Sonal Chauhan credits Anushka Sharma for bringing out Virat Kohli's ‘spiritual side': ‘I think she is a calming factor…'; how partners can play a role

Indian Express29-04-2025
Sonal Chauhan, who recently attended a Mumbai Indians match at the Indian Premier League, has opened up about how she would greet Virat Kohli if she were to bump into him. In an interview, the Jannat actor said, 'I would say Jai Shri Ram and Har Har Mahadev, since he is right now being very religious. I am seeing a lot of his reels where he's exploring that spiritual side of his.'
Crediting the actor and Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, for the change in him, she told Filmygyan, 'I think it's the right woman in his life who is bringing out the spiritual side in him. I think not just the right partner, but when you are surrounded by the right people, positive people, it reflects on your personality also. I think she is a calming factor in his life.'
Notably, Kohli and Sharma have been spotted visiting spiritual places, including the ashram of Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan and Neem Karoli Baba's ashram in Nainital, as well as the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. They also attended American vocalist Krishna Das' kirtan in London and Mumbai.
But what exactly is spirituality?
Soma Chatterjee, an internationally certified Reiki master teacher and founder of Inner Wisdom Light, shared that spirituality is a journey within, connecting us to our sense of purpose and inner peace. 'And when you get the right environment to thrive, you can fuel your inner growth. Just like when a plant gets the right amount of water, nutritious soil, and sunlight, it feels nurtured and can grow, likewise, when the right people surround the external world, you can take care of your internal world, and therefore flourish in all areas of your life,' Chatterjee told indianexpress.com.
She also emphasised that having a partner who encourages your spiritual growth is 'deeply important.' 'Mostly because their support creates a safe and nurturing emotional environment. When your partner respects and uplifts your spiritual journey, it not only strengthens your bond but also gives you the confidence to explore and express your spiritual side without fear or judgment. Their encouragement validates your experiences, keeps you grounded, and reminds you that you're not alone on this path,' said Chatterjee.

According to her, humans have a lot of 'potential within us and the infinite possibilities we can create in our lives'. 'We limit our belief, lower our standards, and get too influenced by what's happening around us. If we take time to calm down, and become present within ourselves and listen to the intelligence within, then anything is possible and for anyone,' said Chatterjee.
Chatterjee mentioned that a good start is when one can create a positive dialogue within and practice it as a daily habit.
'When you are consistent with a habit, you are working towards a responsibility that can help you find balance. This helps take charge of yourself and live a life that you desire, full of self-control, peace, and joy,' shared Chatterjee.

Return to old Dukes, end saliva ban: Kumble on ball-controversy at Lord's

Former India captain Anil Kumble has called for changes in cricket regulations, including lifting the ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball and restoring the quality of the Duke's ball. His remarks come amid mounting criticism in the ongoing third Test between England and India at Lord's, where issues with the Dukes ball have raised India's bowling innings on Day 2, the visitors were forced to change the ball twice within a 10-over span due to excessive wear and loss of shape — a rare and concerning development in Test cricket. The repeated ball changes prompted players and experts to question the manufacturing quality of the current batch of Duke's to ESPNCricinfo, Kumble said, 'Yes, it is only fair that the ball is getting soft or needs to be changed because it's getting out of shape consistently and too frequently. Something needs to be done for sure. If it doesn't last 10 overs, repeatedly changing the ball is not a good thing — not just for cricket, but the ball as well.' The legendary leg-spinner added that a possible solution could be returning to the manufacturing standards from previous years.'I guess it is fair that you bring back what is available from five years ago,' he said, backing calls for restoring the earlier version of the Dukes ball, which was renowned for its durability and consistent views echoed those of former England seamer Stuart Broad, who had earlier criticised the ball's performance, suggesting that Dukes should revisit their production standards to bring the ball back to its swinging SALIVA BANIn a related suggestion, Kumble urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to lift the ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball — a restriction implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and still in effect for international matches.'That'll certainly help — shine the ball better and make it reverse at least,' Kumble said. 'Today, there aren't many occasions where the ball reverses, especially in these conditions.'He pointed to the dry pitches and hot weather during the Lord's Test, suggesting such conditions should normally encourage reverse swing, but noted that hasn't been the case, largely due to the inability to maintain the ball's 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) had already scrapped the saliva ban, and Kumble said the move was welcomed by bowlers across the tournament — another indication that the global game might benefit from following concerns mount over balance between bat and ball in Test cricket, Kumble's remarks add weight to growing calls for restoring tools bowlers have traditionally relied upon. The ICC has yet to formally comment on any potential reversal of the saliva ban or steps to address the ball-quality issues.- EndsMust Watch

