Major College Football Program Lands Third Transfer Portal QB

Yahoo21-05-2025
The transfer portal continues to be an evolving aspect of college football, with many programs using it as an extremely valuable option when trying to put together a roster of talented players.
One team that's been especially active is the Ole Miss Rebels, led by a head coach who has received a total of 32 commitments this offseason for a group that ranks No. 2 in the SEC and No. 3 in the nation, per On3.

Despite much of the movement surrounding the portal starting to cool down, they made another addition on Wednesday in the form of quarterback Shawqi Itraish, who has been with the Rice Owls since 2022.
As Pete Nakos of On3 also reports, this marks the third quarterback that Ole Miss has added through the portal during the spring cycle, joining Maealiuaki Smith and Trinidad Chambliss.
During his time with Rice, Itraish's role has been extremely limited, appearing in just eight games and completing 24-of-45 passes for 216 yards, zero touchdowns, six interceptions and a 67 passing efficiency rating.

Coming out of high school in the 2022 recruiting class, he didn't receive much attention from top programs as On3 Industry Rankings placed him as a three-star recruit, the No. 105 quarterback and the No. 1,580 player in the nation.

However, based on his past performance and lack of experience, it's not expected that Itraish will be joining Ole Miss with the idea of seeing much playing time and will rather fill in as a backup.
That's especially true considering that former four-star recruit in the class of 2023, Austin Simmons, is expected to be the Rebels' starter to open the season.

Wisconsin football offers five-star recruit in the class of 2027

Wisconsin football is setting its sights high in the 2027 recruiting cycle, especially at the tight end position. After offering four-star TE Jaxon Dollar on Tuesday, the program also extended an offer to five-star TE Ahmad Hudson -- one of the nation's top players in the class. 247Sports specifically ranks Hudson as the No. 10 overall player in the 2027 cycle, the No. 1 tight end and the No. 1 player from his home state of Louisiana. Wisconsin is unsurprisingly not alone on the five-star recruit's offer sheet. As of July 23, other programs in pursuit of Hudson include Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas and USC. 247Sports currently lists Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, in-state LSU and Texas A&M as the early favorites in his recruitment, while On3/Rivals gives LSU (95.9%) a prohibitive early advantage over Nebraska (2%) and others. The 6-foot-6 tight end prospect is also a four-star power forward recruit on the basketball court. Only LSU, Grambling State and Louisiana Tech are listed on his basketball offer sheet. Wisconsin will have significant competition for Hudson's commitment. The program has not landed a five-star recruit since offensive tackle Nolan Rucci during the 2021 cycle. It only has five five-star signees in the online recruiting rankings era: 2001 DT Anttaj Hawthorne, 2003 DE Justin Ostrowski, 2007 OT Josh Oglesby, 2019 OT Logan Brown and Rucci. As noted in our story on Wisconsin's offer to Dollar, another blue-chip tight end in the class, the program is looking to rebuild its tight end room as it transitions back to a pro-style system on offense. Top talent at the position will be paramount to the scheme's success. That reality differs from Phil Longo's air raid scheme, which put more emphasis on speed and talent at wide receiver. 4-star Buford safety Nascar McCoy names his top 5 schools

Four-star safety recruit Nascar McCoy has narrowed down his options to just five schools ahead of his commitment. McCoy appears to be planning to announce his commitment on Friday, July 25 between 6 and 10 p.m. ET at a night club in Atlanta. McCoy's top five schools are the Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies and Miami Hurricanes. McCoy plays high school football for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford is one of the top high school football programs in the country. The Georgia Bulldogs already have a pair of commitments from Buford in three-star athlete Tyriq Green and three-star offensive lineman Graham Houston. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety is ranked as the No. 325 recruit in the country and the No. 40 player in Georgia, per the 247Sports Composite. McCoy, who is a member of the class of 2026 and is a rising senior, is the No. 26 safety in the nation. In McCoy's top schools announcement, he does not explicitly say his commitment date is July 25, but based on the context of his announcement (below) you can imply he'll make his commitment then. Georgia already has three safety commitments in the class of 2026 in Zech Fort, Jordan Smith and Kealan Jones. Athlete Tyriq Green also likely projects to be a safety, so it is a bit unlikely Georgia would be looking to add a fourth or fifth safety recruit to their 2026 signing class. Interestingly, the Auburn Tigers have hosted McCoy on visits more than any other program, but the Buford star did not include the Tigers in his top five. The four-star is projected to commit to Ole Miss, per Rivals. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads for more Georgia recruiting coverage!

Texas Earns Commitment From Top 10 College Football Recruit

Texas Earns Commitment From Top 10 College Football Recruit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns landed a recruit from ACC country on Friday via the 2026 recruiting class. On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that four-star cornerback Samari Matthews committed to the Longhorns over the South Carolina Gamecocks, Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes. Matthews is a native of Huntersville, North Carolina, and attends Williams Amos Hough High School. He is listed at 6-feet-tall, 180 pounds. He also held offers from the North Carolina Tar Heels, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Penn State Nittany Lions, and others. Matthews is the second corner from the 2026 class to pick the Longhorns, joining four-star prospect Hayward Howard Jr. Matthews is the No. 9 cornerback in the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2026 cycle. He is also the No. 6 prospect from the state of North Carolina. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine had South Carolina as the next closest team to land the corner, at 14.5%. Matthews joins a class highlighted by five-star quarterback Dia Bell, five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley and four-star inside offensive lineman John Turntine. While Texas added the commitment of Matthews, the Longhorns have missed on a couple of prospects from the class lately. Four-star athlete Jalen Lott chose the Oregon Ducks over Texas. The top athlete from the class, Lamar Brown, named Texas a finalist, but ultimately committed to the LSU Tigers. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is fresh off a consecutive College Football Playoff berth and took his team to the SEC Championship Game in year one in the conference. Texas faces the Ohio State Buckeyes to open the 2025 season on August story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 12, 2025, where it first appeared.
