NHL Trade Rumors: Sabres shut down Canucks' hopes as Bowen Byram unlikely to move

Speculation linking Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram to the Vancouver Canucks has cooled (Imagn Images)
Trade buzz around Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram and a possible move to the Vancouver Canucks has recently intensified—but NHL insider David Pagnotta has poured cold water on the speculation, suggesting the connection is outdated and unlikely to revive anytime soon.
Canucks interest in Bowen Byram was real—last season
During a recent appearance on the 'Sekeres & Price' podcast, Pagnotta admitted that Vancouver's interest in Bowen Byram wasn't imagined, but clarified it was more relevant during the 2023–24 season. 'So, with the Canucks, I think it was real more so in the season than it was this past June,' he said. 'But honestly, for me, it would probably be something coming out of left field once all is said and done if something does happen with the Canucks.
'
His comments come as the Sabres elected to take Byram, a restricted free agent, to arbitration—effectively blocking other teams from submitting offer sheets. That decision handed Byram control over the term of his next deal, letting him choose between a one-year or two-year contract.
David Pagnotta: Canucks desperately seeking centres.
Sabres aren't shopping Bowen Byram—but won't rule out a move
While Buffalo isn't openly putting Byram on the trade block, they haven't shut the door on potential offers either. General manager Kevyn Adams emphasized the team remains flexible: 'If there's a deal out there that makes sense for us … we're open to it.'

But it's not just about stockpiling future assets. Adams made it clear the Sabres want impact players in return, particularly upgrades on the offensive front. According to Pagnotta, 'The Sabres want to upgrade themselves up front,' and while '(the arbitration) eliminates the offer sheet threat... it doesn't eliminate the fact that they may still end up moving him.'

Adding more fuel to the fire, Pagnotta noted that Byram 'would prefer a change of scenery,' potentially signaling some behind-the-scenes tension. However, despite this, he insists a Canucks trade is highly unlikely at this stage.
The situation remains fluid, but for now, Byram appears set to stay in Buffalo—unless the right deal comes along to shake things loose.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'He needs to...' - Anil Kumble claims only one player can help India win the Lord's Test

London: India's batters Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul run between the wickets during the third day of the third Test match between India and England, at the Lord's Cricket Ground, in London. (PTI Photo/R Senthilkumar)(PTI07_12_2025_000295B) India and England will take to the pitch at Lord's with a simple goal in mind. The hosts need to take six more wickets, while the visitors need 135 more runs to win. With Day 5 of the 3rd Test set to commence, India need their batters to deliver. While India managed to end England's second innings impressively at 192, their batters also faced a roadblock. Ben Stokes ' side's relentless attack with the ball saw India lose Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck, after which main man Shubman Gill and Karun Nair also departed cheaply. Nightwatchman Akash Deep lost his wicket to captain Ben Stokes, leaving KL Rahul at the crease. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Ahead of play on Day 5, former India star and captain Anil Kumble singled out a player who can steer India's hopes and lead them to victory. 'KL Rahul is going to be the main man (for India). If India are to go past this total tomorrow, he needs to be there till the end — not just give India a good start,' Kumble said on JioHotstar. 'This is going to be a very important knock. If India have to cross the line, KL Rahul will have to play a major role,' said the veteran. Washington Sundar press conference: On Gautam Gambhir's support, last over drama, winning at Lord's With Rahul at 33 from 47 balls and Rishabh Pant coming in, the partnership between the two will also play a huge role in whether India will gain the advantage heading into the penultimate Test. Analysing the potential partnership, Kumble said, 'India had a great chance. They did really well to restrict England to 192 and then got to 41 for 1. I thought Yashasvi Jaiswal played a very poor shot early in his innings, but Karun Nair and KL Rahul batted well to get to that 41. Then once Karun got out and Shubman Gill followed, it's now slightly tilted back in England's favour. India will need a massive partnership from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant tomorrow.' The veteran also ruled out the possibility of a draw, asserting that either India or England will prevail. With the series balanced at 1-1 and the stakes higher than ever, Monday's action promises a fiery encounter. Ahead of the game, it was announced that Mohammed Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for his aggressive celebration and making physical contact with Ben Duckett. Duckett, too, taunted Gill when he came on to bat, saying that scoring 600 is 'enough' for the captain in this series. Gill departed for just 6 from 9 balls — his lowest score yet in the series. Pakistan cricket in turmoil! Audit exposes crores in corruption and overpayments

NEW DELHI: The Auditor General of Pakistan has flagged major financial irregularities amounting to millions of rupees within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including unauthorised appointments and excess payments to match officials. The audit report points to instances of corruption during 2023, when the board was under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi and Zaka Ashraf. Among the key findings is the misappropriation of 63.39 million Pakistani rupees paid to police for providing meals during international match security duties. The report also highlights the unauthorized hiring of three under-16 coaches at the Karachi High Performance Centre, which resulted in salary payouts of 5.4 million rupees. The report also questions the hiring of a Media Director with a hefty monthly salary of 900,000 rupees. Additionally, the audit notes that ticketing contracts were awarded without following proper competitive bidding procedures. These revelations have further strained the PCB's already fragile administrative reputation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal?
