Iowa women's basketball hosting transfer portal visitor from UCLA
Iowa women's basketball is hosting former UCLA guard Elina Aarnisalo for a weekend visit.
Edwin Arocho of Prep Girls Hoops reported that Aarnisalo had made her way to Iowa City to take in what head coach Jan Jensen and the Hawkeyes have to offer her and how she could fit into Iowa's future plans.
A 5-foot-10 guard, Aarnisalo just completed her freshman season with the Bruins where she played in 37 games and started 10. Aarnisalo averaged 5.1 points, 3.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 43.7% from the field and 27.0% from 3-point range.
During her 10 starts, Aarnisalo's averages were up to 8.6 points, 5.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. Aarnisalo's shooting efficiency also ticked upwards during her starts. The Finland guard shot 54.7% from the field and 42.8% from 3-point range in games she started during her frosh campaign.
As Iowa looks to restock a backcourt that sees Lucy Olsen and Sydney Affolter depart, Aarnisalo could step right in as a starting point guard for the Hawkeyes. That would allow five-star and incoming McDonald's All-American Addie Deal to slide to the off-ball position for Iowa and morph into more of a scorer.
Plus, the Hawkeyes also inked four-star guard Journey Houston and Iowa returns a nucleus of guards that features Taylor McCabe, Kylie Feuerbach, Teagan Mallegni and Taylor Stremlow.
Here's a look at some of Aarnisalo's highlights:

Lady Vols basketball schedule 2025-26: Non-conference games in Kim Caldwell's second season
Lady Vols basketball announced its nonconference schedule for the 2025-26 season on Aug. 1, which only includes five home games. Tennessee will play five nonconference games on the road and two at neutral sites. Including SEC play, the Lady Vols will 14 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament. That also includes every team from the Final Four – Tennessee will play UCLA, UConn and South Carolina on the road and host Texas. "Including our conference opponents, our schedule includes the top six teams and 10 of the top 20-ranked programs in the early preseason polls," Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said in a school release. "We have our work cut out for us, but I believe our challenging non-conference opponents will better prepare us for what we're going to see in the Southeastern Conference. "We're a little out of balance in terms of home and away ranked opponents, and that's something that takes some time to even out. We'll continue to work on it going forward, but I think this year it will allow us to really test our players and get them ready for conference play." The nonconference slate took a step up in strength of schedule from Caldwell's first season. Tennessee only faced three power conference opponents during the 2024-25 nonconference schedule, and it will face five during the 2025-26 season. UT also only played one true nonconference road game last season. The Lady Vols will open the season Nov. 4 against NC State in Greensboro, North Carolina. They will also make their return to the Women's Champions Classic in Brooklyn, New York, on Dec. 20 where they'll face Louisville. UT's fifth power conference opponent in nonconference play is at Stanford on Dec. 3 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. Tennessee has 10 matchups with teams in ESPN's Top 25 including SEC play. South Carolina is the highest-ranked team in ESPN's projected rankings at No. 1 and UConn is the highest-ranked nonconference opponent at No. 2. The nonconference slate includes four matchups with in-state opponents. The Lady Vols will face MTSU and UT Martin on the road and Belmont and ETSU at home. Tennessee will travel to Belmont next season and host MTSU in the final game of a four-game series. LADY VOLS: Tennessee women's basketball's 2025-26 roster is set. Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey makes a bold proclamation following Friday's practice
Kenny Minchey after today's practice: "I'm capable. I believe I'm the best quarterback in the country."Minchey showed off the wheels a bit today with Gino Guidugli as the read defender. You love to see when your quarterback has extreme confidence, and Notre Dame's Kenny Minchey did exactly that on Friday following the second fall practice. When speaking with the media, the second-year player proclaimed that he believes that he's 'the best quarterback in the country,' as On3's Jack Soble posted on social media. It's a strong claim, but one that ultimately could come true. Minchey will have to beat out CJ Carr first, but having that kind of confidence will go a long way. Everything that we have seen from his during his limited playing time and in practices seem to suggest that he's got the skill set to lead the Notre Dame offense. He's got the running ability to make defenses account for his legs, and the throwing ability to pop the top off of a defense. It will be a very interesting battle between the two, as the competition continues this fall leading up to the season opener on the road against Miami. Head coach Marcus Freeman will have a very difficult decision to make, but Minchey is very confident in his abilities.
