Cricketer-turned-pundit Deep Dasgupta wants India to drop Sai Sudharsan from their playing 11 for the 2nd Test against England.
Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta wants India to make two changes in their playing 11 for the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England: dropping one-Test-old Sai Sudharsan for Nitish Kumar Reddy and bringing in Kuldeep Yadav at number eight.
Sudharsan made his international debut in the first Test at Headingley. He got out strangled down the leg for a duck in the first innings and clipped an easy one to mid-wicket after looking good for 30 (48) in the second. Dasgupta believes that Sudharsan should make way for the more experienced Karun Nair at number three, while Reddy could supplement the pace attack from number six.
'In general, you don't want to make too many changes after the first game, but you have also got to think this is a very young side. It's a new captain, newish side. So you have got to get the combination right. Karun Nair has got most of his runs at No. 3. Also, he batted for India A against the England Lions at No. 3," the former India wicketkeeper-batter said on Star Sports, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
'So you might want to look at Karun Nair at No. 3," he added. That opens up a space for someone like Nitish at No. 6, who, if required, can give you a few overs of seam. I will have a chat with Sai Sudharsan and say this is not a reflection of what happened in the first Test, but this is a combination things. So that conversation becomes very, very important, how you put it across to someone like Sai."
The bigger point of concern in Headingley was Shardul Thakur. Picked as an all-rounder, he contributed 1 and 4 with the bat and was trusted to bowl just 16 overs from more than 182.
Dasgupta feels Kuldeep at number eight would be free of any batting responsibilities because the top-order is in form.
'Looking forward to Birmingham, which is usually a batting-friendly venue, I would love to see Kuldeep there. The advantage of having a top five amongst runs is that you are not too worried about contribution from your No. 8 with the bat," he said.

The 27-year-old is currently training under Jan Zelezny, the Czech legend who holds the world record in javelin (98.48m). Chopra shared Zelezny's best advice to him so far and how it has helped in competitions. 'Whenever I throw, I stay very energetic, but he (Zelezny) tells me I need to run in a flow. It shouldn't feel tight - I should run like an 18-year-old kid without any tension. I'm slowly understanding the concept of flow,' Chopra said. Neeraj Chopra recently registered his first-ever 90m throw. He achieved the feat at the Doha Diamond League. Despite his brilliant effort, Chopra lost the title to Julian Weber, who also managed his first-ever 90m-plus throw in the final round to snatch the victory. I think he could throw the javelin well, especially when he was in his peak years. 'I would like to try javelin with Jasprit Bumrah too and hope he teaches me some bowling skills. While bowling and javelin are both throws, they are very different. I would like to learn from Bumrah.' Asked whether he's superstitious, Chopra said, 'I try to stay calm on the day of my event. I don't think too much about it. I just focus on giving my 100%. I try to stay relaxed, eat good food, and rest well.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD (With agency inputs)

IND vs ENG: 'Jasprit Bumrah is available but ...,' says Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate ahead of 2nd Test

Jasprit Bumrah (Photo by) in Birmingham: As India trail 0-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy following a disappointing loss at Headingley, all eyes are on the team's spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah . The premier fast bowler is available for selection ahead of the second Test, but whether he takes the field remains uncertain. 'Jasprit Bumrah is available but we haven't made a call yet whether he will play this game or not,' India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate told reporters on Monday. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy could be in line for his debut. The young batting all-rounder has impressed in training and is 'very close to getting a game,' according to ten Doeschate. His inclusion could provide balance to the side, especially if Bumrah is rested. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Jasprit Bumrah is ready to play, we will take that call at the last moment. Nitish Kumar Reddy is very close to getting a game. He is our premium batting all-rounder," the Dutchman added. The uncertainty around Bumrah isn't a question of fitness but one of long-term planning. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier confirmed that Bumrah would feature in only three of the five Tests in the series as part of a pre-decided workload management plan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? 'The scoreline doesn't change that,' Gambhir had asserted after defeat in the first Test, underlining the importance of keeping Bumrah fresh for future fixtures. India's bowling attack lacked bite in Leeds, and with the series heating up, there is growing pressure to field the strongest XI. Yet, team management seems firm on playing the long game, prioritising Bumrah's durability over short-term gains. As the second Test looms, India face a crucial decision — go all-in with Bumrah to level the series, or stick to the plan and back their depth. Either way, the management's commitment to strategic rotation signals a shift in India's approach: eyes not just on this series, but on sustaining success across formats.
