PM Modi targets RJD, Congress at rally in Bihar, credits NDA for progress
Press Trust of India Siwan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) at a public rally in Siwan, accusing them of pushing Bihar into poverty and lawlessness during their rule.
Addressing the public meeting, the PM said the people of Bihar have ended the jungle raj created by the Congress-RJD combine.
Modi also slammed the RJD for allegedly insulting Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and said the people of the state would not tolerate the insult to the Dalit icon.
The RJD and the Congress are responsible for the large-scale migration of labourers from Bihar and for the persistent poverty that plagued the state for decades, Modi alleged.
He claimed that the RJD-Congress governance model was focused on "enriching their own families while ignoring the needs of the people".
During the Congress's licence raj, their leaders became rich, but the public remained poor, he added.
The RJD insulted Babasaheb and the people of Bihar will never forgive its leaders. Leaders of RJD and Congress keep photographs of the architect of the Country's Constitution near their feet. I keep his photograph close to my heart," the PM claimed.
Taking a dig at RJD's political approach, Modi said, We believe in Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', but they believe only in Parivaar Ka Vikas'.
Modi warned that the RJD and the Congress, which according to him were responsible for Bihar's troubled past, are again eyeing power.
They created the jungle raj, and now they want to return. But the people of Bihar will give them a fitting reply in the assembly elections, he said.
The Bihar assembly elections are due in a few months.
Highlighting the achievements of the NDA government, Modi claimed that Bihar has witnessed significant infrastructure development in recent years.
Under the NDA, 55,000 km of rural roads were constructed, over 1.5 crore households were electrified, and piped water reached 26 crore people, he said. Modi said that the entire world was acknowledging India's development journey.
During my recent foreign visit, several world leaders praised India's progress, he noted.

'$9bn gone': PBS, NPR defunded! Trump's public broadcasting budget axe gets Congress' green light
Congress approved a White House request to claw back $9 billion for foreign aid and public broadcasting, after Republicans bowed to President Donald Trump in an unusual surrender of congressional spending power. The House's 216-213 vote early Friday sent the package to Trump for his signature. Two Republicans, Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Michael Turner of Ohio opposed the measure. The Senate approved the package in a predawn 51-48 vote the day before, overcoming the objections of two Republicans, Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who argued that their party was ceding Congress' constitutional control over federal funding. The bulk of the funds targeted -- about $8 billion -- was for foreign assistance programs. The remaining $1.1 billion was for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which finances NPR and PBS. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta questions locus of X Corp to approach Karnataka High Court under right to freedom of speech
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta Friday questioned the locus standi of X Corp to approach the Karnataka High Court under the aegis of the right to freedom of speech. He also raised the issue of internet anonymity by raising the example of a fake X account named 'Supreme Court of Karnataka'. X has been arguing in the high court that takedown orders should be issued under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, and not Section 79 (3) (b) of the same Act. Section 69A lays out the grounds and power for a direction to be issued for any agency or intermediary to block certain content, while Section 79(3)(b) provides for removal of the usual protection granted to intermediaries such as X if unlawful material is not removed. X Corp has also raised concerns regarding the Sahyog Portal for intermediaries, referring to it in an earlier hearing as a 'censorship portal'. Solicitor General Mehta also questioned the citing of the 'chilling effect' on freedom of speech, and claimed X Corp could not take advantage of it, as it was only a right for users. While concluding his submissions, he stated, 'X has no locus standi to file the present writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, at least claiming Article 19(1)a rights (freedom of speech), or Article 14 rights (right to equality)… the petitioner is an out and out foreign commercial entity. The petitioner has a mere status of intermediary and no more. It is neither a citizen of India nor a natural person… It is for the individual citizens of the country to ventilate their fundamental rights.' He had earlier stated on the topic of anonymity in the online medium, 'We have opened one account in the name of the 'Supreme Court of Karnataka', and Twitter has opened that account… I can post anything in that, and lakhs of people will say that the Supreme Court of Karnataka has said it. I can remain anonymous or pseudonymous…' Senior Advocate K G Raghavan, who represents X, had raised objections to this, pointing out that it had not been put on the record. He stated, 'I am not on who created it, etc… I am only saying, if it is to be relied upon as part of a counsel's submission…' The judge said it had been taken only in the nature of an illustration, adding, 'You can rest assured that this illustration will not prejudice.' Raghavan later stated that the account in question had been taken down. Solicitor General Mehta also made submissions on the topic of the Sahyog Portal. On the question of whether even a metro engineer could be an authorised person to issue notices under the Sahyog Portal, he said, 'He is a designated authority… it is not necessary that police persons are only the designated authority. If this type of situation arises… some authority will have to be designated in each department. What used to happen was anybody used to write a letter. Some police stations in Kolkata etc, would send a letter to Facebook… intermediaries came to us – if you have a portal, intermediaries will know that somebody has authorised this. And the Government will also know about the compliance. It is merely an administrative mechanism. Twitter has chosen not to join… rest of them (intermediaries) have joined the portal.' Replies in the matter by Senior Advocate K G Raghavan are set to continue on July 25.

'Manipulation of facts': TMC hits back at PM Modi's remark on Bengalis at Durgapur rally
Earlier, in a bid to counter the Trinamool Congress' allegation of 'harassment' and 'torture' of Bengali speaking people from West Bengal in different BJP-ruled states, Modi said, 'For BJP, Bengali identity is above all. But what is happening here? Trinamool is threatening West Bengal's own culture for its own sake. It is bringing in infiltrators, making fake identity cards. It has created an ecosystem, as a result, the country is being harmed, Bengal is being harmed. They have crossed all limits to appease' Trinamool Congress leader and party's spokesperson Kunal Ghosh termed Modi's speech as 'distortion of truth, application of lies, manipulation of facts, attempts to mislead people'. In a post on X, he wrote: 'Unemployment is rising under the central government's tenure, corruption, violence against women, and misgovernance in BJP-ruled states. Despite the central government's discrimination, Bengal is progressing under Mamata Banerjee's leadership; this is clear from the central government's report and NITI Aayog's report.' Ghosh claimed that the BJP won't even reach 40 seats in 2026.
