Arch Manning heir apparent, Texas QB commit Dia Bell named MVP of entire Elite 11 event
Dia Bell will probably be the heir apparent to Arch Manning in a couple of years. The five-star has been committed to Texas for over a year. Now, the 2026 blue chip quarterback has a major feather in his cap. Bell has been named the overall MVP of the prestigious Elite 11 QB event in Los Angeles.
Bell was the MVP of Day 1 of the event and had a strong showing on Day 2. His performance on Day 3 clinched the title, something Elite 11 attendee Vince Young couldn't do. Of the eleven Texas quarterbacks to be invited to the event, Bell is the first to win the overall MVP.
The event, which includes quarterbacks committed to the likes of Tennessee, Florida, Penn State, Texas A&M and Washington, is the biggest camp of the recruiting season for quarterbacks. Past MVPs include Clemson's Cade Klubnik, Caleb Williams, C.J. Stroud, Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, Matthew Stafford.
According to On3, Bell finished 18 of 23 passing for four touchdowns during the 7v7 portion of Day 3 on Thursday.
'Dia Bell lived up to his status as On3's highest rated Elite 11 Finalist, stacking three impressive days of work in Los Angeles. The Texas commit showed the most refined and consistent mechanics we saw throughout the week. Bell was the On3 MVP on Day 1, standing out during drill work. He was a Top Performer on Day 2, flashing excellent footwork in his drops from under center. On Day 3, Bell pitched a clean sheet in 7-on-7, going 18 of 23 for 4 touchdowns, with zero interceptions or sacks. The South Florida native's arm talent, level of refined skill, and track record against top competition give him the highest floor of any quarterback in the 2026 cycle.' — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
Bell, who was named the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, had his 2024 season cut short due to a serious leg injury in Florida's state playoffs. But his performance at Elite 11 should put to rest any fears that the injury would impact Bell's longterm outlook.
During his junior year at American Heritage High School, the 6-foot-2 QB threw for 2,597 yards and 29 touchdowns, completing 70.6% of his passes. Bell is the No. 2 ranked QB in the 2026 recruiting class according to On3's Industry Composite Rankings.
'The Elite 11 is a huge thing for quarterbacks, so it is an honor for me to be in the Finals this week. I have been going to camps since I was in middle school, trying to get my name out there and being in this event was always a goal for me. Being invited and being able to compete means a lot. You want to be a top guy, and this is where you show it.' - Bell told On3's Chad Simmons

The world's tallest teen, 7-foot-9 centre Olivier Rioux, gives football a try at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The world's tallest teenager is trying his hand — his reach, really — at football. Florida basketball player Olivier Rioux, a 7-foot-9 centre who played for the Under-19 Canadian national team this summer, recently worked out for the Gators' football team. Rioux, from Terrebonne, Que., donned an orange helmet and took snaps on special teams, with Florida assistant coaches hoping his massive wingspan might be a difference maker when it comes to blocking field goals and extra points. 'I like the idea," Gators basketball coach Todd Golden said during a booster event Thursday evening. 'I give them credit for trying it.' There was one issue: The 305-pound Rioux has an 11-inch vertical, so even with his extra-long reach, he was unable to block any kicks during the workout. 'They were a little disappointed,' Golden said. No worries. Rioux can simply stick to his full-time gig with the hoops team. After redshirting as a true freshman last season, he's expected to get on the court in limited capacity this fall. He's unlikely to play much considering the defending national champions return their entire frontcourt, but he should at least get on the court in garbage time. Golden already has considered using him to guard inbound passes, something Rioux did to perfection just before halftime against the United States in the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland earlier this month. Rioux forced an errant pass that led to a turnover and a 3-pointer just before halftime. Rioux's unusual height landed him in the Guinness World Records a few years ago, and he has become a walking viral video at Florida. While coaches and teammates climbed a ladder to cut pieces of the nets after the Gators won the Southeastern Conference Tournament, Rioux was able to do it while standing flat-footed. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Nebraska football still pushing for top ranked class of 2027 tight end Ahmad Hudson

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are still in the mix for class of 2027 tight end Ahmad Hudson. The playmaker indicated that Nebraska, Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M have been recruiting him the hardest, according to Sam Spiegelman. Hudson is the No. 17 overall player in the 2027 class, the fourth overall player in the state of Louisiana, and the top tight end in the class per Rivals rankings. As a sophomore, he caught 41 passes for 718 yards and six touchdowns. He's also an accomplished basketball player, averaging 21 points and 14 rebounds per game last season. The Huskers first offered him a scholarship on January 30, and he visited Lincoln on June 6 for the Battle of the Boneyard tournament. It will certainly be interesting to see how this recruitment progresses. He is a dynamic athlete, standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 230 pounds. He would bring an immediate playmaker to the Nebraska offense and give future quarterbacks a dynamic target. Jimmie Johnson Opens The Door For 2026 Nascar Return

(Photo by) Seven-time Nascar Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson still has the need for speed. The co-owner of Legacy Motor Club cannot get racing out of his system, and he will likely be returning to the wheel of a Nascar Cup Series car in 2026. When Nascar announced it will be racing in San Diego – near Johnson's hometown -- next year, he told NBC Sports that it peaked his interest. 'I want to keep going,' Johnson said. 'I want to stay in a car. I think it's good for us. 'There's a chance that I run more races next year if we have a third charter on the docket and have a sponsor to bring along, team members to groom, a crew chief to get reps, a driver to get reps. There's a lot of scenarios that are in play. I'm hopeful I can keep going.' Johnson scheduled only two races for the No. 84 team with backing from longtime sponsor Carvana this year. He finished third in the Daytona 500, his best finish since returning to Nascar racing in 2023 after a brief IndyCar Series stint. Johnson, an 83-time Cup Series winner, owns a majority stake in the two-car team, which he originally partnered with Allegiant Airlines CEO Maury Gallagher. Legacy Motor Club is currently in the midst of a complicated lawsuit against Rick Ware Racing over the acquisition of one of RWR's charters. Legacy believes the team agreed to purchase one of Ware's charters ahead of the 2026 season, attempting to expand to three cars. Ware is arguing it is for 2027. However, Ware has an agreement to lease one of its charters to its strategic ally, RFK Racing, in 2026. Ware also reportedly inked a deal to sell his team to former Spire Motorsports co-owner TJ Puchyr, according to the Associated Press. However, Ware was not sourced in the report, leaving questions about the team's future.
