Diljit Dosanjh 'Cried' Seeing His Met Gala 2025 Look: ‘I Knew No One Else Will Be Visible'
Diljit Dosanjh opens up about his Met Gala 2025 look, saying he cried envisioning Punjab's flag and Gurmukhi script on his back.
Diljit Dosanjh, who's currently facing backlash for working with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, has opened up about the emotional significance of his Met Gala 2025 look. The Punjabi actor-singer, in an interview with BBC Asian Network, revealed that his appearance at fashion's biggest night was all about showcasing Punjabi pride on the global stage.
Confident about his look, Diljit said, 'I knew it, when I go there, no one will have eyes on anyone else. Even if they show me less, when I go, no one else will be visible. I always had this belief that when I go, I'll look like a king." He also revealed how he had requested Cartier to give him a particular necklace. 'When I went to the Cartier showroom, I asked them, 'Will you give me that necklace. It belonged to us, and you just took it.' They had promised me then, but it was stuck in an exhibition, so it couldn't be sent," he added.
For Diljit, it wasn't just about making a style statement. 'I cried when I thought of my look, that I would wear an outfit with the Punjab flag on my back and Gurmukhi script written on it. That was a very big thought for me. It wasn't important that I go there; it was important that Punjab goes there, that the turban goes there. That thought alone made me cry."

Diljit also recounted an incident involving Shakira at the Met Gala. He explained how her elaborate dress helped him get through security with his kirpan, which was concealed under his cape. 'Shakira was ahead of me, and her dress had a lot of metal pins and such… I had the Kirpan under my cape… They checked Shakira but didn't check me."
Despite the ongoing Sardaar Ji 3 controversy, Diljit's Met Gala appearance has been widely praised as a bold and heartfelt tribute to his roots. The film, meanwhile, is scheduled for an overseas release only, given the current political climate between India and Pakistan.

Suits & Sayings: Family Business
Suits & Sayings Now that the rift in this Delhi-based business family is public—something this column had alluded to last week—friends of the Punjabi household can't stop wondering if there is some larger shadow boxing at play, sparked by the recent bereavement . Sections of the extended family have, in the past, supposedly attempted to take over the business during moments of vulnerability, but were unsuccessful, as per Lutyens lore. Efforts to use proxies within the family to litigate over the use of the brand name have also failed. Would this be a third attempt? The clue may well be in the decision to proceed with their annual summer bash , so soon after the recent tragedy. Clearly there's not much love lost between uncles and nephews and siblings .

‘AR Rahman will get a song out of you at 3 am,' says Sukhwinder Singh: ‘He shines like the moon'
As a composer, AR Rahman is one of the most important figures of the Indian music industry, and singer Sukhwinder Singh, who has sung several of Rahman's songs, is right up there with him. In a recent interview, Sukhwinder talked about his relationship with Rahman and commented on the several idiosyncrasies the composer is famous for, like making music in the middle of the night. During an episode of Mashable India's Bombay Journey, Sukhwinder shared his opinion on the Roja composer and revealed that the introverted genius is actually quite a hoot with the right company, and according to Sukhwinder, he is the right company. He said, 'I was the one who started making Rahman laugh. He is an introverted person, and he gets joy from his work, but laughing in general is also important. Punjabi jokes are only funny in Punjabi, and trying to translate that to English for him was very difficult. There are some slang words that you can't convert, so I developed a special language for him.' ALSO READ: AR Rahman sang 'Vande Matram' at 2 am, filmmaker recalls wanting to keep it 'romantic': 'I was in tears…vohi recording aaj gaane mein hai' Sukhwinder Singh further shared that he even has a special name for AR Rahman and appreciated Rahman's ability to inspire the singers he is working with. 'When someone gives you a break in films or music, we call him the Godfather. I call Rahman my 'godfriend.' With the kind of lifestyle I had, I used to party at night and then work in the morning. With him, you have to be on the mic at 3 in the night, and somehow he will pull that song from you. Suddenly you feel as energetic as him while recording the song. Right in the middle of the night, he shines like the moon,' said Sukhwinder. Rahman, who is believed to be a very simple man, is often seen rocking many out-of-the-box outfits, including bedazzled suits during live performances. Sukhwinder commented on the same and said, 'He is very fond of clothes, and that too ones with all the strange colours. He will wear them for shows, and the reason why people don't see him like that in general is because by the time he gets ready, it is 12 am in the night and everyone is sleeping.' The duo have collaborated on several iconic songs that have transcended their films and eras, including 'Chaiyya Chaiyya,' 'Ramta Jogi,' 'Ghanan Ghanan,' and of course, 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire, which earned AR Rahman Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

In conversation with NDTV on the film's anniversary, Shabana Azmi spoke about her bonding with another veteran actress in the team - Jaya Bachchan. She played the role of the antagonist in the film, Dhanlakshmi Randhawa. What's Happening Thanks to social media and a deluge of pap videos, Jaya Bachchan is infamous for her interactions with photographers and, mostly, her disapproval of them popping up everywhere. And I said, wow, there's some place where we can learn acting of that kind. And that's where I want to go." Shabana Azmi highlights the iconic moments when Kanwal (Dharmendra) and her onscreen character Jamini share the most-talked-about kiss, and Jaya Bachchan faints in the most dramatic manner. She says, "We were laughing even on the set. She is extremely funny."
