Boston Celtics lose free agent forward to the Charlotte Hornets
Peterson played in 15 games for Maine last season. He averaged 20 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6 assists, shooting 40.4% from 3-point range and 44.2% from the field. The 6-foot-9 forward also suited up in 25 contests for the Celtics, where he shot 39.4% from the 3-point line. However, Peterson has now made the decision to move on from Boston.
According to a July 15 report from ESPN's Shams Charania, Peterson has signed a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets. He will now team back up with Charles Lee, with whom he worked throughout the 2023-24 season when both were with the Celtics.
Charlotte is in the very early stages of a roster rebuild. Peterson likely sees an opportunity to impress in the G League and potentially earn his way into Lee's rotation, with the hope of landing a full-time NBA contract. After coming close to cracking Boston's highly competitive roster last season, he is smart to bet on himself with the Hornets.
Peterson has made a move that could benefit his career. Now, the challenge is proving himself to a new coaching staff. If he can stay focused, he could be fighting for a rotational role in the NBA before too long.

The family could have filed criminal charges against Malone for impregnating a minor because, in Louisiana, an individual could not consent to sex until the age of 17. While statutory rape could have carried a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, Malone was a 'neighborhood kid', so they didn't press charges. His actions are absolutely heinous and should make it hard for the NBA to look themselves in the mirror after honoring this man two years in a row. But the story doesn't stop there for Malone and his awful shortcomings. When the child's grandparents filed a lawsuit in 1985 requesting $200 a week to help their daughter raise their son, Malone did not respond, despite his career earnings topping $104 million. He was ordered to pay $125 per week in child support, but he appealed, eventually reaching a settlement that did not require him to acknowledge that he was the father. Strand reacting to the birthday wishes with a meme video of content creator Lil Rodney Son saying "Oh no, see, that's what we not about to do." Also in the video responding to the post about Malone, Lil Rodney Son is on camera saying someone belongs "under the jail" for their actions. To be fair, we don't know exactly why Wembanyama chose to repost this. Remember: Reposts do not equal endorsements (which is now officially the case, as decided by a judge) so unless Wembanyama directly says something about the matter, we do not know his feelings. But many, including Complex, are speculating that Wemby would like the league to distance itself from Malone. Even this, though, is more than most (if not all) prominent basketball players have said about this difficult topic. So perhaps just the speculation that the rising star wants no part of Malone is enough for the NBA to listen.

Beer and food workers on strike at Fenway for homestand between Dodgers and Red Sox
BOSTON (AP) — Hundreds of Aramark workers at Fenway Park are on strike and planning to stay out for all of a homestand between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers starting Friday night. Concession workers had set a deadline of noon Friday for Aramark and Fenway Park to reach an agreement with the Local 26 chapter of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island hotel, casino, airport and food services workers union. The union went on strike at noon asking for 'living wages, guardrails on technology and R-E-S-P-E-C-T!' With the Red Sox and Dodgers scheduled to start at 7:10 p.m. EDT, union officials had a request for fans attending this homestand with food and beer workers on strike. 'We're asking you to NOT buy concessions inside the ballpark,' Local 26 wrote on social media. 'Tailgate before the games!' Union workers walked the picket line wearing green T-shirts declaring 'FENWAY WORKERS ON STRIKE.' They carried signs in the shape of a baseball proclaiming Local 26. Red Sox rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer goes on 10-day IL with right wrist sprain
Rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain by the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Mayer, 22, sustained the injury in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He drew a two-out walk against Jesús Luzardo in the fifth inning, but hurt his wrist while swinging and missing at a slider during the at-bat. He didn't come out of the game immediately, running the bases and coming around to score on a Romy González grand slam. But Abraham Toro took over at third base in the bottom of the inning. 'I just felt a little tight grab in my wrist when I took a swing in my second at-bat,' Mayer told MassLive's Chris Cotillo afterward. 'I knew I really couldn't do anything after that so I just called it.' A natural shortstop, Mayer has mostly played third base while Alex Bregman was on the IL with a right quad strain. He's also played at second base and made a couple of appearances at shortstop during his 44 games. Mayer was Boston's 2021 first-round pick (No. 4 overall) and was called up on May 25 when Bregman went on the IL. Ranked as the Red Sox's No. 3 prospect before the season by Mayer has struggled with his hitting as a rookie, batting .228/.272/.402 with eight doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI in 136 plate appearances. Infielder David Hamilton was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take Mayer's spot on the active roster. He was on the major league roster until Bregman was activated from the IL on July 11. Hamilton's best asset is his speed with 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts. He batted .179/.229/.276 in 133 plate appearances before being demoted. Bregman (.290 avg., .899 OPS) will start at third base for the Red Sox on Friday's series opener versus the Los Angeles Dodgers with Ceddanne Rafaela (.270 avg., .780 OPS) playing at second base. Boston is currently third in the AL East at 55-49, 6.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays (61-42) and two games behind the second-place New York Yankees (56-46).
