BJP's double-engine government has proved a double-betrayal for people of Odisha: BJD
Addressing a press conference at Shankha Bhawan, three senior leaders - former ministers Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and Snehangini Chhuria, and general secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra alleged that the 'double engine' government has delivered 'double betrayal' to the people in the first year.
'The BJP government is claiming credit for opening four gates of Srimandir and opening of Ratna Bhandar. But why is it shying away from making the Justice Raghubir Das report on the missing key of Ratna Bhandar public? This exposes BJP's double standards,' Das Burma said.
Furthermore, the re-inventorisation of the jewellery and other valuables of Ratna Bhandar has still not been completed. The redevelopment work of Srimandir has come to a standstill. The government is even unable to form a new temple management committee, he added.
Claiming that Odisha received 18.9 per cent less central grants in 2024-25 compared to the previous fiscal, the former minister said this exposed the hollowness of 'double-engine, double-development' claims.
On the Subhadra Yojana, Chhuria said they initially promised to provide Rs 50,000 to every woman in the state within two years. But, the amount is being distributed in two installments of Rs 5,000 each every year which comes down to just Rs 27 per day. This is an insult to women's dignity, she said.
Criticising the Odisha Vision Document, Baxipatra said the document released by Modi sets a target of a 9 per cent GDP growth rate for Odisha while other states are aiming at achieving 15 per cent. He said the Naveen Patnaik government had already achieved 16 pc growth rate.

Detained in Delhi days ago, ‘Bengal family' of three pushed into Bangladesh
IN A fresh incident, a family of three, including their minor son, was detained in Delhi as 'illegal Bangladeshis' and then finally 'pushed into the neighbouring country,' their relatives said. The relatives claimed that the family hails from Birbhum in West Bengal. A senior police officer in Delhi said that Danish Sheikh, his wife Sunali Khatun and their minor son have 'all been deported to Bangladesh after proper verification'. This comes close on the heels of such detentions in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. Recently, a total of seven persons, hailing from West Bengal, were detained by the Mumbai police and pushed into Bangladesh by BSF at 3:30 am on June 14. After intervention by the TMC government in Bengal, the individuals were brought back and sent to their homes. 'They all have been deported to Bangladesh on June 26 after proper verification at the local police level first and after that a thorough interrogation by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office office. They hail from Bagerhat, Bangladesh,' said Rajeev Ranjan, DCP (Rohini). 'This cannot be tolerated. This is happening every day. Despite showing all proof, including land records, this has happened,' claimed Samirul Islam, chairman of the migrant labour welfare board and Rajya Sabha MP. 'Our government has intervened, but the administration in BJP-ruled states and in Delhi are not paying heed. We will move to court on Monday and appeal to the court to produce them before the judge. 'They are migrant labourers who have been working as ragpickers in Delhi for the last 20 years. They were picked up by the police on July 18. All documents, including land deeds, were provided to the police. But they didn't budge,' said Roshni Bibi, a cousin of Sunali, speaking to The Indian Express over phone from Delhi. 'Their second child, a girl, was not detained as she was with a relative in another place. We did not know what happened to the family until they called us from Bangladesh. They said someone has given them shelter there but could not specify the location,' said Roshni Bibi. 'They worked for several years in Delhi as ragpickers. Like most migrant workers, they visit their native village during festivities. DJB Regains Financial Powers To Independently Execute Major Projects
New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board will now be able to independently execute capital-intensive projects without depending on the Delhi cabinet to approve them, chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. Gupta said the govt has restored the financial powers of DJB, which were taken away by the previous govt in the 2021-22 financial year. This will help in expediting high-cost projects such as the rejuvenation of the Yamuna, sewage treatment, and improvement of regular drinking water supply. She added that the financial powers of DJB's chairperson, chief executive officer, and other senior officials have also been significantly increased. Gupta emphasised that the enhancement in the board's powers was aimed at making governance more efficient, responsive, and effective. The board will now be authorised to sanction all projects over Rs 50 crore independently. While the DJB chairperson (water minister) can approve projects worth Rs 25-50 crore, the CEO has the power to clear projects costing between Rs 5 crore and Rs 25 crore, and the members can give their sanction to projects worth up to Rs 5 crore. Officials said the senior officers will also have enhanced financial powers now. "This will lead to better decision-making at every level of the board and reduce unnecessary delays in execution," said an official. The CM said Yamuna cleaning plans remained only on paper for a long time due to the cumbersome and lengthy approval processes, but the bottleneck has now been removed. "Our govt is committed to delivering result-oriented governance, not entangling people in paperwork," the CM said. She added that the functioning of the DJB has now been made more transparent and accountable, which will reduce the chances of corruption and ensure responsibility at every level.

State a leader in cow protection, livestock development: UP govt
The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday said the state was the nation's frontrunner in cow protection and livestock development, accounting for 16 percent of India's cattle population. It said that cows are not only revered in UP, but are also powering the rural economy, creating jobs and strengthening livelihoods. The government claimed, citing the 20th Livestock Census (2019),the state is home to 1.90 crore cattle, including 11.84 lakh stray cattle, a figure that has grown from over 12 lakh in 2017, before formal policies were in place. The government further claims, after Yogi Adityanath became Chief Minister in 2017, cow protection became a top priority in the state. On January 2, 2019, UP became the first state in the country to launch a policy for the protection of stray cattle. According to the governmentdata there are 7717 cow shelters in the state, housing 12.52 lakh (1.25 million) government spends Rs 50 per animal per day, around Rs 7.5 crore daily, for their care. For every large cow protection center, Rs 1.60 crore is being invested in construction. According to the offcial data the state produces 5,500 tonnes of cow dung daily, which is being used to make various products like vermicompost, flower pots, cow-based lamps, cow-dung wood, incense sticks, Panchgavya, Jeevamrit, and Ghanamrit. According to the government, the state has a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of rupees 25.63 lakh crore of which the livestock sector contributes rupees 1.67 lakh crore. While livestock contributes to 4.11 percent to India's overall GDP, While livestock contributes 4.11% to India's GDP overall, UP contributes a much higher, 7.1 percent according to the government. The state also produces 390 lakh metric tonnes of milk every year, strengthening the rural economy. Under the Chief Minister's Indigenous Cow Promotion Scheme and the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, native breeds like Sahiwal, Gir, and Tharparkar are being promoted. These schemes provide 40–50% subsidy and rewards of Rs 10,000–15,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to over 6,500 cattle rearers. The government data stated, to encourage artificial insemination in cattle, 3.08 lakh free procedures were done in 2024–25. Under the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund and National Livestock Mission, 44 and 292 projects are being implemented with investments of Rs 1,094.38 crore and Rs 144.29 crore, respectively. Under the UP Global Investors Summit (UPGIS) 2023, 578 dairy and livestock units have attracted investments worth Rs 2,221.99 crore and created 1.23 lakh jobs. Through schemes like the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, the government is helping set up units with 25 milch cows, with 50% of the beneficiaries being women. Under the Fodder Policy 2024, Napier grass is being grown on 230 hectares of land, aiming to produce 1.73 lakh quintals of green fodder. In addition, 9,449.82 hectares of pasture land have been freed from illegal occupation, and fodder has been planted on 5,458.93 hectares. Women's participation in cow dung and urine-based product units has made many rural women self-reliant, the data reveals.
