A prisoner caught with two mobile phones on him while serving a sentence has been given a month's extra jail time.
Shane McDonagh (19) handed over the phones when he was stopped for a search in Dublin's Cloverhill prison, a court heard.
Judge David McHugh made the sentence consecutive to a four-year jail term he is already serving.

Blanchardstown District Court heard the incident happened on June 6 last year.
When told he would be searched by prison officers, he handed over the two phones and a charger
Judge McHugh asked the prosecuting garda how McDonagh was caught with two phones on the same day.
She replied that the accused was stopped at a security machine at reception, and when told he would be searched by prison officers, he handed over the two phones and a charger.
McDonagh was serving a four-year sentence with a release date in 2027.
The accused had already been punished in prison, where he had spent 40 days with no evening recreation, no phone calls and no shop, his solicitor Simon Fleming said.
'He came here today to face the punishment of the court,' he added, asking the judge for leniency.

Eric O'Driscoll (23) was caught with cannabis and MDMA Eric O'Driscoll was already serving a lengthy sentence A brother of well-known gangster 'Mr Flashy' has avoided more jail time for drug offences. Eric O'Driscoll (23) was given a six-month sentence, effective immediately, when he appeared before Blanchardstown District Court. O'Driscoll is the brother of Glen Ward (32), who was named by gardaí in a Cab case earlier this year as the crime boss known as Mr Flashy. Glen Ward and Eric O'Driscoll O'Driscoll is currently serving a five-year sentence imposed by the Special Criminal Court in April for firing a semi-automatic rifle from a house, while Ward is serving a five-and-a-half year sentence for possession of the same weapon. Earlier this week, before Blanchardstown court, O'Driscoll admitted possession of cannabis. Garda Dwayne O'Brien said gardaí obtained a warrant and searched a house at Deanstown Green in Finglas on April 28, 2023. The value of the cannabis was €20, Gda O'Brien told the court. O'Driscoll also admitted possession of MDMA and having the drug for sale or supply, at Ratoath Avenue in Finglas on November 26, 2020. The value of the MDMA was €264. The court heard that O'Driscoll had 11 previous convictions. Defence lawyer Ciaran MacLoughlin said O'Driscoll was serving a lengthy sentence and was not due for release until February 2028. Uninsured driver says he was delivering drugs after building up €12,000 debt

Ciaran McDonnell (58) had a number of other health difficulties, and was no longer able to drive, his lawyer said An uninsured driver caught with €3,000 of alprazolam tablets during a garda Covid-19 checkpoint was delivering them after he built up a €12,000 drug debt, a court heard. Ciaran McDonnell (58) had diabetes and a number of other health difficulties, and was no longer able to drive, his lawyer said. Judge David McHugh fined McDonnell €400, banned him from driving for six years and imposed an 11-month sentence that he suspended for two years. The defendant, with an address at Verschoyle Park, Saggart Abbey in Tallaght, admitted uninsured driving and possession of alprazolam for the purposes of sale or supply. Garda Thomas Finnerty told Blanchardstown District Court that he was conducting a Covid-19 checkpoint on October 23, 2020, when he stopped McDonnell driving a Nissan Qashqai on the N7 outside the Blackchurch Inn in Rathcoole. Defence solicitor said the father of four had serious health issues at present Gda Finnerty said the insurance disc on the car looked false, and McDonnell admitted he had no insurance. Gda Finnerty said that about €3,000 of alprazolam tablets was found in the car. The court heard that the defendant had 20 previous convictions, including three previous for uninsured driving. Defence solicitor Philip Denieffe said his client, a father of four adult children, had serious health issues at present, was in a wheelchair and was unable to drive a car again. Mr Denieffe added that his client had been a heavy user of cocaine in the past. Gda Finnerty said McDonnell co-operated fully with gardaí, and told him that he had a €12,000 drug debt and was delivering the alprazolam to Newbridge to try and pay off some of the debt. Mr Denieffe said McDonnell wished to apologise to the court, and his client accepted he had an appalling road-traffic history. Imposing a suspended sentence on McDonnell, Judge McHugh said he was far from impressed with the defendant's behaviour.
