"Today is a day of triumph for Pakistan's federal unity, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the rights of farmers," said Talpur in a statement.
She pointed out that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's principled leadership and the peaceful protest of the people of Sindh have proven that when the stance is just and the intention is pure, the government is compelled to listen to the people.
Talpur called PM Shehbaz Sharif's announcement to halt work on new canals and the decision to convene the CCI meeting on May 2 a wise and prudent step.
"The Prime Minister's stance is a positive move towards strengthening democratic traditions, recognising provincial autonomy, and empowering constitutional institutions," she noted.

Listen to article Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani on Sunday reiterated that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is not limited to rural constituencies but represents all major cities of Sindh. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Malir Union Football Stadium. He said development schemes worth billions of rupees were being executed across Karachi and the province, and expressed hope they would be completed within the current financial year. Ghani also inaugurated two other projects, including a community centre built by TMC Malir. He said these facilities had been established for the convenience of residents and would run efficiently. Several similar schemes across Karachi districts were also expected to be completed soon, he added. Members of the Sindh Assembly Raja Razzaq and Saleem Baloch, Malir Town Chairman Jan Mohammad Baloch, Ibrahim Hyderi Town Chairman Nazir Bhutto, Imdad Jokhio, and other elected representatives, local PPP leaders and residents attended the ceremony. Highlighting PPP's historical presence in Malir, Ghani said the area had produced prominent party leaders and that PPP had always defended local interests. The party had won the highest number of seats in District Malir during elections, he noted. He called Shahrah-e-Bhutto one of the city's best development schemes, benefiting four districts simultaneously, with its final phase up to Kathore due for completion by December. Referring to the K-IV project, he said it was delayed due to flaws in the initial design, which lacked key pumping and power stations. He added that work was disrupted during Imran Khan's tenure over allegations of corruption based on cost escalation. Now, with the PML-N in power, work had resumed under WAPDA, with Rs 70 billion allocated for Karachi's internal water supply. He hoped the project would be completed on time. Ghani also announced that water supply from the Hub Canal would resume on 14 August and that Sindh had requested an increased quota from Hub Dam. Dismissing criticism that PPP only worked in its strongholds, he said the party had spent billions on infrastructure even in areas where it had not won a single councillor's seat. He called PPP the largest urban political force in Sindh, noting that it had won local government elections in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, and Larkana, with all Sindh mayors now from PPP. He said ongoing water and sewerage projects were progressing swiftly and would be completed in the coming months. On Independence Day preparations, Ghani said the nation was celebrating it as a 'Day of Victory'. He praised the armed forces and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for diplomatic efforts that countered Indian misinformation. He urged citizens to actively take part in Independence Day programmes. Replying to questions, he said work on the Quaidabad bridge would soon be completed, easing commuter movement. He reaffirmed PPP's commitment to Sindh's development and lauded both military achievements and Bilawal's diplomatic gains.

Unjust police certificates stigmatise acquitted citizens: LHC
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has recently observed that issuing a police character (PS) certificate reflecting a criminal history of an accused despite his acquittal by a court of law in an FIR violates the individual's constitutionally protected right. The court said such a practice not only violates the individual's protected right to human dignity but also imposes a lasting and unjust stigma upon a citizen who has been exonerated through due judicial process. The court said, once an accused has been acquitted by a competent court of law, he is to be considered, treated and regarded as innocent person under the law. Despite a conclusive acquittal of an accused any continuous reference or inclusion of the relevant FIR in official documents like police character certificate is unwarranted, the court observed. The court passed this order in a petition of Abdur Rehman Faryad challenging issuance of a PC certificate mentioning his name in the FIR despite his acquittal by a competent court of law. The court said the petitioner is entitled to a PC certificate that reflects his acquittal and the absence of any subsisting criminal liability. The court said the allegations levelled against the petitioner do not involve moral turpitude, nor do they relate to any offence against the State. The court said it would be legally unjustified to draw any adverse inference or attach any stigma to the petitioner merely based on the registration of an FIR. The court; therefore, directed the Home Secretary Punjab to ensure the issuance of a PC certificate in favour of the petitioner, which accurately reflects his present legal status. The said certificate shall exclude and omit any reference whatsoever to FIR registered at Police Station Nawan Kot, Lahore, in the light of the petitioner's lawful acquittal and the absence of any existing criminal liability, the court added. The court noted that law enforcement agencies have the administrative authority to maintain internal records of reported incidents, including FIRs, for various legitimate purposes. The court said the retention of such data, so long as it is confined to lawful administrative use and is not disclosed or misused in a manner prejudicial to the rights of the individual and cannot be construed as a violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution. The court; therefore, directed the office to transmit copy of the court order to the Inspector General of Police Punjab and the Chief Secretary Punjab, to ensure its strict implementation in light of the court's directions and observations. FY25 audit report: Concerns voiced over non-independence of AGP Office
ISLAMABAD: The Audit Report for 2024–25 has raised serious concerns over the continued non-independence of the Office of the Attorney-General for Pakistan (AGP), despite explicit directives issued by the prime minister nearly seven years ago. The report highlights that the AGP, a constitutional office under Article 100 of the Constitution, continues to operate as an attached department of the Ministry of Law and Justice rather than as a separate division, as mandated. According to the report, the Prime Minister's Office, via Letter No 658/SAPM/2018 dated May 30, 2018, approved in principle the reorganisation of the AGP's office as an independent division. The directive also sought to provide legal cover to the AGP's role in the appointment of law officers. However, auditors found that these orders have yet to be implemented, which, they noted, undermines the constitutional status of the Attorney-General's office. The audit report termed this continued subordination of the AGP to the Law Division a violation of the prime minister's order and recommended immediate corrective measures to ensure compliance with both the Constitution and the PM's directive. In its response to the audit, the AGP Office acknowledged that a similar observation was made in the 2018–19 and 2019–20 audit cycles. It stated that the matter was taken up with the Law and Justice Division and subsequently, referred to the Cabinet Division for a final decision. The case remains pending. A Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) meeting held on February 6, 2025, directed that the issue be referred to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for further deliberation. The auditors have recommended that immediate steps be taken to formalise the AGP's independent status in line with constitutional provisions and the prime minister's instructions.
