Giants' Safety Appears in NFL Position Rankings

Giants' Safety Appears in NFL Position Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Giants invested a ton in free agent safety Jevon Holland this offseason. After four solid seasons in Miami, Holland inked a three-year, $45.3 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed back in mid-March. Advertisement Holland was drafted with the No. 36 overall pick in 2021 and made a quick impression as a rookie. He earned All-Rookie honors and All-Pro honors from PFF. He didn't appear in ESPN's top 10 list of the best safeties, but he did earn an honorable mention. The list was compiled by Jeremy Fowler, who surveyed NFL executives, coaches and scouts. One of those executives cited a recent "regression" for why he might've missed the list. "I still love the skill set, but he drastically regressed last year, which was shocking to see from a young player in a contract year." -- NFL personnel director Advertisement But Holland's regression was slight last season. He appeared in 15 games and posted 62 tackles with 42 solo and two for loss. He added a sack and two QB hits. He also registered a forced fumble. The strength of his game was and still is "versatility." "He has that special buzzword -- versatility -- and can play deep safety and man-to-man out of the slot," ESPN's Cameron Wolfe wrote when Holland was drafted in 2021. "In fact, Holland played 64% of his coverage snaps in the slot at Oregon. Holland is a playmaker with nine interceptions over two seasons, which should help the Dolphins be better covering sideline-to-sideline and tackling speedy receivers." This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

Like Tucker Kraft, Packers OT Zach Tom still hunting for league-wide recognition entering 2025

Much like Tucker Kraft, who had a breakout 2024 season but wasn't even an honorable mention in ESPN's rankings of tight ends entering 2025, Green Bay Packers right tackle Zach Tom is still hunting league-wide recognition at his position group. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler collected votes of coaches, executives and scouts to rank players at each position group, and Tom -- like Kraft -- received votes within the top 10 of offensive tackles but didn't get enough to be ranked or qualify as an honorable mention. To be fair, the pool of possible selections at offensive tackle is deeper than at tight end, and the position group has several veteran players entrenched as top players. Gaining recognition across the NFL takes time, especially at a premium position, and it shouldn't be surprising that Tom isn't yet universally considered one of the league's top 16 offensive tackles. Among the honorable mentions was Jake Matthews, Ronnie Staley, Kolton Miller and Taylor Decker. One could easily argue that Tom played a better season than all four in 2024, but like Pro Bowl voting, recognition often lags behind by at least a year. Last season, Tom ended the regular season as the fourth-highest graded offensive tackle at Pro Football Focus. He earned an elite run-blocking grade while allowing only three sacks and 24 total pressures across 562 pass-blocking snaps. More impressively, Tom has improved significantly over each of his three NFL seasons. A pleasant surprise as a fill-in player during his rookie season in 2022, Tom emerged as a solid starting right tackle in 2023 and then blossomed as a top-end player at right tackle in 2024. While he wasn't a Pro Bowler, Tom received All-Pro votes at right tackle last season. Rather incredibly, Tom produced the season after missing most of the offseason while recovering from a torn pectoral muscle. The next step for Tom? Signing a big, new deal with the Packers this summer, and then building on his first season as a top player. Truly great players can consistently create great seasons, so Tom must prove his 2024 season was a sustainable peak of performance. If he can, Tom will almost certainly find himself within the top 10 of Fowler's list by this time next year.

Lamar Jackson lands behind Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow in ESPN's QB rankings

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson lands behind Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow in ESPN's 2025 QB Rankings Life is all about perspective, and depending on your outlook, Lamar Jackson is either the most dynamic quarterback in the NFL or an elite, yet underachieving player who has won multiple MVP awards but has yet to reach a Super Bowl. Training camps are just hours away from opening up, and that means the finale of positional rankings for different platforms covering the NFL. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler does a remarkable job of polling coaches, executives, and scouts each summer, gathering insight and opinions on the top ten players at every position. Baltimore was well represented at multiple positions, including quarterback, where Jackson made the list but landed behind several players deemed more accomplished. Jackson lands behind Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow, coming in at No. 4 for the second straight summer. "A 10-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio [10.3], winning percentage is insane [74.4%] and he's a leading rusher on any team he's on," a veteran NFL coach said. "He's one of a kind." "Best space runner in the NFL, and he's such a good passer now," an NFL defensive coordinator said. "He probably doesn't get enough credit for how he's improved there." Last season, Jackson led the NFL in passer rating (119.6) while becoming the first quarterback in league history with at least 4,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards after he posted 4,172 yards through the air and 915 yards on the ground. Teaming with Derrick Henry and surrounded by dynamic skill position players, the Ravens had a historic 2024 season offensively, becoming the first in NFL history to achieve both 40 passing and 20 rushing touchdowns, along with 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards.
