Bastille frontman Dan Smith reveals truth about band's rumoured secret Glastonbury 2025 set

BASTILLE have performed at Glastonbury every three years since 2013 – which means the Pompeii singers were likely for a return this weekend.
But after appearing in 2016, 2019 and 2022, I'm afraid I am going to dash the hopes of fans who have been speculating Dan Smith and his bandmates will be playing a secret set.

In an exclusive chat, Dan, who will instead tour arenas with the band in November, said: 'We are not doing any festivals this year.
'I love Glastonbury and I will be there jumping around in every field I can physically get myself to.
'But as a kind of lifelong Glastonbury fan, as much as I love playing there, there's something slightly more exciting about just getting to go as a fan and enjoy it.'
It's not all play for Dan though, as the movie-loving singer is on the line-up tomorrow night at the Pilton Palais Cinema, where he will introduce a screening of Wild At Heart.

And Dan won't hear any criticism of the festival line-up.
He said: 'There's so much variety there.
'I think there's a tendency to get hung up on where people are on the bill.'

KT throws hall-night party
KT TUNSTALL added some spice to her 50th birthday celebrations by inviting Mel C to join her on stage at the Royal Albert Hall.
But it wasn't just Sporty who came out for a turn on the mic, with Roger Daltrey, Rick Astley and Natalie Imbruglia performing with KT – while Jools Holland played piano.

Backstage, the birthday girl was full of excitement and joked, 'It was this or a six-pack in the kitchen,' as I wished her good luck before she went on stage.
Fans were treated to a full run- through of her debut album, Eye To The Telescope, which turns 20 this year.
But they got extra bang for their buck when KT performed the title track of the album, which she never released.
'I abandoned it,' KT explained, as she revealed that she recorded the song inside the laboratory where her late dad used to work as a physicist.

'I wrote a verse and the chorus . . . 20 years to write a song, bloody hell.'
The track, which will appear on the re-issue on the album when it comes out in October, is lyrically beautiful and tinged with emotion.
For me, the highlight of the night was KT and Sporty's mash-up of the Spice Girls' 1997 hit Stop with (I've Had) The Time Of My Life from Dirty Dancing, which raised the roof of the hall.
Happy birthday, KT.

Lauren's busted as a fan
REMEMBER MONDAY's Lauren Byrne had a mega fan-girl moment backstage at the Isle of Wight Festival after bumping into Busted.
The singer said in an exclusive chat: 'I was a Busted girl when I was younger and I showed James Bourne a photo of me holding a banner I made for a concert when I was younger. I'd drawn all their faces on and everything. He was like, 'Er… it's so nice to meet you'.'

Bandmate Charlotte Steele added: 'And McFly have aged like a fine wine.

'They were looking very good. I was a Dougie Poynter fan so when we met them . . . I just couldn't speak to him.'
Elsewhere, I caught up with Olly Murs, who chose to break his strict tour rule of eating clean – by tucking into a massive beef Sunday roast.
Lost in translation
RESEARCH from GetYourGuide has revealed one in three fans can't understand Liam Gallagher's thick Manc accent.
It has brought out a 'Manctionary' in time for Oasis' reunion shows.
This will help fans with slang including 'scran's angin', for when they've forked out £12 on a crap burger, and 'bobbins', which translates into 'rubbish'.
Brooklyn bites back in Nic pic
MORE shots have been fired in the never-ending saga that has become Brooklyn Beckham's strained relationship with his family.
According to insiders close to Posh and Becks, the aspiring chef is now being described as 'the hostage' by those who know him – as his wife Nicola Peltz stands accused of distancing Brooklyn from his family.

But Brooklyn has made his feelings clear on how he feels about the nickname, by posting a loved-up snap of actress Nicola on Instagram with the caption: 'It's been five years since I asked this beautiful woman to marry me. Best decision ever.'
The rest of the Beckham clan clearly don't agree.
Given brother Cruz is now giving James Blunt a run for his money in the sarcastic online comments department, I look forward to what response he comes up with.

Simz turns up meltdown heat
LITTLE SIMZ is the epitome of cool. But even the most chilled artist in the music industry couldn't take the heat out of London's Southbank on Sunday night.
In fact, she encouraged it and sent temperatures soaring as she closed the Meltdown Festival – which she curated – backed by the 42-strong Chineke! Orchestra.

Launching into Introvert, from her Mercury Prize-winning album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, was a hit with the crowd.

Talking about her own struggle with mental health, which the record focuses on, Simz added: 'I encourage anyone who is going through anything right now to stay up, stay strong.'
The Chineke! Orchestra, led by Chris Cameron, provided beautiful, deep soundscapes with Simz taking the chance to conduct during Venom.
The tune of the night came with a mash-up of Lion and Point And Kill, featuring Obongjayar, who strutted on to the stage in fabulous diamond-encrusted sunglasses. Exquisite.
Cashh and Wretch 32 joined her for the more pensive Blood, and she treated her fans to new track Lonely, saying: 'It was very much me losing my self-confidence and feeling like I didn't know how to find that again.'