Wimbledon 2025: Carlos Alcaraz one step away from hat-trick of titles at SW19, has Jannik Sinner in wait

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz (AP Photo/Kin Cheung) London: The only thing that burned brighter than the London sun on a blazing Friday afternoon was Carlos Alcaraz's tennis. The Spaniard had 38 winners in his two-hour 48-minute tussle against the fifth seed Taylor Fritz, but each of those strikes stood out, sparkling with a different spin. Alcaraz's mélange is so great, it's almost unfair. The two-time defending champion scored a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (6) win that took him to his third consecutive Wimbledon final in just his fifth appearance on Church Road. Alcaraz will take on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in Sunday's title match, in what will be a repeat of the Roland Garros final a month ago. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Djokovic, who had a nasty fall in his quarterfinal match, wasn't at his best in the last-four clash, and had a trainer on court. 'It was a really difficult match, tough with the conditions,' Alcaraz said. 'I'm just happy in the four sets, saving two set points.' Alcaraz used a sprinkling of his best shots to serve notice of his intentions at the get-go. The 22-year-old came up with angles and line balls, shots that posed questions to the 6 ft 5' American in the opening game of the match, breaking just as the starter's gun fired. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo He backed the break with service holds, which were a combination of bold and explosive play. Fritz, who looked a tad unready initially, settled into the match, but it was too late for the first set. Poll Who do you think will win the Wimbledon final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner? Carlos Alcaraz Jannik Sinner It's too close to call On a warm Friday afternoon, when the bounce was as true as it can be on a live surface, Alcaraz was taken to deuce for the first time in the match in the fourth game of the second set. Four games later Fritz had a breakpoint, but it wasn't until the 12th game that the Spaniard was broken. Alcaraz fell behind 0-30, and with his nerves fluttering like the hand fans in the stands, the second seed double faulted and Fritz stepped on the line to push home the opportunity. The 27-year-old took a rather relaxed toilet break at the end of the set, maybe he needed to change, it was a warm day after all, but that time away from the court gave Alcaraz the momentum Fritz had fought long and hard to claim. The Spaniard was out of his chair and waiting at the baseline when the American returned. Fritz managed the first hold, but was broken in the third and again in the ninth game. In the fourth set, Fritz hung tough, but Alcaraz was flying, he looked so ahead of his opponent, you could tell from all that came off his racket strings, that he had sniffed the finish line. It was the sheer strength of the American's will that took the set to tie-break. Fritz, who had 19 aces and 44 winners in the match, also had 24 unforced errors, which was par for the course given how big he was forced to go. The fifth seed won five straight points, from 1-4 down to give himself a chance to serve out the set, but Alcaraz roared back into the shootout, winning the next four points. Some of Alcaraz's statistics match the audacity of his match play. With his win on Friday, he extended his win streak against top-five opponents to six matches. This was his 24th consecutive tour-level match win, and 20th consecutive Wimbledon win. 'I'm not thinking about the winning streak,' Alcaraz said of the joy that his tennis sparks. Meanwhile, in the girls under-14, Jensi Deepakbhai Kanabar, went down 4-6, 6-7 (4) in her second round-robin match. Catch Manika Batra's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 3. Watch Here!
