Did Virat Kohli Take Subtle 'Impact Player' Dig At Rohit Sharma? Internet Ponders
Virat Kohli's statement about not wanting to play as an impact player but making an impact as a fielder has fans speculating if it's a dig at Rohit Sharma.
Ace India batter Virat Kohli's statement that he doesn't want to play as an impact player and rather make an impact as a fielder during the 20 overs has left fans online wondering if he took a subtle dig at Rohit Sharma, who played as an impact player throughout IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians.
Kohli, who has been the face of the team since its initial years, could not hold back his joy after Bengaluru edged out the Punjab Kings by just six runs in a nerve-racking final.
Kohli was interviewed by Matthew Hayden after the game, where the former discussed in detail the win and his future with Bengaluru.
Kohli remains the only cricketer to have played for a single team since the tournament's inception, and Kohli said that he wants to give everything on the field for Bengaluru until his last game.
'Well, I have an opportunity to play this game for not many years. So there is an end date to our career, as you know. And by the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had," Kohli said.
'So I look for ways to improve. I cannot play as an impact player. I want to field 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That is the kind of player I have been. And God blessed me with that perspective, with the talent," Kohli added.
Rohit, one of the Indian Premier League's leading names and the second-highest run-scorer, has been used as an impact player in IPL 2025.
'Nobody wants to play as an impact player. MI management forced Rohit Sharma to play as an impact player," a fan tweeted in the wee hours of Wednesday.
'Virat Kohli: I don't want to play as an impact player, I want to field for 20 overs. Subtle. Very subtle," another fan tweeted.

Kohli's moist eyes melted hearts just after Josh Hazlewood had bowled his second ball of the 20th over, and when a choked Virat Kohli kissed the Motera turf, there could have been a million teary-eyed fans who had waited for this day just like their hero.

Shubman Gill joins Virat Kohli in elite England club for India Test captains
India Test captain Shubman Gill joined Virat Kohli in an elite list as he got to 500 runs in the ongoing Test series against England on Saturday, July 5. Gill reached the landmark when he got to 76 runs and became the second Indian Test captain to score 500 runs in England and joined Kohli in the process. The star batter scored 593 runs during the 2018 tour of England, which is the highest by an Indian captain on English soil. Gill had put on a show in the first innings as he scored 269 runs and broke the previous record set by Kohli for the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests. However, on Day 4, Gill came on to bat as India lost Karun Nair early. advertisementENG vs IND 2nd Test Day 4 Updates His role was initially a subdued one as he was first acting as the second fiddle to KL Rahul, who scored a fifty. Then, after Rahul's dismissal, Rishabh Pant came in and decided to pull off some pyrotechnics of his own as India went into lunch with a lead of more than 350. Once the innings resumed, Gill shifted gears, and he started to attack the bowlers, who were trying to bowl short at him. The Indian skipper obliged with a couple of big sixes on his way to another fifty and continued to play his shots. Gill and Pant ensured that the lead went past 400 and Pant fell after that. The Indian skipper became more watchful after the 110-run stand with Pant came to an end. He would break the shackles in between to attack Shoaib Bashir and got a boundary to get into the seventies. He then hit a six to join the 500-run club. Gill breaks another Kohli recordDuring his knock on Saturday, Gill did break another record that was held by Kohli as India's Test captain. The Indian Test captain went past Kohli in the list for the most runs by an Indian captain in his debut series. Kohli had scored 449 runs during his first assignment during the Australia tour in 2014/15. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharmas International Comeback Delayed As BCCI Postpones Indias Tour Of Bangladesh Due To THIS Reason
India's white-ball tour to Bangladesh, which was originally scheduled to take place in August 2025, has now been moved to September 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday. The away series was to feature three ODIs on August 17, 20 and 23, followed by T20Is on August 26, 29 and 31 in Mirpur and Chattogram. According to a BCCI's media release, both boards mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series due to scheduling conflicts. "The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026," the BCCI said in a statement. "This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course," it added. While the official reason given for postponing the white ball series was scheduling challenges, IANS reported that security concerns due to the state of unrest in Bangladesh are believed to be the major factor in the decision taken by the two boards. Bangladesh are currently touring Sri Lanka, while India are facing England in the five-match away Test series. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's International Comeback Delayed The postponement of the India- Bangladesh series also comes as a disappointment for Indian fans as the three-game ODI series would have given them a chance to see both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in an Indian jersey for the first time since the 2025 Champions Trophy victory in Dubai earlier this year. After taking their retirements from Test and T20Is, ODIs are now the only format where Rohit and Virat continue to play. The eagerly waiting fan bases will now have to wait till October when India tours Australia for the white-ball series, which will include three One-Day Internationals and five T20Is.

'Bit Of Similarity With Rishabh Pant': Michael Atherton In Awe Of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Last Updated: Michael Atherton has lauded Vaibhav Suryavanshi's power-hitting, comparing him to Rishabh Pant. Former England cricketer Michael Atherton has said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi's power-hitting has a tad bit of similarity with that of India's Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who too was in a mood to go for the big hits in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Suryavanshi smashed a jaw-dropping hundred off just 52 deliveries against England U19, setting a new benchmark in Youth ODIs. With this explosive innings, Suryavanshi has become the youngest Indian to score a Youth ODI hundred, breaking Sarfaraz Khan's 10-year-old record. Athers breaks down teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi's remarkable 52-ball century for India Under-19s 🤯⭐ — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) July 5, 2025 'The young man, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who shot to prominence as, teenage prodigy, shot to prominence with a 35-ball 100 in the IPL, hit a 52-ball 100 today. He's finally out for 143 of 78 balls, 13 fours, 10 sixes, some incredible shots in this innings," Atherton said while speaking on Sky Sports. 'There is a bit of a similarity with Rishabh Pant, the way that he plays, he's got a beautiful swing of the bat, a very pure and natural swing of the bat and was clearly in fantastic form today, giving it some real welly," Atherton added. Sarfaraz had scored a hundred at 15 years and 338 days against South Africa U19 12 years ago. Suryavanshi's knock also shattered the record for the fastest Youth ODI hundred ever. Pakistan's Kamran Ghulam held this record for his 53-ball century against England U19 in 2013. Vaibhav first showed his brilliant talent in the Indian Premier League while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Suryavanshi, who had scores of 48, 45 and 86 in his previous three outings in the series, struck 10 boundaries and seven sixes during his innings. Sent in to bat, India lost skipper Ayush Mhatre in just the fourth over. Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra added 219 runs for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Ben Mayes. In 2024, Suryavanshi struck the joint-fastest century in men's Youth Tests against Australia U19 in Chennai, by reaching the three-figure mark in just 56 deliveries. First Published:
