Lionel Messi is consoled by Ousmane Dembele and other former team-mates after Inter Miami crash out of the Club World Cup in PSG thrashing
Messi — who played alongside Dembele at Barcelona between 2017 and 2021 — played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as his Miami side were outclassed by the reigning European champions.
Meanwhile, Dembele entered the action as a 62nd-minute substitute, with his side already four goals ahead following a one-sided first half.
Messi looked visibly dejected at times during Sunday's knockout game, but his spirits appeared to be lifted by old pals in the tunnel.
PSG boss Luis Enrique — who won nine trophies as Messi's manager at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017 — brought a smile to the 38-year-old's face during a friendly exchange, which included him stroking the player's hair.
Messi then shook hands with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Presnel Kimpembe — who were among his team-mates at PSG during his two seasons in Paris.

Later, Messi was seen walking arm in arm with Dembele, before the pair swapped shirts.
Dembele then took to Instagram to share a photo of himself proudly posing with the Miami captain's jersey, next to Messi, who was wearing the France winger's PSG top.
'It's so good to see you again,' Dembele wrote as his caption. '@leomessi, the best of all time… I hope you continue making history with him @intermiamicf as in this Club World Cup.'
Although Miami are now out of the Club World Cup, they had exceeded many people's expectations by progressing beyond the group phase.
Messi and Co qualified from Group A without losing. They drew 0-0 with Al Ahly before beating Porto 2-1. Miami then played out a 2-2 draw with Palmeiras.
PSG will now face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals after the German champions beat Flamengo 4-2.

Arne Slot in ‘absolute shock' as he pays tribute to Diogo Jota: ‘A loved one to all of us'
Arne Slot said that Diogo Jota was loved by everyone at Liverpool and there is a sense of 'absolute shock' at the death of the forward. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were killed in a car accident in Spain and Slot said it was even more 'heartbreaking' because this was shaping up as a dream summer for the 28-year-old. The former Wolves and Porto attacker had helped Liverpool win the Premier League and Portugal the Nations League before getting married to his boyhood sweetheart, Rute. Head coach Slot said he would never forget Jota as he mourned a unique and special person who had everything he wanted in a Liverpool footballer. In his tribute, Slot said: 'For us as a club, the sense of shock is absolute. Diogo was not just our player. He was a loved one to all of us. He was a teammate, a colleague, a workmate and in all of those roles he was very special. 'I could say so much about what he brought to our team but the truth is everyone who watched Diogo play could see it. Hard work, desire, commitment, great quality, goals. The essence of what a Liverpool player should be. 'There were also the parts that not everyone got to see. The person who never sought popularity but found it anyway. Not a friend to two people, a friend to everyone. Someone who made others feel good about themselves just by being with them. A person who cared deeply for his family. 'The last time we spoke, I congratulated Diogo on winning the Nations League and wished him luck for his forthcoming wedding. In many ways, it was a dream summer for Diogo and his family, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that it should end like this.' Slot joined Liverpool last summer and said he soon realised that Jota was a favourite of the Anfield crowd. He added: 'When I first came to the club, one of the first songs I got to know was the one that our fans sing for Diogo. I had not worked with him previously but I knew straight away that if the Liverpool supporters, who have seen so many great players over the years, had such a unique chant for Diogo, he must have special qualities. 'That we have lost those qualities in such terrible circumstances is something we have not yet come to terms with. For this reason, we need everyone at the club to stand together and to be there for one another. We owe this to Diogo, to Andre Silva, to their wider family and to ourselves. 'My condolences go to Diogo's wife, Rute, their three beautiful children and to the parents of Diogo and Andre Silva. 'When the time is right, we will celebrate Diogo Jota, we will remember his goals and we will sing his song. For the time being, we will remember him as a unique human being and mourn his loss. He will never be forgotten. His name is Diogo.' Slot admitted he was struggling to process his own grief and said his thoughts were with Jota's family. 'What to say?' he asked. 'What can anyone say at a time like this when the shock and the pain is so incredibly raw? I wish I had the words but I know I do not. 'All I have are feelings that I know so many people will share about a person and a player we loved dearly and a family we care so much about. 'My first thoughts are not those of a football manager. They are of a father, a son, a brother and an uncle and they belong to the family of Diogo and Andre Silva who have experienced such an unimaginable loss. 'My message to them is very clear – you will never walk alone. The players, the staff, the supporters of Liverpool Football Club are all with you and from what I have seen today, the same can be said of the wider family of football. 'This is not solely a response to tragedy. It is also a reaction to the goodness of the people involved and the respect that so many have for the boys as individuals and for the family as a whole.'

The Bayern Munich midfielder's curled effort from distance in the first half was enough to send Italy top of the group after one game and leave Belgium in trouble already in what is expected to be a three-way battle for second place behind Spain. Update: Date: 2025-07-03T17:55:20.000Z Title: Early team news: Content: Spain's two-time Ballon D'Or winner Aitana Bonmati rejoined her teammates after being released from hospital after receiving treatment for viral meningitis and while she is harbouring hopes of playing in this tournament, her health must come first and it seems unlikely but not out of the question that she will feature tonight. 'With Aitana back, the entire group is now at their base camp in Lausanne, ready to take on the European dream,' said the Spanish Football Federation following her release from hospital. In her absence this evening, Vicky Lopez is expected to start in midfield alongside Alexia Putellas and Patri Guijarro. Spain are without Real Madrid midfielder Tere Abelleira and Arsenal defender Laia Codina, who are absent from this tournament through injury, while veterans Jenni Hermoso and Ivana Andrés were not picked for the squad. Carolina Mendes will be a conspicuous abentee for Portugal, having been ruled out of the tournament through injury. Barcelona midfielder Kika Nazareth has been included in Portugal's squad despite only returning to training last month after being sidelined with an ankle injury since March. There are also concerns over the fitness of Benfica left-back Lúcia Alves and Gotham winger Jéssica Silva. Everton goalkeeper Ines Pereira is the sole WSL representative in the Portugal squad. Update: Date: 2025-07-03T17:54:59.000Z Title: Group B: Spain v Portugal Content: On a desperately sad and traumatic day for Portuguese football, when the heartbreaking news of the death of Diogo Jota alongside his younger brother Andre Felipe in a road traffic accident was announced, it is difficult to imagine what must be going through the minds of the players representing the nation's women's team as they prepare to face Spain in Bern tonight. A universally popular and admired player renowned for his humility and sunny disposition, Jota's passing has prompted an understandable outpouring of shock and sadness throughout and beyond the football family and the players of Spain will also be struggling to process their sadness at this tragedy of a son, a young father, a brother, a new husband and a very fine footballer lost. The weather forecast in Switzerland's capital city tonight is for bright sunshine but it is a certainty that this match will be played under a very dark cloud. There will, of course, be a tribute to Jota and his brother ahead of tonight's match. 'Uefa announces that a moment of silence will be observed at all of today's and tomorrow's Women's Euro 2025 matches in memory of Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva who tragically passed away today,' said European football's governing body earlier today.
