"Melania Needs To Go": Thousands Sign Deportation Petition Amid Crackdown

Amid mounting backlash over US President Donald Trump's reported plans to deport naturalized citizens, a viral petition on MoveOn, a progressive advocacy platform, called for the deportation of First Lady Melania Trump, her parents, and son Barron Trump--arguing that Trump's own family should not be exempted from the policies he championed. The petition stated, "Since Trump wants to deport naturalized citizens, I believe it is only fair that Melania and her parents are on the first boat out. In addition, Melania's anchor baby, Baron, should be forced to leave as well because we know that his mother's mother was born in a different country. That is part of the criteria that Trump is putting into place. Your mother's mother has to have been born in the United States and we know Melania's mother was born elsewhere. If it's good for one, it's good for all! There should be no exceptions! On the first boat or flight out!" The petition further argued that the move would prevent perceptions of favoritism, adding, "If this is truly about national security, then Melania needs to go!" The remarks reflected growing public frustration over what many viewed as double standards in Trump's deportation agenda. According to Fox News, the petition surfaced just days after Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters, during an anti-DOGE protest in Los Angeles on March 25, suggested that Trump should investigate and potentially deport Melania Trump. "When he [Trump] talks about birthright, and he's going to undo the fact that the Constitution allows those who are born here, even if the parents are undocumented, they have a right to stay in America. If he wants to start looking so closely to find those who were born here and their parents were undocumented, maybe he ought to first look at Melania," Waters was seen saying from the stage, various videos posted on social media showed, Fox News reported. She added, "We don't know whether or not her parents were documented. And maybe we better just take a look." According to Fox News, her remarks were met with loud cheers from protestors at the rally, which focused on opposing Trump's federal government downsizing agenda. Fox News also reported that Melania Trump, born in the former Yugoslavia, became a US citizen in 2006. She was the first US first lady to become a naturalized citizen and the second to be born outside the United States, after Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams, wife of President John Quincy Adams. In 2018, The New York Times reported that Melania sponsored her parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, for green cards and later citizenship. Amalija Knavs passed away in 2024, while Viktor Knavs has been seen at recent public events with the Trump family. Waters' comments came in response to an executive order signed by Trump on his first day in office that aimed to reinterpret the 14th Amendment and restrict birthright citizenship. The order, currently under judicial review, seeks to exclude individuals born to undocumented immigrants or parents on temporary visas from automatic US citizenship. During the March 25 protest, Waters joined hundreds marching to the VA hospital on Los Angeles' Wilshire Boulevard. She declared, "We are here because we are not going to let Trump, we're not going to let Elon Musk, his co-president, or anybody else take the United States Constitution down." Her remarks on Melania Trump quickly spread on social media platforms like TikTok and X, drawing sharp criticism from conservatives. "Maxine Waters wants to deport Melania," posted the popular X account End Wokeness, as cited by Fox News.

19th century law fails: Wisconsin supreme court overturns 176-year old abortion ban; pro-choice advocates cheer

Wisconsin supreme court (AP) On Wednesday, the Wisconsin supreme court ruled to overturn the state's 176-year-old abortion ban, determining that a more recent law, criminalising abortions only when the fetus is viable outside the womb, takes precedence. In a closely split 4-3 ruling, the court, with its liberal majority, declared that the state's 1849 abortion ban is not unenforceable. The court rejected arguments claiming the law had been revived after the US supreme court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022. That federal decision eliminated nationwide abortion protections and sparked legal uncertainty over whether Wisconsin's near-total 19th-century ban had been reactivated. The court sided with Democratic attorney general Josh Kaul, who argued that although the 1849 law was never formally repealed, it has effectively been nullified by more recent state laws and regulations. This decision marks the conclusion of a three-year legal battle over abortion rights in Wisconsin and reaffirms that current laws, focused on fetal viability, take precedence. In 2022, soon after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion, Kaul filed a lawsuit against a Republican district attorney who claimed that Wisconsin's 1849 abortion ban had been reinstated and was legally enforceable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Although abortions had resumed in Wisconsin after a lower court struck down the 19th-century ban, the Supreme Court's ruling on Wednesday offers a greater sense of finality and legal clarity. The Wisconsin Supreme Court retained its liberal majority following an April election in which Susan Crawford, who openly supported abortion rights, won the seat. The race, widely viewed as an early referendum on former President Donald Trump, became the most expensive judicial election in U.S. history. The Wisconsin supreme court drew national attention earlier this year when billionaire Elon Musk, a former adviser to Donald Trump and now in conflict with the Republican president, funneled over $20 million through affiliated groups to support conservative candidate Brad Schimel in the high-stakes judicial race. Despite the massive spending, Schimel lost to Dane County Judge Susan Crawford, who secured the seat and preserved the court's liberal majority. The 1849 law banned abortion in nearly all cases, allowing it only when necessary to save the mother's life, with violators facing up to 15 years in prison. It became unenforceable in 1973 after the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision established a nationwide right to abortion.

Change is on the cards in 2027 UP assembly polls: Pallavi Patel

Apna Dal (Kameravadi) leader and Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel on Wednesday said that change is on the cards in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, pointing to what she described as growing dissatisfaction among Dalits, Muslims, and backward communities with the current government. The Sirathu MLA from Kaushambi district contested the 2022 assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket (File Photo) Speaking at Kamera Samman Diwas held in Ayodhya to mark the birth anniversary of her father and Apna Dal founder Dr Sone Lal Patel, Pallavi Patel said a caste-based census remains a long-standing demand of her late father and the party. She pledged to ensure the findings of such a census include meaningful participation from marginalised communities. 'Today we have gathered here to honour the legacy of Dr Sone Lal Patel, who always stood for the dignity of the Kamera community,' she said. 'Across the country, there are people who are trying to take away our voting rights, which have been granted to us by the Constitution. These elements are endangering our future.' 'In the 2027 assembly polls, there will be a change in the system and the current regime. Those who truly deserve to be in power will have the opportunity. This is the reality that today Dalits, backwards and Muslims are in a pitiable condition in the state and that is why a change in governance is required,' she claimed. The Sirathu MLA from Kaushambi district, who contested the 2022 assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket and defeated deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in one of the most high-profile contests of the polls, reiterated that the present condition of Dalits, backward classes, and Muslims in Uttar Pradesh calls for a change in leadership. Calling the Kamera community's assertion a 'revolution', Pallavi said the movement goes beyond caste and speaks to the rights of the common people. 'This revolution is about dignity, recognition, and rightful participation,' she told the gathering.
