Dasara festival 2025 to be celebrated over a period of 11 days

The Hindu21-06-2025
This year's Dasara festival is scheduled to be celebrated over a period of eleven days.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysore royal family, in a statement here on Saturday, sought to make it clear that this year's eleven-day Dasara celebration was not unprecedented, but in keeping with traditional observances based on the lunar calendar.
Though the festival is typically observed over a period of nine days, there have been several instances in the past when the celebrations have lasted either Ashtaratri (eight nights) nine days, Navaratri (nine nights) ten days, or Dasharatri (ten nights)eleven days'.
'The calendar (Panchanga) followed by the Mysuru palace for all festivals, including Dasara, is based on the lunar calendar. Variations in the duration of the festival arise due to astronomical factors – specifically the movement of the moon and the Sun – which determine the alignment of the lunar days/dates,' the statement said.
Dasara had been celebrated over eleven days in 1920, 1929, 1953, 1962, 1980, 1990, 1998, 2000, 2015 and 2016, said Ms. Wadiyar.

‘Vishwambhara' release update: Chiranjeevi's socio-fantasy now expected to arrive during THIS period

Picture Credit: X Megastar Chiranjeevi's much-anticipated grand socio-fantasy film Vishwambhara has hit yet another hurdle. Initially announced during Sankranti 2024 and locked for a grand release on January 10, 2025, the film has seen prolonged delays. According to a report by 123Telugu, the makers are now eyeing a new release window in the summer of 2026, owing to extensive delays in post-production and CG work. The primary reason behind the delay appears to be the film's VFX-heavy narrative. As per the report, the CGI team initially promised to deliver the output in three months. However, Chiranjeevi's team, aiming for better quality, granted them six months instead. Despite the extension, post-production has not progressed at the expected pace. Earlier, while speaking with Telugu One about the setback, Chiranjeevi's long-time collaborator and producer Naga Babu Satyanarayana revealed, 'The team miscalculated how long it would take to shoot and later complete the CGI. The timeline offered by the VFX team wasn't realistic. They didn't want to lose the project, so they under-promised on the duration it would take.' He also addressed the teaser that was released last year to a mixed response. It was created using AI-generated visuals. He revealed that the sequences were rendered at the last minute since the CGI wasn't ready in time. 'It's not proper CGI, and none of those visuals will be in the final film,' he stated. Initially, 'Vishwambhara' was scheduled to hit cinemas during Sankranti 2025. However, the makers backed out once it became clear that Ram Charan's Game Changer was targeting the same festive slot. 'Vishwambhara' also stars Trisha Krishnan as the female lead. With the film taking longer than expected, it is being suggested that Chiranjeevi's next project with director Anil Ravipudi will hit theatres first. That film is expected to be a mass commercial entertainer, with Nayanthara as the co-lead. On another front, Chiranjeevi has also signed a film with Dasara director Srikanth Odela, which will be an action thriller.

Nani–Srikanth Odela's The Paradise Kicks Off 40-Day Hyderabad Shoot

Last Updated: Telugu star Nani joins the sets of The Paradise, directed by Srikanth Odela. The film, produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri, releases on March 26, 2026. Telugu star Nani has officially joined the sets of his upcoming film The Paradise, directed by Dasara fame Srikanth Odela. The shoot began on June 21, 2025, and after a week of filming childhood portions, Nani stepped in on Saturday to kick off a key 40-day schedule in Hyderabad. To mark the moment, the makers dropped a striking photo of Nani as his character, Dhagad, on the film's official social media handles. In the image, Nani stands with his foot resting on stacked weight plates, exuding style and grit in green leather shoes, a sleek anklet-watch, and a grounded stance that hints at his character's attitude. Captioning the image, the makers wrote, 'Dhagad joins the #TheParadise. In cinemas 26-03-2026 (sic)." Take a look: This marks Nani's second outing with director Srikanth Odela, following their successful collaboration on Dasara, which was both a critical and commercial hit. Expectations are high for The Paradise. While the full cast and crew are still under wraps, the film is being bankrolled by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the SLV Cinemas banner. Music is being scored by Anirudh Ravichander. The first glimpse of the film had released in March this year. The promo titled 'Raw Statement' started with a grim atmosphere. It opened with a disclaimer – raw truth, raw language, setting the tone for what's to come. A powerful voiceover took the audience inside the core story: 'In history, everyone has written about parrots and pigeons, but no one has ever written about crows, born of the same species. This is the story of those crows whose stomachs burned with hunger." The voice background in the background further says, 'The cries of the corpses that have been walking for ages… A tale of a community raised on blood, not milk, from their mother's breast… A spark ignited that filled the entire community with enthusiasm. Crows who had once been belittled now held swords in their hands. This is the story of a rebellious young man who united those crows… The story of that young man becoming a leader." Crows, here, symbolising an anguished community of people. The Paradise is set for a grand release on March 26, 2026, and will hit theatres in eight languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, English, and Spanish.
