The Chicago Sky currently own a 3-10 record during the 2025 WNBA season. This places them 11th in the league standings and fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Second-year center Kamilla Cardoso, who made the All-Rookie team in 2024, has put together another strong campaign this season. She is second on the Sky in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Unfortunately, Cardoso will be temporarily leaving the Sky as she plays for her home country Brazil in the Americup Tournament in late June and early July. She will depart after Tuesday evening's contest against the Los Angeles Sparks.

First-year head coach Tyler Marsh will be forced to adjust in Cardoso's absence by either moving 2024 WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese to center or inserting 11-year veteran Elizabeth Williams in the starting lineup.

Fortunately, either of these moves will only be temporary, as Marsh provided an update before Tuesday's game about when Chicago expects Cardoso to be back after Americup.
"Marsh expects Cardoso to return for the Lynx game on 7/6. #Skytown," Chicago State of Mind Sports reported.
This update means that Cardoso should only miss two WNBA games, which will be back-to-back road contests against the 7-6 Golden State Valkyries and 4-10 Sparks.
Unfortunately, the Sparks have a stellar duo of post players in Dearica Hamby, who is averaging 16.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 2025, and Azurá Stevens, who is contributing 13.4 points and 8.8 boards per contest.

In Cardoso's absence, Elizabeth Williams could see an increase from her 17.2 minutes per game (via Pro Basketball Reference). She is fresh off a 16-point, 5-rebound performance against the Atlanta Dream, both of which were season bests.

Lonzo Ball-Isaac Okoro trade grades: Who won the Bulls and Cavaliers deal?

The Lonzo Ball era in Chicago is officially over. So is Isaac Okoro's stint as a Cleveland Cavalier. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Chicago Bulls swapped the oft-injured point guard for the 24-year-old small forward on Saturday during the short window between the end of the NBA Draft and the opening of free agency on Monday. Ball's four years in Chicago saw him suit up for just 70 games total while averaging about 10 points and 4.2 assists per game after signing a four-year, $85 million contract extension in 2021. Nagging knee injuries requiring multiple procedures derailed the veteran for two full seasons before he was able to return in January 2025. Okoro, meanwhile, played a career-low 19.1 minutes per game last season while posting 61. points and 2.4 rebounds per game. The details Bulls get: SF Isaac Okoro Cavaliers get: PG Lonzo Ball Chicago Bulls Ball signed a two-year, $20 million extension in February 2025, then was shut down for the season in March with a wrist injury he said would not require surgery. At that point it became clear the Bulls couldn't rely on Ball even after his knee fully recovered. Even before the draft, reports suggested Chicago was looking to move either Ball or guard Coby White. Despite drafting forward Noa Essengue and center Rocco Zikarsky, Chicago still went ahead with moving a point guard — a position they'll now need to address in free agency. In Okoro, the Bulls continue adding depth at forward that should give their rookies a little more room to develop. Okoro is due $21 million over the next two years, meaning the salaries swapped between the two teams are rather negligible. That might explain what helped the two Central Division rivals complete the deal. Ultimately, Chicago had to move on from Ball and getting anything in return counts as a win. Grade: A- Cleveland Cavaliers After drafting two guards in the second round this week in Tyrese Proctor and Saliou Niang (a likely draft-and-stash), Cleveland takes a low-risk flier on Ball to help get some veteran experience. If he's healthy, this could be a great depth addition behind Darius Garland. If not, or if Ball simply doesn't work out for basketball reasons, the Cavs could decline Ball's $10 million club option after this year and move on. This is a team that believes it can contend in the Eastern Conference — especially after Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum suffered Achilles injuries expected to keep them out all year. It's easy to forget Ball is still just 27 years old, but there is reason for optimism here if he can be used in a limited role while maintaining his health. Cleveland isn't looking to his a home run here nor does it need to. That makes this a solid add that's easy to undo after the season if needed. Grade: B

WNBA Makes Napheesa Collier Announcement Amid Injury Concerns

WNBA Makes Napheesa Collier Announcement Amid Injury Concerns originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the last two games, the defending Western Conference champion Minnesota Lynx looked uneven and unsettled, following up a win over the Sparks at home with an unsightly loss to the Mystics, a game in which the Lynx scored only 64 points--their lowest total of the season, 19.6 points below their average production. Advertisement But they are excused for that. After all, they were playing without star forward Napheesa Collier, the front-runner for WNBA MVP as the league passes the one-third point of the 2025 season. On Friday against the Dream in Atlanta, Collier was still questionable with the back injury that kept her out for two games. But she not only played, she delivered a reminder on her MVP status in a thrilling 96-92 win to move Minnesota to 13-2 on the season. Collier scored 26 points, with seven rebounds and six assists, overcoming the injuryand earning the nightly nod from the league. Collier earned one of the league's "Top Performer" honors as the WNBA's Twitter/X account announced on Friday. Minnesota nearly coughed up the game but had to withstand a late Dream rally that forced overtime, despite a 17-point Lynx lead in the first half. The game was an odd one, as thunderstorms in Georgia caused the lights at the Gateway Center Arena to go out briefly, resulting in an eight-minute delay. Advertisement The Lynx's Kayla McBride scored 18 points, including the final four points of the game at the free-throw line. Collier played more than 40 minutes in the game, something of a concern for a player coping with back problems. After the win, Collier was asked about how she plans to deal with the back problem over the remainder of the season. "I think just making sure I'm activating before the games and practices, making sure that my core is tight," she said. "That's always the thing with back injuries, making sure you have a tight core. So, doing a lot of ab works, getting ready for summer.' This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 28, 2025, where it first appeared.
