, edged up in April, according to data released by a government-affiliated research company on Friday.
Calculations based on the data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that April shipments of foreign-branded phones in China rose to 3.52 million units from 3.50 million a year earlier.
As the largest foreign mobile phone maker in China's smartphone-dominated market, Apple's performance plays a significant role in the overall data on foreign-branded phone sales in the country.
The uptick in April comes after a sluggish first quarter in which Apple's phone sales in China dropped 9 per cent .
Apple has faced increased competition from domestic rivals and has resorted to price cuts to stay competitive. Chinese ecommerce platforms are offering discounts of up to 2,530 yuan ($351) on Apple's latest iPhone 16 models earlier this month.

A group of US senators has issued a stern warning to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang regarding his upcoming trip to China, a report has said. In a letter sent on Friday, Republican Senator Jim Banks and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Huang to refrain from meeting with Chinese companies suspected of undermining US chip export controls or those with ties to Beijing's military and intelligence bodies. They also specifically cautioned against engaging with entities on the US restricted export list, according to a report by news agency Reuters. 'We are worried that your trip to the PRC could legitimise companies that cooperate closely with the Chinese military or involve discussing exploitable gaps in US export controls," the senators reportedly wrote, highlighting concerns about potential circumvention of critical US technology safeguards. Now, early leaks have begun to surface about its potential successor, expected to launch as the iQOO 15. According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, a series of new details have emerged about what the iQOO 15 might offer when it debuts later this year. Digital Chat Station says that the iQOO 15 could offer a 2.2K display with a large and straight (flat) screen. The iQOO 13 also offered a flat display, so it would be nothing out of the ordinary if the iQOO 15 also offers a flat display. On the display, it would actually deliver a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which will be quite reminiscent of the iQOO 13 as well, because the iQOO 13 too comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
