Operation Muskaan XI launched in Cyberabad
The 11th edition of the operation will be carried out till July 31. A total of 11 dedicated teams, each comprising a Sub-Inspector and four constables (including a woman constable), have been constituted to carry out rescue and rehabilitation missions.
Cyberabad Women and Children's Safety Wing Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Srujana announced that the police would use facial recognition software 'Darpan' to identify the missing and unidentified children. 'The application will help us trace children who have been separated from their families due to various circumstances,' she said.
'We have identified clusters/hotspots where children were previously found forced into labour, based on data from earlier cases where teams will now coordinate the rescue and rehabilitation work,' she said.
Among those present at the meeting were senior officials from Child Welfare committees of Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts, District Child Protection units, Health officials, and representatives of Bala Raksha Bhavan and the Association for Voluntary Action.

103 women, girls go missing in Maha daily, nearly 90% traced
1 2 Nagpur: Ninety per cent of 103 women and girls going missing every day between April 2024 and March 2025 (37,695 in all) in Maharashtra were traced, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state legislative council on Wednesday. In Nagpur city alone, 5,897 people — including 4,923 women and girls — were reported missing between January 2024 and May 2025. Of these, 5,210 persons were located, pushing Nagpur's recovery rate in missing person cases to over 90%, and in some instances as high as 97%. Fadnavis said dedicated operations like 'Operation Muskaan' and 'Operation Shodh' significantly improved the recovery rate across the state, with Nagpur emerging as one of the top-performing regions. "Targeted campaigns like Operation Muskaan and Operation Shodh have delivered visible results. Nagpur's success rate under these initiatives is among the highest," Fadnavis said while replying to a question by various legislators. Fadnavis said that following Supreme Court guidelines, an FIR must be filed mandatorily in all missing person cases. "If a child is missing, it is immediately registered as a kidnapping case. This has improved police accountability and response time," he said. To institutionalise efforts, the state has established Missing Cells at every police station, headed by a woman officer. IPS officers at the rank of additional director general (ADG) now directly monitor missing cases and women's safety. The CM acknowledged that human trafficking remains a concern and said the govt is working to break such networks. Fadnavis also highlighted the role of Bharosa one-stop centres, which provide shelter, legal help, and counselling to women who leave home due to domestic or family issues. Schools are being targeted through the 'Police Kaka-Didi' initiative to educate children about safety, including procedures related to missing cases.

Over 37K women, girls reported missing in Maharashtra during FY25: Govt
The Maharashtra Police Services for Citizens Portal recorded missing complaints of 37,695 women and girls, of which 4,096 were below the age of 18 years, from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday. In a written reply to a question in the legislative council, Fadnavis, who hold the home portfolio, informed the house that from 2021 to May 2025, as many as 16,160 cases were registered with police related to sexual assault and harassment of minor girls. "The Maharashtra Police Services for Citizens Portal registered missing complaints of 4,096 girls below the age of 18 years and 33,599 women from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025," he said. Nagpur city recorded 5,897 complaints related to missing people from January 2024 to May 2025, of which 776 were children, according to the CM. In an oral reply, Fadnavis said of the 5,897 missing persons, nearly 5,210, representing 90 per cent of the total, were traced. In a year-and-a-half, the number of those traced goes to 96-97 per cent, but 3-4 per cent remain untraceable. If a missing person happens to be a minor, then a case of kidnapping has to be registered with police as per Supreme Court guidelines, the CM noted. Fadnavis said the police started 'Operation Shodh' from April 17 to May 15, 2025 during which 4,960 women and 1,364 children were traced. Of these, 106 women and 703 were reported missing in police records. Similarly, under Operation Muskaan, launched to trace missing children, as many as 41,193 minors were traced between July 2015 and December 2024, he added.
