Roger Penske has new leadership in IndyCar team after latest cheating scandal at Indy 500
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Team Penske has new leadership structure atop its IndyCar and sports car programs in the wake of its latest cheating scandal that engulfed the organization at the Indianapolis 500.
Jonathan Diuguid has been promoted to president of Penske Racing, and Travis Law has been named competition director for Penske Racing. Diuguid and Law have a combined 38 years of experience at Team Penske. Diuguid and Law will oversee the Team Penske teams competing in IndyCar as well as Porsche Penske Motorsport, which races in both IMSA and the World Endurance Championship series.
'After two decades working for Roger Penske, I truly know and understand what the Penske name means in the world of motorsports,' Diuguid said. 'The best way I know to show my appreciation to him for his trust is to ensure our success continues well into the future.'
Roger Penske fired his top three executives at Team Penske after two of the Penske cars were found to be illegal.
Team president Tim Cindric, IndyCar managing director Ron Ruzewski and IndyCar general manager Kyle Moyer were fired in May in the wake of this Indianapolis 500 cheating scandal.
Penske is owner of the three-car team, IndyCar, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500. He has won the Indy 500 a record 20 times.
Penske shook up his race team leadership after two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden and teammate Will Power were found to have an illegally modified spec part on their cars ahead the final round of qualifications for the 109th running of 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'
Cindric and Ruzewski already had been suspended by IndyCar for the race and both teams fined $100,000. It was the second consecutive year Cindric and Ruzewski were suspended from the Indy 500.

Azura Stevens' double-double lifts Sparks over Fever
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Azura Stevens scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds, Kelsey Plum added 20 points and the Los Angeles Sparks won at Indianapolis for the second time in nine days, defeating the Fever, minus Caitlin Clark, 89-87 on Saturday night. Since dominating the fourth quarter en route to an 85-75 win , the Sparks had lost two straight. The Fever had won three, including the Commissioner's Cup , without Clark. She missed her fifth consecutive game with a groin injury. This game was close throughout. The Sparks' biggest lead was three points in the first quarter, and the Fever went up by eight midway through the third. Dearica Hamby scored 18 points for the Sparks (6-13) and Rickea Jackson added 15, including the go-ahead basket that made it 88-87 with 57.4 seconds left. Indiana missed its last five shots, four in the final minute. Stevens rebounded a miss and was fouled, making a free throw with 3.3 seconds to go. The Fever used their reset timeout but Aliyah Boston missed a shot from the top of the key. LYNX 82, VALKYRIES 71 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Napheesa Collier scored 22 points and Minnesota topped Golden State. The Valkyrie took a 56-54 lead in the middle of the third quarter with a 10-0 run that started with a pair of 3-pointers by Tiffany Hayes but the Lynx closed with a 15-4 run to take a 69-60 lead into the fourth quarter. Minnesota pushed the lead to 78-63 on Kayla McBride's 3-pointer with 4:16 to play. Courtney Williams scored 15 points for the Lynx (16-2) and McBride added 12. Hayes had a season-high 23 points for Golden State (9-8), which had won two straight and four of five. Kayla Thornton scored 13 points, but only two after the first quarter. Stephanie Talbot added 10.

FIFA cuts ticket price to $13.40 for Club World Cup semifinal between Chelsea and Fluminense
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — FIFA cut standard ticket prices for the semifinal between Chelsea and Fluminense at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Tuesday to $13.40 from $473.90 earlier in the past week. FIFA has used dynamic pricing for the 63-game tournament. Standard ticket prices for Wednesday's semifinal between European champion Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in New Jersey start at $199.60. FIFA had dropped ticket prices to $11.15 for a quarterfinal in Orlando, Florida, between Fluminense and Al Hilal. and in Philadelphia between Chelsea and Palmeiras. The dramatic drop in prices was first reported by The Athletic. Many matches during the tournament have had sparse crowds.
