Shubman Gill's captaincy debut wins praise: Gambhir, Kotak & Jaiswal react!
'The scoreline doesn't change that,' Gambhir had asserted after defeat in the first Test, underlining the importance of keeping Bumrah fresh for future fixtures.
India's bowling attack lacked bite in Leeds, and with the series heating up, there is growing pressure to field the strongest XI. Yet, team management seems firm on playing the long game, prioritising Bumrah's durability over short-term gains.
As the second Test looms, India face a crucial decision — go all-in with Bumrah to level the series, or stick to the plan and back their depth. Either way, the management's commitment to strategic rotation signals a shift in India's approach: eyes not just on this series, but on sustaining success across formats.

India Women Break 19-Year Drought With Historic T20I Win Over England In 2nd Match
Team India scripted history as the Indian women's cricket team defeated England by 24 runs in the second T20I to take a 2–0 lead in the ongoing five-match series. With this clinical performance, India ended a 19-year drought in T20Is against England, marking a major milestone in their cricketing journey. Rodrigues and Amanjot Shine Bright Despite the early dismissal of seasoned campaigners Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, India bounced back brilliantly. The middle-order duo of Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur took charge and stitched together a match-defining partnership. Jemimah Rodrigues scored a composed 63 off 39 balls, anchoring the innings with flair. Amanjot Kaur, who also bagged the Player of the Match award, blasted an unbeaten 63 off just 39 balls, showcasing her all-round brilliance. Disciplined Bowling Seals the Deal In response, England struggled to maintain momentum. Tammy Beaumont's 54-run knock and Sophie Ecclestone's fiery 35 off 14 provided some resistance, but India's bowlers held their nerve: Shreyanka Patil impressed with two crucial wickets. Amanjot Kaur struck with the ball as well, underlining her all-round value. Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma maintained tight lines, choking England's chase during key phases. Eventually, England were restricted to 157/6, falling 24 runs short of the target. A Record-Breaking Collapse for England The loss carries added historical weight for England: It's the first time they have lost two matches in a five-match T20I bilateral series. Previously, in seven five-match series, England had won three by 5–0 margins and three others 4–1. Only once before had they failed to win all five (against New Zealand in 2012, 4–0 with one no-result). This also marks a rare back-to-back home defeat in the shortest format. A Win 19 Years in the Making This victory is especially sweet for India. It breaks a 19-year spell without a T20I series win over England and puts them within touching distance of a historic series triumph. What's Next? India now leads the five-match series 2–0, with the third T20I scheduled next at Hove. A win there would seal the series for the Women in Blue, something no Indian side has managed on English soil in this format.

IND Vs ENG 2nd Test: Why Are Players Wearing Black Armbands At Edgbaston? Check Here
IND vs ENG 2nd Test: The ongoing second Test between India and England at Edgbaston began on a solemn note as players from both sides wore black armbands on Day 1 to pay their respects to former England cricketer Wayne Larkins, who passed away earlier this week. Larkins, fondly known as 'Ned,' represented England in 13 Tests and 25 ODIs between 1979 and 1991. Larkins etched his name in English cricket history when he hit the winning runs in the memorable 1990 Test victory over the West Indies at Sabina Park, Jamaica. His international career spanned over a decade, debuting in an ODI against New Zealand on June 20, 1979, and playing his final game in 1991. Earlier Armbands: Tributes in First Test This isn't the first time black armbands have been worn during the series. In the first Test at Headingley (June 20–24), players wore them on Day 1, Day 3, and Day 5 to commemorate separate tragic events and individuals. Day 1: In memory of victims of a tragic passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. Day 3: As a mark of respect for former England fast bowler David Lawrence. Day 5: To honour former Indian left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi. The gestures reflect the series' ongoing efforts to pay tribute to the legacy and lives associated with the sport. IND vs ENG 2nd Test: England Won The Toss Opted To Bowl First The second Test got underway on July 2 at Birmingham's Edgbaston Stadium with England captain Ben Stokes winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. England retained the same playing XI that clinched the first Test in Leeds by five wickets. India, on the other hand, made three significant changes: - Jasprit Bumrah (rested for workload management), - B Sai Sudharsan, and - Shardul Thakur were replaced by - Akash Deep, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Bumrah, the world's top-ranked Test bowler and India's standout performer in the Leeds Test, will return for the third match at Lord's. The five-match Test series stands at 1-0 in England's favour following their victory at Headingley. The third Test is scheduled to be played at Lord's, London, from July 10 to 14, where both teams will aim to shift the series momentum in their favour.
