Police in Tetouan Seize 17,505 Drug Pills, Arrest Four Suspects
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), and the suspects are believed to be part of a larger criminal network involved in drug trafficking.
According to a security source, the suspects were caught red-handed in possession of the drugs as they were attempting to sell them. During the operation, police searched a vehicle the suspects were using and found 17,505 pills of 'Rivotril,' a type of prescription drug often misused as a narcotic.
Authorities have placed the suspects under judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor. The investigation now aims to uncover more details about the network, including identifying other individuals involved, and dismantling the entire operation.
The source said that this recent operation is part of Morocco's continuous efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and DGST continue to work together to prevent the smuggling and distribution of illegal drugs across the country, the source added.
Police in Berkane arrested two individuals earlier this week for their suspected involvement in psychotropic drug trafficking. This includes a repeat offender and a general practitioner who issued false prescriptions that enabled the first suspect to purchase the drugs.
This weekend, security services in Nador foiled a drug trafficking operation, seizing over a ton of hashish and arresting six individuals. The operation was carried out across several northern cities.

Spanish Police Seize Over 15 Tons of Hashish Hidden in Moroccan Watermelon Truck
Rabat – Spanish authorities, working closely with Moroccan and French counterparts, have intercepted a massive shipment of hashish smuggled into Spain from Morocco, seizing more than 15 tons of the drug concealed in a truck loaded with watermelons. The truck, which arrived in the port of Almería from Morocco, was stopped by Spain's national police. Officers discovered 13.3 tons of hashish stashed between watermelon pallets and inside cleverly disguised fake sweet potatoes. The operation, which also led to the arrest of five men, including the truck driver and others involved in surveillance and logistics, was the result of months of international cooperation. The suspects, accused of belonging to a criminal organization and drug trafficking , have been brought before a judge and placed in pretrial detention. According to a statement from the Spanish police, the raid was coordinated with Morocco's General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and France's anti-narcotics office (OFAST). The investigation began in early June after OFAST alerted Spanish authorities to the activities of a Spanish-Moroccan criminal network trafficking large quantities of hashish into Europe. Investigators soon determined that the group planned to use a semi-trailer truck to smuggle the drugs via Almería, exploiting the steady flow of agricultural shipments between Morocco and Spain to avoid detection. Police eventually tracked the truck to a warehouse in an industrial area, where they uncovered dozens of packages of hashish hidden among watermelon pallets. They also found sacks resembling sweet potatoes, which turned out to be hollow containers designed to conceal additional drugs and evade inspection. Spanish authorities hailed the operation as a successful example of cross-border cooperation against organized crime. Tags: drug traffickinghashishspain police

Moroccan Police Seize Over 3 Tons of Cannabis Near Essaouira
Rabat – Moroccan police have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs near the coastal city of Essaouira. The operation, which took place early Tuesday morning, was carried out by the regional police in Essaouira in coordination with Morocco's intelligence agency. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement that police seized three tonnes and 30 kilograms of cannabis resin (locally known as chira). The drugs were found packed in 80 bundles, hidden near the rural coastal area of Sidi Ishaq. During the operation, officers also found 29 plastic containers filled with 725 liters of fuel, likely intended to power boats used in smuggling activities. Police arrested three individuals suspected of being part of an international drug trafficking network. The suspects were caught with MAD 120,000 in cash, believed to be profits from illegal activities. Authorities have launched a full investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, to uncover more details about the network and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation. The DGSN said it remains committed to fighting international drug trafficking and dismantling the criminal networks behind it. Tags: CannabisDrug bustessaouira

Moroccan Authorities Seize 102,000 Pills in Bab Sebta Smuggling Attempt
Berlin – A coordinated operation between Morocco's national police and customs services stopped a major drug trafficking attempt at the Bab Sebta border post on Saturday evening. The interception involved a vehicle registered abroad, driven by a Spanish citizen of Moroccan origin. She traveled with her two children and another Moroccan woman. Border officers carried out a detailed inspection of the vehicle and uncovered 102,000 Rivotril tablets concealed inside metal compartments built into the car's structure. The scene appeared, at first glance, to be that of an ordinary family trip. That appearance quickly faded as officers discovered the hidden cargo. Investigators now believe the suspects used the family setup as a cover, hoping to reduce suspicion and ease their way across the border. Authorities arrested all four individuals as soon as they entered Moroccan territory. The group remains in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Investigators aim to trace possible links between this case and wider trafficking networks, both within and beyond Morocco. This seizure marks a new chapter in Morocco's efforts to fight the spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Security forces continue to reinforce control at sensitive border crossings like Bab Sebta, where criminal networks often test the limits of surveillance. Officials stress their resolve to dismantle these networks and to protect public health and national security. Tags: Bab SebtaDrug bustMoroccoMorocco drug bustsmuggling
