Ultimate Kho Kho appoints Dhiraj Parasher as CEO to lead global expansion ahead of Season 3 kickoff on November 29

India Gazette05-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK), India's first professional Kho Kho league, today announced the appointment of Dhiraj Parasher as its new Chief Executive Officer, a pivotal leadership move as the league prepares to welcome international players for the first time in its most ambitious edition yet, with Season 3 kicking off on November 29, according to a release from UKK.
With talent from around the globe set to participate for the first time, Parasher's appointment comes at a strategic inflection point. UKK is looking to scale operations, attract global audiences, and deepen fan engagement, building on its reputation as one of the fastest-growing non-cricket sports properties in the country.
Parasher brings over two decades of experience across sports, entertainment, consulting, and brand development. Known for his strategic acumen and innovative approach, he has held leadership roles at the Adani Group and Ernst & Young, and was instrumental in developing sports infrastructure and organising major events, including the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Furthermore, Parasher has worked closely with federations, state governments, and franchise-led models to build long-term sporting ecosystems, including a significant contribution to grassroots sport development with the Government of Jharkhand during his stint with E&Y.
Amit Burman, Promoter, Ultimate Kho Kho, welcomed the appointment, 'Dhiraj's leadership aligns perfectly with our vision to take UKK to the next level. His strategic mindset and deep-rooted knowledge of grassroots sport will help us scale UKK's reach, especially among digitally savvy fans, while staying true to the cultural core of Kho Kho,' as quoted from a release by UKK.
Building on this momentum, Parasher will lead UKK's next phase of growth, driving strategic expansion, operational excellence, and stakeholder alliances with a mandate to establish the league as a globally scalable yet culturally rooted sports property.
'Ultimate Kho Kho is the culmination of India's ambition to take a traditional sport to the global stage,' said Dhiraj Parasher, CEO, Ultimate Kho Kho.
'As India prepares to include indigenous games in global platforms like the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, my focus is on building UKK into a league of global relevance -- one powered by international participation, cutting-edge broadcasting, and next-gen community engagement. Season 3 is a strategic launchpad -- a step towards making Kho Kho a scalable and exportable sport for the world,' he added.
A Delhi University alumnus, Parasher is also known for championing sport-for-change initiatives and building inclusive, purpose-driven sporting platforms. His appointment is expected to further UKK's ambitions of being not just a professional league, but a national movement that inspires pride and participation in India's sporting heritage. (ANI)

In first meet post injury, long-jumper Sreeshankar sails to 8.05m

Sreeshankar's father S Murali, also his coach, was a relieved man. He was there beside him on Saturday. His team was expecting around 7.9m but eight was beyond expectation. 'It was such a good sight,' he told this daily, his words laden with emotions. 'We were expecting somewhere around 7.9m. He didn't have competition behind him, only practice. It's not easy. But to see him jump 8.05m is more than satisfactory.' The coach said the road to recovery was not easy but helped by experts at the IIS and NCOE. Murali said that they shifted from Palakkad to Trivandrum because they could use the scientific facilities at the centre. Priyam Singh, a physio with JSW, has been by Sreeshankar's side when he was injured and now when he is back. 'Priyam was a great help and Sree's rehabilitation process was over around the end of the year in 2024 at IIS and by January we shifted to NCOE so that he can practice and recover,' he said. He said that Sreeshankar has been training well and clearing 8m but needs to get a bit more consistent. 'With Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games next year, our target would be those two mega events first but our ultimate goal would be the LA28.' The world championships in Tokyo could be touch and go as they don't have much time to qualify. But they will try. For the record, entry standard is 8.27m and Sreeshankar has 8.41 as his personal best. This has been a terrible year for horizontal jumpers. National record holder Jeswin Aldrin (8.42m) has not crossed 8m and in fact his personal best this season is 7.83m. Solomon David is the season leader with a jump of 7.94m. For now, Sreeshankar is back as the leader of the India pack.

Madrid Archery World Cup: Jyothi Surekha Vennam finishes 2nd in individual event, wins three medals overall

A week that started with Jyothi Surekha Vennam setting a new World Record in mixed team along with Rishabh Yadav, finished with her standing on the podium in all three possible events she could medal in at the fourth stage of the 2025 Archery World Cup being held in Madrid. Earlier in the day, the supremely consistent women's compound team won silver. Then Jyothi shot to silver in the women's compound individual event, losing a super close final against Great Britain's Ella Gibson 148-147. The trio of Jyothi, Parneet Kaur and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep, who had topped the qualification round with a total of 2116 points, looked well on course for gold and justify their top-billing when they led 170-169 after the third end. However, they eventually went down 225-227 to Chinese Taipei, a 7 by Parneet in the fourth end proving very costly in the final equation. In the mixed team event, Rishabh and Jyothi – who lost to eventual champions Netherlands in the semifinals – beat 10th-seeded El Salvador duo of Paola Corado and Douglas Vladimir Nolasco 156-153 to claim bronze. On Friday, they to 12th-seeded Netherlands 152-155. In the bronze playoff, the scores were tied 39-39 after the first end, but Jyothi and Rishabh pulled ahead by two points after the second and maintained their lead till the end to seal victory. In the qualification round, Jyothi and Rishabh's combined score of 1431 was the 144-arrow mixed team world record. Rishabh topped the men's qualification charts with 716 while Jyothi did the same in the women's section with a score of 715. Rishabh, according to World Archery, led the men's compound qualification round from start to finish at Vallehermoso Stadium and could have challenged the individual record too, currently held by Braden Gellenthien (718) but finished on 716, which is a new personal best and his highest score on the international circuit. Jyothi and Rishabh's combined 1431 beat the previous mixed team world record of 1429, held by Denmark's Tanja Gellenthien and Mathias Fullerton since the Krakow-Malopolska 2023 European Games. It is another encouraging early sign for India for LA 2028, with compound mixed team event added to the Olympic Games roster. 'It's special because the [compound] mixed team is newly added to the Olympics, and we've been having such small achievements over time,' Rishabh, who also won mixed team gold with Jyothi at the season opener in Central Florida, had told World Archery. 'We didn't shoot mixed team together at the last two stages, but now we're back – and we both shot well. It's interesting and we're happy with the consistency we have together.' (With PTI inputs)
