President Sisi affirms necessity of continuing work on alleviating burden on people
The president underscored the importance of continuing the implementation of presidential initiatives to support the most needy and vulnerable segments to ensure meeting people's needs, in particular throughout the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
He also emphasized the necessity of ongoing cooperation with the private sector to provide premium quality products at affordable prices.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority Ahmed el Shazly and Executive Director of the "Future of Egypt" Authority for Sustainable Development Bahaa el Ghannam.
The meeting addressed the strategic stockpile of commodities and food products, in coordination with Future of Egypt for Authority for sustainable development, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy.
The meeting tackled regular coordination among bodies concerned to ensure the provision of basic commodities at affordable prices and regulating markets to support people, the spokesman added.
Efforts to expand social protection networks and reform the subsidy system, through including all eligible beneficiaries and excluding those who are not entitled, were discussed during the meeting, Shennawy said.
He added that directives were issued to add beneficiaries of the "Takaful" and "Karama" programs, as well as the children of martyrs, to the restructured subsidy system.
President Sisi underlined the importance of governing the procedures of the subsidy system by adopting best mechanisms meant to ensure access of beneficiaries to services.
He emphasized the significance of turning Egypt into a regional logistics hub for the trade of strategic goods, which would strengthen its economic position on both the regional and international levels.
Meanwhile, the supply minister reviewed the status of strategic reserve of basic goods, noting that it is sufficient for six months.
President Sisi directed ensuring sustainable food security, increase the strategic reserves of goods, and strengthen market monitoring to prevent the monopoly of essential goods.

Al-Sisi ratifies amendments to Old Rent Law
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has ratified Law No. 165/2025, amending certain provisions of Law No. 4/1996 regarding the application of the Civil Code to properties that have never been rented before, or whose lease contracts have ended—or will end—without granting any party the right to remain in them. The law will come into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette. A newly added Article (2 bis) stipulates that the tenant—or their general or specific successor—must vacate the rented property and return it to the owner or lessor at the end of the lease term specified in the contract. Should the tenant refuse, the owner or lessor may request the summary judge of the competent court to issue an eviction order, without prejudice to the right to claim compensation if applicable. The Egyptian House of Representatives gave final approval to the government-proposed amendments in early July, aiming to resolve longstanding legal and economic challenges associated with old rent agreements. Under the new law, a transitional period has been set before the termination of these contracts: seven years for residential units and five years for non-residential units rented by natural persons. This is intended as a step towards liberalising rental relations between landlords and tenants. At the end of the transitional period, tenants will be required to vacate the units and return them to the owners. The law also confirms that all previous legislation regulating old rent agreements will be repealed after this period. New rental contracts thereafter will fall under the provisions of the Civil Code, ensuring freedom of contract between landlords and tenants. The Old Rent Law has been the subject of widespread debate in recent years. Supporters—mainly property owners—argue it has caused decades of injustice and financial loss due to outdated, fixed rental values. Meanwhile, opponents—primarily long-term tenants—express concern over eviction and the challenge of meeting significantly higher rental prices under new agreements.

Egyptians vote in two-day Senate election with key list unopposed
Polling stations opened across Egypt on Monday for a two-day election for the country's Senate, a vote in which a major political coalition is running uncontested for the 100 seats allocated to party lists. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi cast his ballot on Monday morning at the Martyr Moustafa Yosri Omira school in the Heliopolis district of Cairo. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly also voted in Sheikh Zayed City, west of the capital, and called on all voters to participate in what he described as a 'constitutional right and a national duty'. Madbouly said the state had taken all necessary measures to ensure the electoral process proceeds in a secure and orderly manner across the country's 8,825 polling stations. Voting for Egyptians inside the country continues until polls close on Tuesday, 5 August. Egyptians living abroad cast their ballots on Friday and Saturday at embassies and consulates. The election is for 200 of the Senate's 300 seats. A total of 424 candidates are competing for 100 seats allocated to individuals after four candidates withdrew their nominations. The other 100 elected seats are allocated to party lists. A single coalition, the 'National List for Egypt,' which is led by the pro-government Mostaqbal Watan (Nation's Future) party and includes 12 other parties, is running for the 100 list-based seats across the four designated constituencies. This list is considered to have won by default, provided it secures at least 5% of the total valid votes. The remaining 100 members of the chamber will be appointed by the president after the election. The Senate, formerly known as the Shura Council, was abolished under constitutional amendments in 2014 but reinstated following further amendments in 2019. It functions as a semi-advisory body, tasked with studying and proposing ways to strengthen democracy and social peace. It also provides opinions on constitutional amendments and draft laws before they are referred to the House of Representatives for final approval. Results and timeline According to the schedule set by the National Election Authority (NEA), the initial results of the first round will be announced on 12 August. Appeals will be heard by the Supreme Administrative Court between 15 and 24 August. Should any of the individual seats require a run-off election, a second round of voting will take place for Egyptians abroad on 25-26 August and inside Egypt on 27-28 August. The final results of the election are scheduled to be announced and published in the official gazette on 4 September. The NEA said it had made preparations to facilitate voting, particularly for the elderly and people with disabilities. For the first time, instructions on the ballot paper will be written in sign language to assist hearing-impaired voters. The election is being held under the supervision of 9,500 members of judicial bodies. It is the first national election to take place after the end of a 10-year transitional period mandated by the 2014 constitution, which required full supervision of elections by members of the judiciary. That period ended in January 2024. The last major election in Egypt was the presidential vote in December 2023, which saw a turnout of 66.8%, with 44.7 million people casting ballots from a total of 67 million registered voters. Elections for the House of Representatives, the primary chamber of parliament, are expected to be held in November.
