Cisco says open to 'opportunistic acquisitions' to achieve vision
Cisco
that it is ready to acquire companies opportunistically, strategically aligning to achieve a broader vision.
"If an acquisition can help accelerate achieving vision, then we won't be shy to apply our knowledge into it," Jeetu Patel, President and Chief Product Officer at
Cisco Systems
, told ET, adding that the company's "acquisition strategy is opportunistic."
In more than 30 years, the US multinational acquired over 200 mid-to-large sized companies.
Cisco is aggressively driving its artificial intelligence (AI)-led portfolio across networking, security and data centres.
Last year, San Jose-based Cisco acquired

AI-driven portfolio
and future-proof its customers. The merger enabled Cisco to become one of the largest software companies worldwide.
"If something comes up that we think is going to go on further or pause, we won't be shy to deploy our balance sheet, but otherwise we are building, we are going to be great builders first, and we will acquire opportunistically when we want to make sure that we can augment in the building exercise," the top executive said.
Back in 2020, it had also acquired ThousandEyes Inc., a cloud intelligence platform provider to offer customers a visibility into the digital delivery of applications and services over the internet, enabling them to find deficiencies and improve network and application performance across enterprise and cloud networks.
In 2017, Cisco acquired
AppDynamics

The company said that it is reinventing infrastructure for the next wave of AI.
"The success of AI as we go forward is this notion of trust where safety and security are prerequisites for AI taking off," Patel said separately.
"Cisco is the infrastructure provider that's going to work with the ecosystem for AI build-outs and we are going to make sure that we help with the transition to the agentic era for every company of every size whether it's a hyperscaler, neocloud, service provider or an enterprise of any size or scale."
With an array of innovations around feature-proofing workplaces, Cisco said that it has refreshed and simplified its portfolio to make it more user-friendly. Not under investigations, matter relates to India Cements: UltraTech on CCI direction
NEW DELHI: The country's leading cement maker UltraTech, on Saturday said it is not under investigation by the fair trade regulator CCI over alleged contravention of competition norms in tenders floated by state-run oil major ONGC. "It is clarified that the Company is not under investigation in this Case No. 35 of 2020 before the Competition Commission of India ("CCI"). The company has neither received any order from the CCI in this case nor have the company's financials been sought by the CCI," said the Aditya Birla group flagship firm in a BSE filing. It further said that its newly acquired entity India Cements Ltd (ICEM) is a party in case No 35 of 2020 and the South-India-based manufacturer is exploring legal options over the same. "The India Cements Ltd (ICL), a subsidiary of the Company, is party to Case No. 35 of 2020 and is separately making appropriate disclosures in this regard, while exploring legal options," it said. India Cements, which was earlier promoted by the Srinivasan family, was acquired by UltraTech in December 2024. It had acquired a 32.72 per cent stake from promoters and promoter group entities, along with a 22.77 per cent stake from the market of the Tamil Nadu-based company. Meanwhile, in a separate filing on Saturday, India Cements said it is "yet to receive a full version of the investigation report of the Director General, under the Competition Act, 2002". It is currently assessing its legal options and "there is no finding by the CCI at this stage against ICEM and no financial penalty has been levied". Earlier, in May this year, CCI had directed India Cements, along with Dalmia Bharat Cements and Shree Digvijay Cements and their executives to submit financial documents, after its Director General in its investigations found contravention of competition norms. The CCI direction came over a complaint filed by ONGC alleging cartelisation in its tender. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has also directed to submit their audited financial statement, including balance sheet and profit and loss account, within eight weeks of the order. Besides, CCI has also directed their executives to submit detailed financials and income tax records for five years, along with formal responses to the investigation report. On Friday, Dalmia Bharat, in a regulatory filing, said CCI is yet to hear in the matter or pass any formal order. "DCBL remains committed to full regulatory compliance and is cooperating with the authorities," it said. The CCI direction came over a complaint filed by ONGC alleging cartelisation in its tenders. Following this, the fair trade regulator had on November 18, 2020, directed its probe unit Director General to look into the issue. The DG had submitted the report of its investigation on February 18, 2025, in which found contraventions of the competition regulations. It had found that India Cements, along with Shree Digvijay Cement and Dalmia Cement, with a middleman named Umakant Agarwal, engaged in anti-competitive collusion. Later, CCI on May 26, 2025, considered the investigation report and in a four-page order also directed the cement manufacturer to submit income derived from sales to alleged contraventions by the PSU. The CCI notice also mentioned if there is non-furnishing of the financial details or incomplete/false information, within the time frame by the companies, then they would be liable under section 45 of the Act.

"India's macroeconomic foundation remains solid": Angel One founder affirms confidence amid Jane Street probe
New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Dinesh Thakkar, Founder and Chairman-MD of brokerage firm Angel One, affirmed confidence in India's financial markets, asserting that the domestic market landscape is not dependent on any one firm. These remarks from Thakkar come close on the heels of SEBI alleging Jane Street, a US-based investment firm, of index manipulation. In the 105-page interim order dated July 3, SEBI has imposed to recovery of one of the highest ever illegal gains made by the Group worth Rs 4,843.57 crore. 'With millions of active retail traders and deepening institutional activity, India's market opportunity is structural, not cyclical and certainly not dependent on any one firm,' the Angel One founder wrote on LinkedIn, affirming bullishness on the market dynamics. 'India's macroeconomic foundation remains solid. Political stability, favourable demographics, strong domestic consumption, rising domestic capital flows and low inflation continue to support high liquidity and sustained market participation,' he added in his post. 'When one player exits, others step in and often, very fast!' On Friday, Angel One Ltd shares closed at Rs 2,773.50, down 6 per cent. Further, Thakkar also referred to a recent Reuters report that said global trading giants are expanding into India, setting up local entities, hiring talent, and investing in infrastructure. These, according to Thakkar, will help shield India from global turmoil sparked by trade policies, given a large domestic consumer and investor base in India. 'Over the years, India has consistently evolved as a market built on transparency and investor protection. SEBI's clampdown will bring sharper compliance and more robust governance thus, strengthening market integrity and raising the bar for all. The way I see it: players may change, but India's capital market continues to deepen, diversify, and grow. The momentum is structural, and the opportunity enduring,' Thakkar's LinkedIn post concluded. Earlier this week, Founder and CEO of stock brokerage firm Zerodha, Nithin Kamath, lauded SEBI for 'going after' Jane Street, the US-based investment firm that has been alleged of index manipulation. 'You've got to hand it to SEBI for going after Jane Street. If the allegations are true, it's blatant market manipulation,' Kamath wrote on X. 'The shocking part? They kept at it even after receiving warnings from the exchanges. Maybe this is what happens when you're used to the lenient US regulatory regime. Think about the structure of U.S. markets: dark pools, payment for order flow, and other loopholes that allow hedge funds to make billions off retail investors. None of these practices would be allowed in India, thanks to our regulators,' Kamath added. On July 3, SEBI in its order noted that the US-based firm used a profit-maximising scheme to manipulate the market and booked substantial profits in index options, while incurring smaller losses in the cash and futures segments. SEBI further stated that Jane Street Group entities, despite caution letters from NSE in February 2025 and their own commitments to refrain from certain trading behaviours, continued to deploy the same high-risk and market-distorting strategies. SEBI sources later said that the interim order against the index manipulation matter concerning Jane Street, should not be considered a show cause notice. The investigations into the US-based investment firm will continue, the sources had added. 'It is difficult to estimate how long all this (probe) could take - the scope is quite large,' the sources had asserted. (ANI)
