I wanted a lowkey wedding so didn't bother with a dress or cake, trolls say a broke uni party would look better

Scroll down for a breakdown on the cost of a wedding in 2025 BUDGET BRIDE I wanted a lowkey wedding so didn't bother with a dress or cake, trolls say a broke uni party would look better A COUPLE who opted for a budget-friendly wedding shared the details of their savvy day. However, not everyone was a fan of the scrimping and saving, with some people comparing the occasion to a "broke uni party". Advertisement 2 TikTok user Amie shared an insight into the various ways she and her husband saved on their wedding day Credit: tiktok/@amie_barron In a TikTok video that amassed over 200,000 views, Amie Barron (@amie_barron) broke down the steps she and her groom took to pinch pennies. With the average wedding costing £200,500, the pair made a conscious effort to cut down on various aspects. Amie joked that some of the extreme measures "would put people in a coma". Veering from tradition The bride decided to opt out of the wedding dress tradition, instead choosing a comfy everyday outfit. Advertisement "We didn't dress up. We wore flannels, jeans, and boots," she said, sharing a picture with her husband from the big day. Amie and her bridal party also did their own hair and make up for the occasion. And the TikToker joked that she also took her shoes off "as soon as I said 'I do'." While the couple still forked out for a venue for the day, Amie explained that they saved by holding the ceremony and reception in the same room. Advertisement And the venue in question was the party room at their local library. For the food, the couple decided to skip out on the "fancy meal and fancy cake". I was fuming when I found out the reason my family hadn't RSVP-ed to my wedding - now they're uninvited Amie shared an image of the simple cake they opted for instead, which featured a simple Mr. & Mrs. topper, showing the couple's love for video games and reading. And this passion for gaming also played a major part in the day as the couple went home early to play Fortnite. Advertisement They did however enjoy some dancing to a playlist Amie made in advance, skipping out on the band or DJ debate. "We didn't want anything big or fancy," she explained, revealing the day went perfectly. However, TikTok users were not sold on the budget-friendly approach. They are captured in footage glorying in the Ukrainian strike which Putin's air defences failed to prevent. The video was posted to a track Crimson Dawn by singer Endshpil, a Russian rapper. Dasha and Karina were also with a man - but it was unclear if he had been hauled to the police as well. Advertisement A police "wanted" notice only specified the two women. 'During Internet monitoring, a publication was found showing two girls filming a video against the backdrop of a fire in Sochi,' a police statement said before the influencers were identified. It added: "The police have initiated an investigation, measures are being taken to identify the girls, and their actions will be legally assessed." Later it was confirmed the duo had been detained, and there were calls from pro-war outlets for them to issue a public apology over the stunt close to Sochi airport. Advertisement Kremlin moral guardian Yekaterina Mizulina, 40, head of Russia's Safe Internet League, said: 'Young people are filming content against the backdrop of drones flying into Sochi at night. But the real reason for their arrest is the potential glamourising of a Ukrainian strike in Russia's largest resort. Advertisement Moscow takes an increasingly aggressive, extreme stance against social media stunts seen as highlighting Ukraine's successes in the war. A Ukrainian outlet Pravda Gerashchenko mocked: 'Russian zoomers are happy about the burning oil depot in [Sochi] - a new location for selfies. 'Ukrainian defence forces will definitely try to create as many such locations as possible.' The song 'conveys a search for direction, belonging and hope through music and the hip-hop community,' said one source. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin urged residents of the Korabel district to evacuate, citing complications with logistics and infrastructure. He wrote on Telegram: "As a result of the enemy airstrike, logistics have been complicated. "Because of this, it will be difficult to deliver food and other things for the time being." Advertisement Kherson Oblast, which is just near the Russian-occupied Crimean region, is frequently targeted by the Russians. Kyiv sought revenge by launching a massive drone attack targeting Russia's main resort city of Sochi, where Putin is said to be rebuilding one of his palaces. More than 120 firefighters were trying to extinguish a blaze at an oil depot that was sparked by the drone attack, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said.
