The injuries are suddenly piling up for the New Jersey Devils, and at the crux of this playoff schedule, it is starting to count. During their first-round Game 1 showing against the
Carolina Hurricanes
, the Devils not only lost 4-1 that day but also saw three of their players encounter injury scars. Now the Devils are up against physical challenges and competitive hurdles heading to Game 2 with an early lead in the series for the Hurricanes.

The Devils' blue line was shaken up at some point during the game when defenseman Luke Hughes briefly left the ice after a collision in the third period. Though he returned later, it was a reminder of how intense the postseason can get. The more worrying injuries were the two other crucial performers who exited the game early: defenseman Brendan Dillon and forward Cody Glass.
Dillon had left in the second period and did not return. His head coach, Sheldon Keefe, later clarified that Dillon's exit from the game was simply precautionary, explaining that the medical staff would not permit him back even though he desperately wanted to rejoin. Meanwhile, Glass ended up leaving in the third and never returned before the game concluded. An immediate update on his condition was not provided, leaving his availability for Game 2 up in the air.
These injuries have further depleted an already-thin list of New Jersey absentees. Jonas Siegenthaler remains on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, expected for a return sometime in May. Meanwhile, star forward Jack Hughes had already been ruled out for the season due to the shoulder injury he sustained in March.
Adding to their woes, the Devils were unable to stymie the Hurricanes' charge forward. With a goal from Nico Hischier, their captain, coming just thirty seconds before the end, the Devils were never ahead and were heavily outshot for the duration of the game.

The Devils have Game 2 scheduled in PNC Arena, but the roster is in dire need of repairs for them to remain alive in the playoffs, on top of dealing with the injury bug. Against a confident Carolina squad already in the lead in the series, the injuries to key players Brendan Dillon and Cody Glass will test New Jersey's depth.

NBA Trade Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Urged to Pursue $60 Million Chicago Bulls Star to Preserve Joel Embiid's Longevity

Nikola Vucevic (Image via Twitter Chicago Bulls) As the 2025-26 NBA season approaches, the Philadelphia 76ers face a familiar concern: keeping Joel Embiid healthy and dominant throughout a long campaign. With Embiid's injury history casting a shadow over the team's playoff hopes, analysts believe the front office must prioritize reducing his workload - starting with a reliable backup center. One compelling name being floated: Nikola Vucevic. A Familiar Issue: Embiid's Health Could Define the Season Joel Embiid is unquestionably one of the league's most dominant forces when he's on the floor. The reigning MVP has built a resume of regular-season brilliance, but his postseason consistency has often been undercut by injuries. The Sixers' championship window depends on finding ways to keep Embiid fresh and available deep into the playoffs. Why Nikola Vucevic Makes Sense for the Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis (Image via Steven M Falk/ Staff Photographer) The idea of acquiring Nikola Vucevic emerged following speculation that the Chicago Bulls could pursue a contract buyout. If that happens, Vucevic could become a key depth piece in the Philadelphia 76ers , giving Embiid a legitimate break without tanking the team's interior presence. In a recent FanSided article, Nicolas Kyle Pring outlined the potential impact of such a move: 'Having said that, Vucevic would be a dream short-term acquisition for a team like the 76ers, which will not need him to do the heavy lifting as he did in Chicago. The Philadelphia 76ers desperately need to ease the load on Embiid, and installing Vucevic as his backup would heavily incentivize the coaching staff into reducing the former's minutes and workload as much as possible,' Pring wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 1 Household Item That Visibly Tightens Saggy Skin GlamourSkin Learn More Undo What Nikola Vucevic Brings to the Table While Nikola Vucevic may not match Embiid's scoring explosiveness, he offers a versatile skill set that could prove invaluable for a second unit. Vucevic's Key Strengths: • Reliable 3-point shooter: Stretches the floor and creates spacing for guards • Solid interior scorer: Effective in the paint with footwork and touch • Experienced veteran: Brings maturity and poise to the locker room • Rebounding presence: Capable of holding his own against other bigs Career Snapshot Category Stat Points 18.5 PPG Rebounds 10.1 RPG Field Goal % 53.0% 3-Point % 40.2% With those numbers, Vucevic could be the best backup Embiid has had in his career - capable of anchoring the second unit and even starting in stretches if needed. Addressing a Long-Standing Need The Sixers have long struggled to find dependable bench depth at center. From DeAndre Jordan to Paul Reed, the rotation behind Embiid has fluctuated in quality and consistency. Vucevic would not only bring production but also alleviate pressure on the coaching staff to ride Embiid hard during the regular season. My Verdict on the Trade: A Deal the Sixers Can't Afford to Miss? While it remains to be seen whether the Bulls will indeed buy out Vucevic, the Sixers would be wise to monitor the situation closely. The long-term viability of their championship hopes rests on Embiid's availability, and adding a player like Vucevic could be the strategic insurance policy they desperately need. NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Predicted to Part Ways with $54 Million Superstar to Improve Squad Around Luka and LeBron

Luka Doncic and LeBron James (Image via Joe Murphy/ Getty Images) As Luka Doncic gears up for his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers , the franchise appears poised to make bold decisions in pursuit of an 18th NBA title. One of those decisions could involve parting ways with rising star Austin Reaves. Luka Doncic's Growing Influence in LA The 26-year-old Doncic has quickly become the centerpiece of the Lakers' future, and his influence was evident in the team's major offseason moves. His presence played a key role in landing both Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton - two players expected to play significant roles in the 2025–26 campaign. Now, with a win-now mindset guiding the franchise, the Lakers are evaluating every asset on their roster. That includes 26-year-old Austin Reaves, who, despite deliveringhis best season yet, may not fit seamlessly alongside Doncic in the long run. The Case for Trading Austin Reaves Reaves averaged a career-high in nearly every major statistical category last season, emerging as a fringe All-Star. Maxwell Ogden of FanSided argued that Reaves' development may soon become a luxury the Lakers can no longer afford: 'If Reaves can't take the next step and justify the nine-figure contract he's likely to sign in 2026, then the Lakers need to trade him by the February deadline,' Ogden wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Victoria Principal Is Almost 75, See Her Now Reportingly Undo 'It's unfair on some levels, but Doncic is looking to win now, and Reaves is their most tradable asset.' Why Reaves Could Be on the Block Despite being undrafted, Reaves has elevated his game to the verge of All-Star status. Yet, his skill set - while impressive - is starting to overlap with Doncic's responsibilities as the primary initiator. Factors Supporting a Potential Trade • Redundant Play Styles: Both Reaves and Doncic operate best with the ball in their hands. • Future Contract Concerns: Reaves is expected to command a nine-figure extension by 2026. • Roster Flexibility: Trading Reaves could help the Lakers acquire a better stylistic fit or multiple rotational pieces. • Doncic's Timeline: Every move now hinges on delivering a title while Doncic is in his prime. Ogden emphasized that Reaves' value might be the key to fulfilling Doncic's expectations: 'Reaves is the player and contract who will ultimately decide if the Lakers can honor Doncic's request to win now.' Reaves may have more room to blossom as a lead guard elsewhere, potentially even earning an All-Star nod on a team built around him. For the Lakers, though, the priority is clear: build the best possible supporting cast around Doncic. And that might mean making tough calls - even if it involves letting go of a fan favorite and breakout performer.
