseers), Jamie Beamish (Derry Girls), Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders), Harriet Cains (Bridgerton) and Peter McDonald (The Batman).
The film is produced by Macdara Kelleher and John Keville for Wild Atlantic Pictures (Evil Dead Rise, Cocaine Bear, Black 47) along with Trevor Birney and Oliver Butler for Fine Point Films (Kneecap, No Stone Unturned) with Patrick O'Neill and Rachael O'Kane serving as Executive Producers.
The Saipan movie will be released later this year.

PAUL POGBA HAS signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence, the club announced on Saturday. The 2018 World Cup winner has made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, an 18-month doping ban and an extortion case in which he was the victim. Pogba failed a drugs test in August 2023 after a match for Juventus and has been free to return to football since March, although his contract at the Italian giants was terminated last year. Roy Keane meets football legends as he visits Inter Miami training camp
Roy Keane met a trio of Barcelona greats as he visited Inter Miami's training camp ahead of the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup. The Corkman has travelled to the United States to take in the later stages of the inaugural edition of the club competition. And the former Manchester United captain visited the Inter Miami squad ahead of their clash with PSG on Sunday. Keane was pictured alongside a trio of former Barcelona stars in Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. But fans were disappointed that Keane never got to meet Inter Miami's talisman Lionel Messi. It was Messi's free-kick against Porto that propelled his MLS side into the knockout stages of the Club World Cup. But they now have their work cut out against the reigning Champions League winners in PSG. Messi, of course, had a two-year spell at PSG after leaving Barcelona, scoring 32 goals in 75 games for the French side.
