Hellebuyck, who played for UMass Lowell from 2012-14, won the Vezina for a second year in a row and for the third time in his career. He backstopped the Jets to the Presidents' Trophy for the best regular season and the William Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed before losing in the second round of the playoffs to Dallas.

Price was the last to pull off the Hart-Vezina double in 2015. Hellebuyck is just the sixth goalie to do it, joining Price, Jose Theodore in 2002, Dominik Hasek in 1997 and '98 and Jacques Plante in '62.

Kucherov, the Art Ross Trophy winner for leading all scorers with 122 points this season, was also chosen for the Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player, as voted on by his peers. The Russian winger was MVP in 2019 when the Lightning finished atop the standings.

Draisaitl, the Rocket Richard Trophy recipient for scoring a league-high 52 goals, won the Hart in 2020 after the season was cut short by the pandemic. He became the first German player to be MVP.
Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar won the Lady Byng for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct for a third time, an award announced earlier Thursday.
A majority of the awards were already presented over the past few weeks, given out as surprises for the first time with no advanced notice. Colorado's Cale Makar got the Norris as the top defenseman, Florida's Aleksander Barkov the Selke as the best defensive forward and Washington's Spencer Carbery the Jack Adams as coach of the year.

Colts offensive playmaker named 2025 MVP candidate

All the attention this offseason in Indianapolis has been focused on the Colts' quarterback situation. As a result, one of Indy's most reliable and consistent playmakers has flown under the radar despite having MVP potential. Given how much Indy is likely to lean on him, Eric Edholm selected running back Jonathan Taylor as the Colts' best MVP candidate in 2025. With Taylor having been Edholm's choice in 2024 as well, he's even more confident in the two-time Pro Bowler to be the guy again. 'Taylor was the Colts' best performer in 2024 -- despite the fact that he missed three weeks early in the season and ultimately posted modest receiving totals,' he writes. 'I feel even stronger about the pick this time around, with the Colts' run game being absolutely critical to achieving the level of team success that would produce an MVP candidate in the first place.' Taylor taking home the ultimate individual prize the NFL offers would be a long shot in today's pass-first era of football. In fact, no running back has won the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012, over a decade ago. The Colts adding Khalil Herbert in free agency and drafting DJ Giddens in the 5th round in April also suggest a lesser work load for Taylor. Still, the former Wisconsin Badger is the Colts most likely choice. The 26-year-old has already led the league in rushing yards once in 2021 (1,811) and posted 1,431 yards in 2024, his best total since that league-leading campaign.

LeBron James on if NBA should give an Offensive Player of the Year award

In the NFL, a number of individual awards are given out each season that the NBA doesn't have. That includes the Offensive Player of the Year award, which is distinct from the MVP award. Historically, at least in the modern era, the NFL MVP has usually been awarded to quarterbacks. But the Offensive Player of the Year award often goes to a wide receiver or running back, and it makes a nice addition to one's resume. Some have wondered if the NBA should add an Offensive Player of the Year award to its list of annual individual honors. During a recent episode of the "Mind the Game" podcast, LeBron James wondered out loud about what the criteria for an Offensive Player of the Year award would be in the NBA. 'I did think about how the NFL does Offensive Player of the Year and MVP. I thought that could possibly be something in our league, where you give an Offensive Player of the Year and an MVP… It changes. It's like, OK, so is it the best player? Is it the player who had the best season with their team? Maybe that's Offensive Player of the Year. Or is it just simply the best player in the league, statistically this was the best player in the league. Obviously you're not going to have someone in there whose team didn't come close to making the playoffs … it's not the most valuable, then.' This past season, Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the regular season MVP award, and he also earned NBA Finals MVP honors when his team won the world championship. But although he led the league in scoring, an Offensive Player of the Year award would've likely gone to Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets, who became just the third player in league history to average a triple-double. If the NBA had an Offensive Player of the Year award, as the NFL has had for decades, there is no doubt James would've won at least a couple of them.

Young Thunder Champ Sheds Light on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Leadership Style

Oklahoma City Thunder All-NBA First Team point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a banner year in 2024-25, earning his first MVP award while leading his team to a 68-14 record and its first post-Seattle SuperSonics championship. In a fresh conversation with Sportskeeda's Mark Medina, young shooting guard Ajay Mitchell spoke about learning from Gilgeous-Alexander and some of Oklahoma City's other great vets during his eventful 2024-25 season, which ended in a title. Mitchell was occasionally trotted out in spot playoff minutes during the postseason, although the former No. 38 pick in the 2024 draft wasn't a night-in, night-out contender. Mitchell reflected on Gilgeous-Alexander's preferred leadership style. "I think the way he leads [is] by the way he acts. Seeing him in the gym after practice and before practice, and the way he takes care of his body," Mitchell said. "It's just the way he's consistent throughout everything. For young players like us, it's really important to have leaders like that and see how they go about the game. It really helped me just learn from him, not only just asking questions. But looking at what he does and looking at the way he acts really helps." Mitchell, who has plenty of defensive upside, spoke glowingly about what he's been able to glean from All-Defensive Team Thunder wings Jalen Williams, Luguentz Dort, and Alex Caruso. "They're great defenders. They're the best defenders in the league," Mitchell raved. "Seeing how they go about the game, for me it was the way they watched film. I think it was kind of different than in college. There, we just watch film. But they were really pointing on the guys they were going to guard. It's the way the game is so slow for them on defense, the way they can make reads and be playmakers on defense, I think that's a big part of it. It's not just about guarding your guys, but being able to make defensive plays. They can read players and get steals. The way they go about defense is amazing. There is a lot to learn from."