Preserved gladiator helmets on display at Leeds armouries

Three gladiator helmets "perfectly preserved" following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago are to go on display in Leeds as part of an international touring exhibition. Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum has been brought to the Royal Armouries in collaboration with the Colosseum in Rome and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The exhibition also features gladiatorial weaponry and armour from a training camp in Pompeii, effectively frozen in time as a result of the eruption in Armouries director general and master of the armouries Nat Edwards said the collection gave a "real sense of the spectacle of gladiatorial combat". He said: "Some of the objects in this collection you really can't see anywhere else in the world."We have three perfectly preserved gladiators' helmets. They're incredibly rare, they're beautifully decorated, all of the parts still work. "They've got decorations showing winged Victories and barbarian captives, and they look as good as new. They could have just been taken off yesterday, they're quite amazing." The exhibition runs from 28 June to 2 November in Leeds, and has already attracted more than one million visitors while on display internationally. It was officially opened on Wednesday by Jodie Ounsley, also known as Fury from BBC One show Gladiators."That was a lovely golden thread that connected the spectacle of Rome, and why people went to watch gladiators then, to our own fascination with competition and larger-than-life heroism," said Mr Edwards. Mr Edwards said his favourite piece was a gravestone to gladiator Urbicus."There's a little object at the end of the exhibition, which is really personal and intimate and it's a gravestone, which was made by the wife of a gladiator."His name was Urbicus and she tells his story. He was a kind-hearted gladiator. He spared one of his opponents in the arena who then stabbed him in the back."But it's a picture of him with his dog, with his pet, and this is a loving wife who has put a picture of this loved, gentle-hearted soul who found his way into the gladiators arena and his pet dog."And there's something, which is so human about that. It's just a little moment of connection with a human being across thousands of years of history and ultimately that's what museums like our own are all about, those human connections," he said. In Pictures: Lewis Capaldi returns to main stage at Glastonbury as he releases new single

The 28-year-old singer has appeared on the Pyramid Stage, for a surprise set this evening, two years after an emotional performance at Glastonbury when festival-goers lent their vocal support as he struggled to finish his set. He took a touring break in 2023 to deal with the impact of his Tourette's diagnosis and the symptoms that were exasperated the gruelling schedule associated with his meteoric rise to global fame. Earlier today, Lewis Capaldi released new single 'Survive' - a bold new anthem that underscores a challenging period in his career that led to a tough unifying moment as the Pyramid Stage crowd helped carry an emotional Capaldi over the finish line. 'Most nights I fear that I'm not enough, I've had my share of Monday mornings when I can't get up' sings Capaldi in a brutally honest track that addresses mental health challenges of self-doubt and despair, but comes out swinging in a chorus full of defiance - 'I swear to God I'll survive, if it kills me to, I'm gonna' get up and try, if it's the last thing I'll do'. 'Survive' also sees Lewis re-united with close collaborator Romans, who co-wrote his global hit 'Someone You Loved', that extraordinarily turned 10x Platinum earlier this year. The new track arrives off the back of a run of Scottish warm up shows in May that saw Lewis return to the stage as a guest of mental health charity CALM, in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week. With no pressure, and no level of expectation, the shows allowed Capaldi the space to gauge his comfort and emotional response before returning to the spotlight - a move which ended up proving nothing short of a triumph. Lewis' last release, the hit-stacked record Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, scored him his second UK number 1 album, creating another three heartbreaking UK number 1 singles, 'Pointless', 'Wish You The Best' and the Platinum-certified 'Forget Me', working with hitmakers including Max Martin (Taylor Swift, The Weeknd), Malay (Lorde, Frank Ocean), and longtime collaborator Phil Plested (James Bay, Bastille). April 2023 saw the global Netflix release of Lewis' compelling, raw and honest feature-length, Grammy-nominated music documentary 'Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now' , mostly filmed in Glasgow and West Lothian. Born in Dennistoun, Capaldi grew up in Whitburn from the age of four, he now lives in the West End of Glasgow and is renovating a farmhouse in East Kilbride. 1 . Holly Willoughby and husband seen at Glastonbury as she helps out festivalgoer

Glastonbury Festival attendees are in the company of former This Morning host Holly Willoughby and her husband Dan Baldwin this year, with the couple at Worthy Farm together Festivalgoers at Glastonbury are in the company of Holly Willoughby this year. The presenter and her husband Dan Baldwin have been spotted among the crowds at the festival today ahead of the first headliner performing tonight. Holly, 44, and TV producer Dan, 50, arrived at Worthy Farm in Somerset earlier. The couple, who have three children together, have joined the thousands of fans in attendance for the five day festival, which opened on Wednesday. ‌ Former This Morning host Holly was seen queuing for refreshments at Workers Charter Bar, which is located by the Pyramid Stage. One photo shows her later reaching the front of the queue for the bar alongside one of her pals. ‌ Holly, who was seen chatting to friends, appeared to be in good spirits and relaxed on site. Helping out a festivalgoer, she gave directions to someone at one point and was seen beside her husband Dan, whom she married in 2007, whilst standing by the bar in one photo taken earlier. She opted to wear a white dress and coordinated jacket for the festival today. Holly matched her brown boots with a matching hat and bag as part of her outfit. Her husband Dan instead sported a black t-shirt and dark shorts. Holly teased on Instagram this afternoon that she was at the festival. She shared a photo of herself sat at a table beside an iced bucket of wine. The post had been uploaded by rosé brand Lady A with the caption: "Glasto incoming." The former Dancing On Ice host's arrival comes ahead of the first headline act performing tonight. The 1975 will take to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury later this evening as the debut headliner for this year's festival weekend. ‌ It was revealed by the Mirror earlier that the band - which consists of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel - have "pulled out all the stops". A source told us: "Everyone was so blown away that Matty, Ross, George and Adam were headlining, but it's no surprise given how loved they are universally." The source added: "They've played Glastonbury before, but this is the boys at their very best and then some. They're one of the biggest bands in the world, and their tours sell out almost instantly, but to see them on the Pyramid Stage in the headline slot, nobody could have expected this." ‌ They went on to tease that fans should "expect a few surprises" when they take to the main stage. The source said: "Everyone behind the scenes has worked so hard to pull out all the stops - fans should expect a few surprises." The 1975 - known for songs like Chocolate - are the first of this year's three Pyramid Stage headline acts. Their set on Friday night will be followed by performances by Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
